I have a problem with my paint on my 1996 Plymouth Neon peeling off. Its not like it on the roof or hood its all over the car the trunk, the doors, the hood and the roof are all peeling. I know I am not the only one with this problem either.
Water leakage in trunk area, and rear of the car floor boards, saturated.
Since 2003 this vehicle had small patches and a car wash by hand or brushless and no sun will cause it to peel. The patches have become larger.
Cd player on the 2000 Neon is mounted on the floor. . . . At the bottom of the stack of center dashboard equipment. Beyond a working reach of most drivers. I feel my daughter's line of sight was obscured as she reached down to put in a cd. She had just started driving this car 2 weeks prior. She drove it 30 miles to work in the next town. This cd alignment is such that even I (who is 4" taller than my daughter) would not reach the cd player without compromising my ability to drive. I would like to see that my concern would be joined with others: where this issue would be brought forward to raise the awareness of autos that are built in a risky way. . . . Where auto makers would not be allowed to construct accessories at the extreme limits of the reach of the driver. I would be willing to be a part of a watchdog group that would take this issue forward. Illustrating the issue, asking for change. 8 weeks ago my daughter died in that head on collision. Yesterday, after the accident investigation report was completed, I was allowed to take the cd player out to see if she was using it. And yes, there was a kids cd in the machine that my wife and I had not played. (I had never used the cd player. My wife only minimally. I think our teenage daughter was attracted to try to use it, even when it was beyond reasonable reach. ) my understanding is that my daughter reached down to manipulate this factory installed cd player and veered from the driving lane. There was no sign of braking. Just that quick, seconds, she was head on into another vehicle. 2 months ago on a clear day my daughter drove her Plymouth Neon across the center line and into an on coming car. Following the accident investigation I was able to understand from the other party that they could not see her face as she came forward into them.
I took my car in for a 60,000 mile check-up and was astounded to learn that the head gasket was leaking at only 57,000. I could not afford the repair at this time and the mechanic said that nothing was leaking that would hurt the engine, but it should be taken care of soon. In all the years I've had a car I've never had a leaking head gasket and at 57,000, too. My last car, also a Plymouth, had over 127,000 miles on it and I never had problems with the engine. I do not misuse my vehicle, I have the oil changed every 3 to 6,000 miles and do everything possible to keep it trouble free.
My Neon has a problem with paint peeling. Large spots of paint come off all over the vehicle, but primarily on the back and on the roof. I can't even wash the car, because each time I do more patches of paint come off. I have noticed this same problem on every Neon that is the purplish (periwinkle) color I have seen. Is there some kind of paint defect with this particular color. The dealership said that the paint was only under warrenty for 12 months, and since it was a 1996 and I wasn't the original owner there is nothing he can do. I realize it is an older car, and I wouln't complain if it was normal wear on a car, but this is more than normal aging.
Major oil leak from head gasket which was replaced. Cracked manifold replaced. Blower motor to heater went out and was replaced. Ignition coil replaced. Also tires, brakes, struts, battery. When I first leased the car I had to get new tires as there were plugs in two of the tires and they blew out. When I leased the car it was 2 years old and previously leased. I had to have an engine mount replaced that was missing, left turn signal didn't work and that was replaced. Also, paint on hood is bubbling and is starting to peel on right passenger side panel behind rear window. Driver side window doesn't roll up tight and air blows in and it whistles. Also lines on windows on passenger and driver side from rolling it up and down.

Head gasket replaced, then it lost all power, and engine service light came on. I took it back, they said it needed spark plugs. I have it back, but it is still missing and I am not convinced that my problems are over.

My vechile has been in the shop more the 20 times. Most of the parts where repaired more then three time. Recently my car failed check. I want out of the car because this car is unsafe it breaks every three weeks to every three to four months.
The sunroof would only open on right side/ was binding on the right. Had to have sunroof assembly replaced. Noticed oil pooling under my car. Took it in and was told it was the head gasket leaking oil. Had it replaced. 12 days later the service engine light came on and took it back to the dealership. They said there were deposits on the valves and the springs had to be replaced.

The power window motors in my vehicle have repeatedly burned out. I did replace the power window motor in the passenger's side while it was still under warranty, but it burned out again several months later. Later on, the driver's side power window motor also burned out. I have been without power windows on both the driver's and passenger's side for three to four years now.
Oil was leaking from underneath vehicle. Engine check light came on dashboard. Dealership replaced wire harnesss. Leaking inside of back truck and a mold like substance was inside of truck. Passenger's side door was leaking when there was rainy weather. Als, dealership replaced a weather strip on side of panel.
The car is five "5" years old with 45,ooo miles on it. While it is out of warranty I think the paint job should last a lot longer. When I took the car to the dealer I was told anything over the warranty time limit was to bad. No safety defect.

