I purchased my 2003 Oldsmobile Alero from an individual. I have had problems with the blinkers ever since. Some days they will work off and on, some days not at all. From what I have read this is a common problem in these types of vehicles. This issue puts me and my children in danger. For the past year or so, it's been difficult to get the vehicle started and out of park. I first went to the gm website when the June 2014 recall for 2003my Alero started and it said the vehicle was not recalled. I read a subsequent story that the gm website recalls. Gm. Com wasn't accurately displaying recalls where no parts are available. Went to the site after the repairs this past weekend and it said my car was recalled. After calling the support number and having them look up the VIN, they didn't see my car was recalled in their system although the call center tech stated the problem sounds similar to existing issues. He provided a gm sr # and requested my local dealership to follow up, but it would be considered a diagnosis outside of recall. Unsure based on differing reports from gm on the vehicle being safe or not.
When traveling between 25mph and 50mph the vehicle will turn off and will take up to 10 minutes to start. This occurs weekly, I received a recall call noticed stating that it was the key fob and that key covers were installed on 10-09-2014. This did not remedy the vehicle shut down and the number of incidents have increased.
The blinkers stopped working, but realized there was a short with the hazard lights as soon as I would push the hazard lights in a little the blinkers would start working. Recently pushing the hazard lights does not make the blinker blink, nor does it cause the hazard lights to work anymore. Was told by mechanic this is a common problem with the 2003 Alero.
The odometer faded out. Came back on when I knocked on the dash. This worked 2 or 3 times. Now no odometer. The other dash lights are working fine. Just the odometer.
I was driving down the road when the security light came on and stayed on. About one minute later, the car died while I was driving approx. 50 mph. Thank goodness there was no traffic and I was able to pull over off the road. The car did start back up this time. The passlock system has engaged before and we have followed the suggestions we found online and gotten it to start back up. . . I just don't think I should have to follow some sort of ritual to get my car to start; not to mention, the safety issue of having a car die in while going down the road at 50 mph.

I have a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero that I bought used with 48,000 miles. And I have a similar problem as many other people. Sometimes when I go to put turn signal on, it won't work. This happens at random times with no notice. I often get honked at for not using my turn signal, when I have every intention of doing so, they just won't work. Also, sometimes when I start my car, the dials do not come on automatically. They all remain on zero. It has even taken up to 5 minutes for my communication system to register that I have started the car. Also, at times my air conditioner will just stop blowing. It comes back on in a few minutes, but it will come on and go off several times. Then it will finally remain on. All these things happen in conjunction with each other but I can't be able to locate the cause of the problems. I don't even know if they are related, I just know they all happen at the same time.
Car dash lights, cd player, and ac unit do not turn on when car starts. This usually occurs after the car has been driven and is warm. After leaving the car for approximately 15 minutes and then starting the car again that is when the problem usually occurs. The delay for the starting of the dash and accessories is anywhere from 5 seconds to 1 minute.
This all started estimated in April 2010. When the security light comes on I know it will not start the next time I get in it. It could not start once or 3 times. It very scary sitting in my car with the key turned on for 10 minutes. Then I can turn it off and turn back on and it will start. I have had it looked at and he put a new fuel pump on it, then it did it again and the next time he firxed it by reseting the computer but it did last. I talked to other people and they say they have the same problem. The way I found out how to fix was I called a tow truck and he told me what to do. Have you had any compaints like this?.
