31 problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1996 Plymouth Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1996 Plymouth Voyager needs 3rd transmission. The first transmission lasted four years and five months and 56k miles.
While driving, the vehicle suddenly stopped. After having it towed, it was discovered the transmission was defective. The consumer stated that the transmission had a broke part.
I own a 1996 Plymouth Voyager and on this min van the wipers act very erratic. They work when they want. Sometimes they won't shut off and other times they will not come on at all or stop right in the middle of your view. I also have an issue with the serpentine belts popping off the drive line leaving you with no power steering or power brakes and completely disables the vehicle. I also experience issues with the rear shocks. The bolts come loose and detaches the rear shick from the van leaving it quite uncontrollable while driving. All 3 issues happens on many occasions. All 4 of these defects make this van very dangerous to drive or travel with. Currently my van is sitting in my drive with a bad transmission. I have owned the van for 5 years now and in 5 years I have blown 3 transmissions.
I am one of the many many customers that are experiencing complete failures with the Chrysler 41te ultradrive transmissions. In my case I hade a complete transmition replacement at 79,000 miles. At 123,000 miles while pulling into traffic the vehicle stopped moving and the engine started revving very high. I hade the vehicle towed to the dealer that had installed the first transmission. I was informed that the transmission was over its 36,000 warranty and needed to be replaced. I have declined the $2900 estimate and I am currently getting a second opinion on the repair. My concern is that while I was researching the problems of this transmission, I found that most owners of the 41te transmission will experience similar problems at an average of 80,000 miles. I further learned that Chrysler knows that these transmissions will fail, as they have been replacing them sense the 1980¿s when it was named the a604. We need to get these vehicles off the road until the problems can be resolved. In my case, I just experienced the inconvenience of finding myself stranded. If my timing had been different, my situation would have been a lot worse.
Consumer states of having problems with the transmission and it was replaced at the consumer expense, the consumer feels a major component like the transmission should last longer than 80000 miles and that the manufacturer should have offered some assistance with the cost of the repairs. Mr.

Complaint #7857854 filed with us chryslercustomer center (800)992-1997 on 9/16/00.
Steel pin inside transmission loosened and rotated inside trans case and blew a hole 3 x 6 inches in the trans case losing all fluid and locking the trans up. Call to Chrysler dealer confirmed that it was a problem, trans shop said they were averaging 1 a month and that ours was the worst they had seen to date and that bodily injury was probable had my wife been traveling at highway speeds Chrysler wanted the trans back but said that age and mileage prevented any reinbursement which is exactly what they said when the wheel bearings failed , they were man made parts and man made parts wear out. Every dealer /trans shop I have talked tosays that the trans are good for 80000 miles inthe northeast and are prone to failure they aren't in the south because of the absence of slippery conditions. I wasn't aware that a 25000 dollar vehicle should be considered disposable after 80000 miles unless you are willing to pay 1500 dollars for a trans and 510 for wheel bearings especially since this is supposed to be the most popular vehicle in its class.

My wife and 6 year old daughter were driving home from the dentist office, as they left town and began to accelerate the engine rpm went up but the van started slowing down. Coasted off the side of the highway, they tried to go again and nothing. Called for help and had vehicle taken to local shop for examination of problem. Van only has low gear, no others including reverse. Have heard a lot of complaints of others having trans. Problems around same milage. Trying to find more info on manufacturers replacement or repairs at less cost than the.
This van had electrical problems from the beginning. The transmission was just the final straw for us. Then to see how many other people had put multiple transmissions in their Chrysler vans. It's a crime.
While driving the vehicle loses power. Trying to restart, engine will not turn over. Dealer contacted and is aware of the problem. Problem tracked to a component related to the automatic transmission. When tapped, it would prevent the van from starting.
Changed battery 3 times don't know mileage/changed starter 2x. Second time transmission went - was told I was lucky to get another 30, 000 miles out of it.
