The vehicle was parked and once I put it into reverse to back out of the parking space, the engine locked up and the steering, brakes, gas didn't work. I had to take the key out of the ignition and restart it. This is the third time that I've had this issue within the last 3 months and the previous 2 instances occurred while the vehicle was actually moving and accelerating. I have had some extremely close calls that could have ended very dangerously because of this issue. I use my car keys without any other keys attached, so that it's as lightweight as possible. In the past year, this same exact issue has happened 8 times and is beginning to occur more and more frequently. I would really appreciate some recognition of this issue.

When slowing down to accommodate another car, my vehicle began unable to accelerate and then I noticed that the brakes had locked up as well. I had to take the key out of the car and restart it for it to work again.
While slowing my speed to get onto the ramp to the expressway, my steering wheel locked completely and wouldn't allow me to turn. Additionally my pedals stopped working and my car came to a stop. I had to turn the car completely off and restart it.
I was slowing down at a stoplight, decreasing my speed, alternately using the brake and coasting. The steering wheel then locked up and the pedals stopped working and the car completely stopped. I had to turn the engine totally off and restart it for it to work again.
While coming to a stop at a stoplight, the steering wheel seized up and the pedals locked. The engine stopped. I had to turn the car off and then start it again.
My 2002 Aurora v6, rpm started acting haywire it shot up to 8 grand at 30 mph. The engine and transmission were acting normal. It happened again 2 days latter then all of my dash lights and headlights went out. I took it in to the shop. I had the trans vacuum sensor changed along with the headlights. This did the trick for 24 hours. Not I have the same problem and the dealer can not figure out what is wrong or how to fix it. Can someone help with this.

I have a 1998 Aurora as wheel with the same problem of car shutting down. First I had the module replaced and it still did it. And then I was told to get my fuel injectors cleaned and I kept injector cleaner in my car when I filled up and the I finally got a full tune up and after that no problem. I was told bad spark plug wires will cause this as well.

Where to even begin with this 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora v8 so many problems with this car. Right now it smells like it's on fire. I see where gm had a recall last yr but the Aurora is not included, and it should be recalled. It also lunges forward when stopped at a light , it also dies when driving it.

After reviewing the complaints of the Oldsmobile Aurora 2001 I am having similar problems regarding check engine when going into the dealership to have service they still state that there is nothing wrong when I know that there was something wrong with the vehicle.
The consumer stated while driving, the engine cut off which had happened several times in the past week with loss of brakes and steering. When pulling off the road, the steering wheel broke off into driver's hands. Dealer would not repair.

I purchased a 1998 Aurora in 2002 - from the original owner. The vehicle continually shuts off while at a stop light or stop sign. It can occur at any time without any warining. It has even done so just slowing down to make a turn. I almost got rear ended this month because the engine died as I was simply making a turn. Luckily there was enough birm space to veer the car of the road. I have been slowing or stopping with one foot on the brake and the other tapping the gas to keep the engine from dying. I have had the vehicle to a local dealer with no findings.
Consumer states while starting vehicle there was an under the hood explosion. Dealer notified. Please provide additional information. Ts.