While driving, consumer heard loud noise and realized engine was overheating, engine failed, engine light gave no warning that something was wrong.
The paint on this car is coming off in good size pieces around the entire car. If it was the hood, that would be understandable, but the sides, roof and trunk is not normal. Please advise on what steps can be taken to have the manufacturer repaint auto. No safety defect.
I have had non-stop problems with the car since day one. It is getting to costly to keep repairing the same problems over and over again. I am really disappointed in the help I have received from the dealership in regards to the several problems I have had with the car. No safety defect mentioned in summary.
I was driving to work and this car pulled out in front of me and I pushed the brakes and I slid into the car causing me to spin around and end up on the wrong side of the road. I have replaced the brakes every year and they still squeak really bad. The transmission has leaked for the entire time I have had the car. I have to replace the tires every 3 months and a/c went out 3 years after I bought the car. I haven't fixed the a. /c compressor the cassette tape player stopped working after I bought the car and it's still broke. The bulbs in the lens of the light are very dim can't drive at night. I had to replace to rotors this year I still have them.
Consumer was traveling about 40mph on the highway, and she noticed that car was shaking, and the engine check light came on the dashboard. Vehicle started stalling. Consumer veered over into the shoulders, and then she got the vehicle to start backing up.
I bought the car new which would not start for test drive was told someone left dome light on. After jump, it worked fine for a few thousand miles. Then went to car and would not start one day. There was no battery light on or any warning. It has happened 2 more times since then. Rear brakes wear out within a few months from replacement. Dealer fixed once and I have incured the expense several times since. I can not even afford to do it anymore leaving me to take a risk of driving with bad rear brakes. The most recent of events to occur this morning my drive belts broke. After taking vehicle to dealer to replace them I was told the belts broke because the tensioner pulley had tilted. I was also informed from service tech that they see lots of them come in like that and that they were surprised that there had not been a recall or at least a TSB. The car is paid for and was bought because I needed more reliable transportation than my previous vehicle. Sad part is my previous vehicle is still running with minimal repairs made to it since I had it. Also I have called daimler chrystler and emailed them on numerous occasions and have been told there is nothing they can do about it.
Previous to experiencing head gasket failure vehicle was running fine. At approximately 6 a. M. , I was commuting to work at a speed of 45 m. P. H. When the oil light came on, and the engine acted like it was going to die. The oil light stayed on for about five seconds and then went off. The car continued to run ok until I arrived at work. After work, I checked the oil and found the dipstick to be dry. I added oil to the appropriate level. I had a mechanic check the vehicle and he discovered the head gasket was blown. This mechanic - as well as others (including the dealers') - stated that the Neon has a long history of head gasket problems. At the time of discovery, there was a lot of oil underneath the car and on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I am very upset at Chrysler - especially now that I have learned of the widespread problem among Neon owners.

While daugther was driving about 45 mph engine red light came on dashboard. Then she stopped vehicle and checked under hood where oil/ anti-freeze was leaking from engine head gasket.
A 1996 car with 32,000 miles on it should not have paint flaking off in many different places of the car. Right down to metal the paint that comes off comes off like paper!!very disappointed in Plymouth and how they have handled this problem with us!!all the dealers try to pass us on to the next without giving us any information or explaination for these happening!!!.

While driving at any speed vehicle was cutting off and stalling, and sometimes consumer couldn't go over 30 mph. When consumer tried to get over 30 mph, vehicle would stall and cut off without prior warning. Also, air conditioner had problems, and engine check light kept coming on. Dealer had to change the engine check light, consumer took vehicle in for repair service about 10 times, and the consumner just got the vehicle out of the shop on Feb 17th. Dealer can't determine the problem.
Since the purchase of this 1996 Plymouth Neon, in March 17,1997 there has been numerous problems. Starting with camshaft seal. Oil leakage around head gasket many times, radiator recall, multiple cylinder misfire, break repairs, master cylinder seals swollen, rubber trans return cooler line cracked, rebuilt trans and replaced seals, fuel pump replacement, replace rear main seal, replace pan gasket, replace oxygen sensor, and recent trans failure.

Engine's head gaskets developed an oil leak. This caused the engine to seize up. Engine check light kept coming on. Took to dealership & mechanic indicated engine needs to be replaced.
Engine check light came on at 38,000 miles. All the fluids are full and the car runs fine. Is this an automatic thing that comes on at 38,000 to get the car checked or is it realy a problem?.

Engine head gasket has been going out since 1/00, and now severe oil leaks , ive put in 5 quarts of oil in the last 3 days! (this seems to be a reoccurring problem in nearly all 97 Neons as, in my opinion, the manufacturer admits through at least two service bulletins) my check engine light comes on frequently and my oil light never goes off regardless of oil level in engine. I feel that the manufacturer is solely responsible for this head gasket repair and stronglt urge you to force them into a recall since they obviously are aware of the problem but refuse to fix thier mistakes. Also my turn signals do not turn off after completion of a turn this has occurred since odometer reading of 30,000. Interior door panel, passenger side, keeps coming loose from the frame, the dealer has repaired this twice but it is loose yet again. My interior roof light has not worked since first time door panel came loose. And lastly, it frequently happens that when my passenger trys to exit the vehice they receive a painful electric shock upon touching the door handle or panel. I sincerely hope you can help me with at least the head gasket default on my vehicle and once again I would like to urge you to force the manufacturer to issue a recall on this common problem!.
