Anti-theft Controller problems of the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

Six problems related to anti-theft controller have been reported for the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2014

When trying to start the anti-theft light comes on and blinks you must wait 10 mins to restart and sometimes the vehicle will start or you have to wait the recycle till again. Gm did a recall on the key itself to add a hole in the key for the weight situation, but did not help the ignition problem of starting this vehicle. My question is why hasn't this problem been address yet? I have several complaints on this problem.

2 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

The contact owns a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph over a bump, the security warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where a private mechanic reset the security system but the failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 14v400000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed for the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 210,000.

3 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

For unknown reasons the passlock system fails and the car will either not start or while driving it will shut off at any time cutting power to the power brakes and steering. Causing a possible loss of control.

4 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2007

I put the key in the ignition and the car does not start followed by the word security flashing on the dashboard car will not start. I have to wait about 15 mins and hope it won't do it again. I have read up online and seems this is a common occurrence related to the passlock system on Oldsmobile cars.

5 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2007

The passlock feature. Has left me and several, several unhappy Alero owners stranded. This is a very bad and expensive idea and I have been without the car now for 2 months. I hate this car. I can not believe this has not been a recalled issue.

6 Anti-theft Controller problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2000

Consumer states that the securty pass-lok system became defective and would not allow the vehicle to start.
