The car will shut off while driving/idling. There are no check engine lights. Took it to get the latest recall fixed that had to do with this and they just gave us new keys. It did not remedy the situation! now we are paying to fix it because it is still shutting off while driving.

While driving the vehicle the car shut off while ignition was on. No warning whatsoever.

Starter turns but will not start.

It just started after the security got lock and had to be over drive. When you drive you can feel the car idle bad when you have to stop for a light or stop sign or if you have to stop to turn and you get below 1 mga turns off. Yesterday it did this and turn off and all it would do is just turns but doesn't start. In the middle of the road. It sounds to me like it's not get fuel or air where it needs to be. You can drive the speed limit and watch the mga, I think, 1,2,3, ildel down a little. Started end of sept or no troubler.

Security light comes on, when flashing car will not start.

Takata recall, since the car has a ignition problem and it is at the putnam gm burlingame till now they don't do any of recall even diagnose the car and they want me to remove it now or I have to pay to fix it different from the manufacture customer service says last Tuesday when I tow that car to their place after I tell to them the situation they said they taking care of it, now they change. I feel like because I have a older car and no value they don't think about the safety of the car and the damage could be made to others. I can't. Drive that car not safe. I can't work without car please help . I'm not asking to fix the paint or wheel. Just check what they have to fix stopping of engine and hard to start cause by ignition and the airbag must work properly.

Bought car a year ago, it had issues with turn signals not working. I googled issue and replaced hazard switch 125,000 miles. Now at 155,000 timing chain slipped, it's replacement worth more than car value. I heard after 2004 a change was made because of issues but no recall. Car was pulled to end of driveway before taking a close out of town trip, turned off to check oil and such, wouldn't start. Estimate received to repair 2,500$. I am furious!.

Tried to start car and it would not start, only crank. Started next morning and had it towed to repair shop and it would not start intermittently. Repair shop said to take it home because they could not diagnose or fix. I checked the internet and discovered that this has been an ongoing problem with certain gm vehicles and many people are complaining. There is a way to start it sometimes by waiting ten minutes with key in acc and then turning off and then removing the key and then re starting. This is working but not always. Apparently gm is fully aware of this problem but has taken no action to correct it. I am afraid that I may be stranded somewhere or the security system could possibly turn the car off. Also there is discussion that this may also be a bad ignition switch but there is no recall for this vehicle for the switch, only the key!.

My ignition switch does not invoke the engine. It has happened couple of times with my Alero. Last year as per the recall notice gm dealer changed the keys and not the entire ignition module. 1g3nl52e74c168452: after a day of light driving after being stationary for about an hour and a half in colorado springs CO (cool weather) upon starting the vehicle the temp needle went from cool to almost overheated in the under 30 mins it took to go from one store parking lot to the next nearby one. The vehicle became fully overheated & sparks / 1' flames emerged from the sides of the front hood. Upon being shut off the flames receded, after approx 30mins sitting the hood was lifted & fluids checked (all were at appropriate levels). The vehicle was started again & ran idle for 20 mins & the sparks / flames reappeared again so the vehicle was shut down & a ride called. Upon being picked up the next day the vehicle ran fine again for the most part with only slight overheating - it was taken for an engine wash / under hood at an appropriate facility to remove any flammable / combustible residue. Had to be driven at speeds under 50mph to return home without further problems.

I attempted to start my car to head home on an hour drive. It would not start, no cranking of any kind or power to the starter or starter solenoid. Ran a diagnostics test at a parts store and came back about the "intake air temperature circuit high input. " I didn't think much about it, but the part is relatively cheap, I just don't know if I can replace that myself. But when I registered my vehicle it came back as a fail on the emissions test for the state due to this part. While looking it up and checking on line about this issue I saw several entries that it may also affect the warning lights for abs and braking systems. Those have been on as well for a long time. I have had the brakes replaced twice in the past 2 years. The second time was because they had given me defective brake pads the first time and they were worn out with in 3 months. But now I have to get the intake air temperature circuit replaced, and it sounds like it may be more wiring than the circuit itself, but I don't have time and ability to work through all the possibilities, nor the money to let a mechanic do it as well. If this is a known issue, then why isn't it being addressed by Oldsmobile (gm) either? they have a bulletin about it!.

Today I started my car with my automatic starter then 7 minutes later I hear a horn non stop beeping I lookout my door and my car is smoking and in flames from hood. Investigator tells me it totaled. After they put the fire out I look in car and only one air bag came out.

This has happenend to me in my 2001 oldsmobil Alero over and over again for the past 4 years,and have had it at 4 or 5 different shops and nobody can fix it. But the car turns off on me in the middle of driving and then wont restart. But after I have it towed home it will start a day or two later. . Ive had the battery replaced, the starter, the fuel pump, the alltinater and have had it hooked up to the computer to see if any warning signals go off and nothing comes up. . Its happened on the highway on back roads and while sitting at a stop light. It is very dangerous and I think and hope that Oldsmobile will do something about it to help its costomers have a safer commute to and from their destination. . .

Car cut off while driving, would not start, security light flashing, took to shop cost 800. 00 for new fuel pump, then a month later same deal come to find out it's the ignition switch having to due with the security, sometimes the car will not start sometimes it cuts off while driving. They need to recall this its very dangerous not to mention the 800. 00 spent for a fuel pump I guess I didn't need. You can reset it. Works only temp. Leave the key in the on position until the security light goes out thdn go straight to start, most the time this works. It is very dangerous for the car to shut off at 60 mph on the highway which has happen to us.

The vehicle was taken to another dealer. The dealer then stated the failure was caused because of a defective ignition switch. The vehicle was repaired. The failure did not reocured . The failure mileage was 107,650. Az.

The gm passkey 2 security feature acts up constantly on these cars including the intrigue, malibu, cadilac. The security light comes on and disables the vehicle and a 40 minute relearn procedure must be completed each time. Happens to my vehicle 2-4 times a week.

Car has repeatedly shut off at speed, sometimes restarting, twice needing to be towed.

I have a 2001 old Alero 6 months ago my vehicle would not start I had it towed to a gm dealer which told me I needed a fuel pump so I had it fixed well a few weeks later car would start one day then nothing the next now it wont start at all it died while I was driving with my 4 children we were stuck for an hour in the cold I had it towed to my mechanic he says it the security system well it will cost almost 1000 dollars to fix so it will sit there until gm decides to do a recall I am not the first to complain and I know I wont be the last there should be something done as this is a safety issue.

I was on my way to work on 3/13/11 driving my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, and my car started filling up with black smoke. I immediately pulled over and got out of my car, I suddenly saw flames inside of my vehicle . I called the fire department and by the time they put out the fire my car was totaled.

I attempted to start my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero and it won't start. It was as if the fuel was shut-off. I had to have my car towed home. I noticed the security light was flashing. I checked on-line and people suggested, turning the key to the start position and leaving for 10 minutes, apparently this allows the computer to reset. (or you can disconnect the battery and reconnect it, this will also reset the computer. ) there is a problem with the passlock system. It's a huge problem for many people. Gm does not acknowledge this problem and is unwilling to correct the defect. This defect should be recalled.

01 Alero will turn over but not start. First incident was in 2006 replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. Some days it will start others it will not. It also has died while driving twice. Once on the highway and once in town. I was driving across the street with my son and the car died luckily I coasted out of the line of traffic. For the past week it has only started once out of multiple attempts to start it. It shows cam sensor, crank sensor, passlock, codes when diagnostics ran. Other sites have had same issue with nothing being a permanent solution to problem. Car needs to be recalled.
