The lower intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced in my car 2002 Alero with 67,500 miles, come to find out gm knows about this and it is a common replacement, design flaw with gm vehicles even the repair shops have knowledge about this. Is there a r-emarket rebate for this problem. It will vcost me about 700 to fix the problem.

The intake manifold gasket is failing, introducing coolant to engine oil. This problem is a result of a poor design. General motors has been aware of the problem for years. However, gm currently does not have a recall on these vehicles. While the part itself isn't costly, the labor to repair it is very intensive, and has been quoted around $800. Recalls should be mandated in all cases of incompetence, not solely when it affects public safety!.

Car began to overheat two days ago. Intake manifold gasket replaced a year ago. Dealership stated the intake manifold needs to be replaced again. We also found out that we may have a blown head gasket and possibly a cracked engine--which means a new motor. Car has 80,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of. We are devastated as this is our daughter's car and she is about to be a freshman in college. The car broke down on her while traveling down an interstate-at night.

My lower intake manifold is leaking just as is popular on these types of engines. Also my turn signal is working off and on. I have sent letters to gm with no response or success.

I have a 2004 Alero GLS with 43,200 miles on it. At 42,500 the coolant light came on so I checked and the overflow tank was empty. When I went for an oil change they filled it and 2 days later it was empty again. There was no coolant on the ground or in the engine compartment anywhere. I brought it to the dealer who filled it again and 2 days later it was empty. Since this started a loud tapping sound started when the car is cold first thing in the morning and when the car heats up it stops. It doesn't happen again until the next day. I brought it back again to the dealer and after they checked it out they told me that it was the intake manifold gasket that was leaking and needs replacing. After much research I find that this is a known problem. Even talking to other mechanics who work for other repair shops tell me it is a know fact that this engine has a problem with intake gaskets. The leak just started out of nowhere and it needs to be fixed. I cannot afford to fix it, nor do I feel it is my responsibility to pay for it.

1999 olds Alero 70,000 miles and will have to spend over 700 replacing the intake manifold gasket. If we do not repair, will lose engine at over 2500 expense. We have talked to shops and read internet issues predominant on this same issue. Gm should do a recall on this vehicle due to so many complaints on this issue.
: the contact stated coolant is leaking out at the intake manifold gasket causing the engine to overheat. The dealership determined the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. The manufacturer has been alerted.

My engine coolant, on my 2001 olds Alero, has been going down for the last 18 months. I have refilled the coolant container 3 times. When I checked it again about 1 week ago there was gel like substance in the coolant. I checked with several mechanics, all of whom said my intake manifold gaskets are leaking and oil is getting into the engine coolant, that I need to have the gaskets replaced and the engine flushed which would cost me $900. I then found out generals motors has known about this problem for at least 2 years because they replaced the defective part in new cars beginning in 2004. Canada has a class action law suit against general motors for this same problem. So far gm has done nothing about fixing my car.
In March 2006 at 73,277 miles I had to have the intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets & water pump assembly replaced due to a constant antifreeze leak. Then in April 2007 at 87,452 miles had to have the head gasket replaced due to the same problem. Was told by the mechanic this was a common problem & gm even changed the intake manifold so the one I had put on in 2007 was different than the one in 2006 because they have had so many problems. Seemed like they should be reimbursing people & having a recall because they obviously knew about the problem.
1999 olds. Alero 3400 GLS. There is a problem with the manifold gasket many people have this problem I think it should be looked into for a safety recall.
Leaking intake manifold gasket. Coolant and oil mixing together and loosing both. Have to keep refilling oil and water tank. Had this problem fixed at a cost of over $810. It should have been a recall issue back in March 2003 when Oldsmobile was aware of it.
After experiencing loss of coolant in my 2000 Oldsmobile Alero, I was informed that I needed a new intake manifold gasket (it was leaking) which would cost almost $700 to fix. Although my vehicle is no longer under warranty, I feel that a leaking intake manifold is a premature repair for a vehicle only 5 years old and only 51000 mi. I have done some searching and know that I am not the only gm owner with this problem. This problem is obviously a manufacturer defect not to mention a potentially dangerous one. Any longer and I would have had a ruined engine that could have caught fire or stalled on the highway. Gm needs to take responsibility for this problem.
2003 Alero ignition shorted causing consumer not be able to start vehicle, also found a leak in intake manifold gasket. The passlock sensor in the ignition cylinder shorted and as a result the vehicle would not start. The intake gaskets and oil drive o-ring leaked. The dealer replaced the lower intake manifold gasket, rocker cover gaskets and oil pump driveshaft cover seal. The air bag cover warped. The top of the dash was wrinkled and the instrument panel pan was peeling from it's backing. The dealer replaced the instrument panel assembly and transferred all components.
2001 Alero (2 dr. Coupe) I have been on several sites and am finding many Alero owners having the same problems that I have encountered over the last couple of years. Fuel pump, wheel hub assemblies, intake manifold gaskets, power window failure(grinding/breaking clips/regulators), serv engine and traction control lights constantly on, electrical problems, brake problems etc. It is my belief that olds knew they weren't making this car anymore, and sent a sub-par product out into the market "hoping" to get away with as few recalls as possible. I have numerous complaints filed with olds and general motors. General motors has gone way out and offered me a $500. 00 certificate towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Give me one reason I should go through another nightmare like this one. Recalls have never been issued on any of these complaints because it would probably cost millions of dollars for them to fix the problems. I constantly wait to see if any class action suits involving these vehicles occurs as I will be one of the first to jump in. What's the saying. . . "if it looks like dog crap and smells like dog crap don't step in it, it's probably dog crap". There's a defined problem with these vehicles and gm should be taking responsibility for them.
2000 Oldsmobile Alero. Diagnosed with a leaking lower intake manifold gasket at 55,000 miles (~ $800 repair). Contacted Oldsmobile for cost assistance because this is such a common problem. They told me that this was a case of negligence on my part. Considering discussing with a lawyer due to the high volume of similar problems on this engine type.
Defective intake manifold gasket discovered on 4/8/05. Coolant leak to the outside of vehicle.
Our 2001 Alero had the lower manifold gasket fail at 64000 miles, the gasket was replaced at a cost of $562. 00. The shop tells me that this is a very common problem with this engine. There were three 3400's in the shop the same day mine was repaired.
Loss of antifreeze on a gm v6 engine is due to the failure of an intake manifold gasket. Consumer took the vehicle to a service department and had the problem fixed. It happens on the same vehicle every 60,000 miles. Engine failure is a safety concern.
Lower intake gasket leaking coolant. Found during routine maintenance.
The intake gasket of the consumer's 2001 Oldsmobile Alero leaked antifreeze. The intake manifold was designed improperly. The gasket leaked anti freeze into the oil, oil senders and the coils.
2001 Oldsmobile Alero intake manifold problem. The consumer had discovered a coolant leak. The consumer stated gm issued an improved gasket to avoid future problems with the engine. The consumer believed it gm was aware of the problem why did the expense have to fall on the consumer. The power steering was replaced.
The coolant in my Alero started leaking and there was no heat in the interior. It was determined that my intake manifold gasket was deteriorated. The part was replaced and was not kept.
While driving consumer turned on the heat and the defogger, and both failed to come on properly. Consumer smelled an odor coming from the vents. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic determined that the intake manifold was leaking and needed to be replaced. . . .
Discovered during a vehicle inspection that oil was leaking around the upper part of the engine. . . Near the head and intake manifold area. Plus have been smelling burning oil through the ventilation system. . . Occasionally. At the time, vehicle was no longer under manufacture warranty. . . Contact manufacture for assistance, but assistance was denied.
Engine coolant leak onto engine block and transmission housing. Intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. Oldsmobile dealership stated that this was a common problem with the 3400 v6 engine.
Intake manifold leaking on 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. Oil system is contaminated, and engine is running poorly, and will be permanently damaged if not repaired soon. There is a TSB out to replace the defective design. I had the vehicle in to a gm service department for diagnosis , and then discussed issue with gm customer service. They will not pay for complete repair because it is out of warranty even though the gasket design is defective.
While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled. Dealership informed the consumer that problem was pertained to intake manifold failure. The problem had not been resolved.

