Axle Assembly problems of the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

Five problems related to axle assembly have been reported for the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2004

While driving 60 to 70 mph rear passenger side wheel separated from the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, and technician determined that rear axle broke.

2 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

Bad vibration at highway speeds. Had wheels aligned,tires balanced, tie rods ,both front axles, both front bearings, front disc brakes(rotors and pads), both front struts replaced. Vibration at times gets bad enough to lose control. None of the above solutions fixed the problem.

3 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2000

There was noise while driving coming from transmission. Dealer replaced with rem transmission. Consumer is still having the same problem and leakage. The vehicle has torq axis hydralic transmission motor mount defect. Vehicle makes noise due to transaxle faiure. . Brakes making noise due to rotors failure.

4 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/04/1999

The axle assembly and boots have been replaced continually due to breakage which caused leakage.

5 Axle Assembly problem

When making a right turn onto a gravel road steering/ wheels locked up, and the left front wheel broke, facing outward. Dealer said axle/ spindle and strut were broken.
