Engine And Engine Cooling Problems of Oldsmobile Alero - part 2

Power windows have both went out had to replace the motor for that, 2 times now the rack and pinion has came out and 2 times I have had to replace altenator had to replace overflow resorvoir I dont find this to be a reliable or safe car to be in. I bought it used so who knows what has happened before I got it I forgot to mention my part-time signal lights they work when they want to and I had to replace air conditioning compresser I have only had car 5 yrs myself and its so not worth the money I have put into it the dates vary but the first was in 2004 and the last was 2009.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated she was unable to start the vehicle with or without the vehicle key when inserted within the ignition switch. Car will not start . . . . Sometimes after it has been driven it will not start back sometimes it will take around 30mins to start back other times longer, the length of time it has been driven when it does this varies sometimes its very short distance others it is a little longer. The car turns over but will not start. It does not do this all the time but you never know when it will do this. We have had the fuel pump changed recently and the battery is fine.

My girlfriend bought a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero from a dealer with a 30 day warranty. The cars antifreeze mixes with the oil (head gasket) . He never fixed this and dissapeared on us. This was in March 09. I was told that I might be able to contact gm and they might be able to fix this problem. I've read online that this car was recalled because of numerous problems. When trying to start car, it want turn over such as start at all. Could be from bad spark plugs or bad connection somewhere. This does this very so often sometime after the car has been driven some distance. This situation has not been fixed yet, but has put a new starter and battery on there. Do not have the money to keep putting into it if it does not fix the problem the first time.

2000 olds Alero . Shuts off while driving. Read numerous other reports on the Alero . Same problem.

I've only had my car since Nov 07 for the past 4mos my trac off, trac low, service engine, and change oil lights come on and stays on I've took car to mechanic and they cant seem to find anything wrong but when I m driving my car act like it going to cut off or it'll like slow down a lil bit and then catch speed. This happens on the highway its very scary.

Engine turns over but wont start until cranked on for a minute or more. Hazard relay clicks repeatedly.

Timing chain broke at 60k miles. Destroyed valves. Also ignition switch broke at 45k miles.

Without any warning or signs, the car engine died at approximately 65,000 mi. Car was driven locally and was well taken care of. It cost $1,700. 00 to replace (with an engine that had 43,000 miles. ), and seems that the engine should have lasted for more than 65,000 miles.

My car in a period of 2 months(on and off) was in the shop for a month b/c it would start when it felt like it. The mechanic said "a cold start".

Car engine compartment completely engulfed in flame after 5 mile drive to a shopping mall. Car was cruising parking lot looking for space when fire erupted.

Within my 36,000 of driving from 50,222 to 86,119 my intake gaskets have been replaced twice. My rack has been replaced twice and will need to be replaced a third time. I am also aware that the rack was replaced while the previous owner had the car. Recently I realized why water was getting into my passenger side of the vehicle. The window seal is shifted causing the window to leak if the car is parked at certain inclines. This repair is not covered by my pre-owned vehicle warranty. All major repairs have been covered by my warranty and any additional costs have bee quote "eaten" by repair facilities.

While placing car in reverse the engine began knocking and has not ran since. Not happy at all still owe a lot of money and car doesn't run!! not worth the money.

Consumer stated the coolant temperature indicator was replaced.
