Four problems related to child seat have been reported for the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager tk. The vehicle has an integrated car seat that was built in and the straps kept tightening with the child in the seat. The child seat straps had to be cut to get the child out of the car seat. The dealership and manufacturer were not contacted. This occurred on September 10, 2005.
The child seat failure consisted of a cable connecting the latch plate to the belt tensioner mechanism. The failure is not faile "safe". A failure safe mode would maintain the seat belt and child restrained. The failure mode instead leaves the belt loose. This leaves parents with a false sense of security since they believe their child is safely restrained. This is also an expensive repair since Chrysler designed the integrated child seats contained in the bench to be unmaintainable requiring parents to purchase the complete bench in excess of $600. Nlm.
Upon attempt to remove child from build-in child safety seat, harness locked and would not dis-engage. Only alternative for removal was to cut the belt. Please contact with recommendations for repair and/or further action.
Integrated child safety seat belt retractor failed to release child.
