Two problems related to frame and members have been reported for the 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette motor had fallen down. The discovered the cradle bolt on the passenger side was gone. The consumer unscrewed the drivers bolt and saw that it contained rust. The manufacturer would not cover the cost because they stated it had been tampered with before the consumer purchased the vehicle. The outer tie rods and hub bearings were replaced.
Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in NHTSA recall 97v05800 concerning rear cradle bolts failure. The rear cradle bolts pull through the retainers due to corrosion of the retainer. If both bolts pull through, the rear cradle would not longer be supported at these mounting locations and the steering intermediate shaft can separate from the steering gear. Dealer indicated this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to VIN.