2000 Alero GLS with the 3. 4 l v-6 had to have the intake manifold gasket replaced due to failure and coolant leaking. The car had 38,000 miles on it at the time of the failure. This is the third gm vehicle I have seen that had this problem. A 2000 malibu with the 3. 4 l and a 2000 bonneville with the 3. 8l. All of these cars had the new dexcool coolant in them.
My car's coolant light came on the first time about 2 weeks ago. At that time I replaced the coolant that was missing, only to have the light come on again 2 days later. I again replaced the coolant. I could not find any visible leaks under the car. I was driving to the mechanic when my check engine light came on, and the check coolant light came on. The cars tempature gauge was topped out. I had to pull over to the side of a major freeway and call for help. After 2 hours of waiting for a tow truck. The mechanic tells me that the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets need replaced. Also, the coolant had leaked into my engine and mixed with the oil causing the engine to miss. I had to have the gaskets replaced with a new version. And also have the engine flushed, an oil change and a coolant flush as well as a coolant change. All of this costing well over $700. Apparently, gm has issued a service bulletin related to this issue but has failed to issue a recall on that particular part. My safety should be of some concern to this car manufactuer to say the least!.
A leak in the intake manifold that is allowing coolant and oil to leak into the engine. It costs between $600 - $800 to repair and this is a faulty part in a majority of the gm vehicles. There was a service bulletin dated March 2003 that entails the exact details of the problem, yet gm has not offered its customers any remedies to the problem such as paying for the repair. I have maintained this vehicle with all required service work. I want gm to pay for the repair.
Leaking intake manifold gasket.
1999 Alero having problems with manifold leaking oil and failed fuel injectors. The front spring had broken suddenly as the vehicle was in motion. The manifold and injector problem occurred within one week. Recall #3v473000 and there was a recall for the suspension.
Manifold gasket failure, excessive loss of coolant. Returned car to dealer, dealer stated it was a normal occurrence. Have since talked to several people with same problem. We had problem fixed at our expense, $861. 63. Have been to several sites where complaints such as ours have been excessive (mycarstats. Com).
2002 oldmobile Alero has failing intake manifold gasket which allows coolant to leak into engine. Estimates to repair are over $800 and after researching the fact that tens of thousands of others have the same problems with various gm vehicles manufactured from 1995-2003 I'm at a loss as to why this hasn't been taken care of. Gm released bulletin 03-06-01-010 in which it suggests replacement of a "new design intake manifold gasket" which was changed to "improve the sealing qualities of the gasket". If there was no problem with the original there's no need for a replacement. Gm is unwilling to repair this yet it affects 3. 1 and 3. 4l v6 engines of some 14 different gm models not to mention a similar affliction with the 3. 8l.
I have had to replace 4 engines 2. 4l on my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. My last engine lasted 32 days after I spent 1200$ and now I need to have work done to it again.
