general problems of the 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Five problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 1997 Plymouth Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 1997 Plymouth Voyager. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 30 mph, the vehicle erupted into flames. The contact pressed down on the acceleration pedal, noticed that the vehicle was not on and changed gears into neutral to coast the vehicle off the road. The contact was able to extinguish the flames with a water hose from a residential home. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence and was to be inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for a response to determine how the failure occured and if the vehicle could be repaired. The contact was also included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 98v185000 (child seat), 02v076000 (seat belts), 02v293000 (air bags) but did not receive notification of the recalls to receive the repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 300,000. Dyd.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2004

1997 Voyager stahls often. Come to a complete stop at red light, accelerate and the engine stalls. No warning and no warning lights displayed. We start the van up again and continue on. Also, on the highway we had two instances of this van stalling. Was able to restart and continue on. Need help, what is causing this very dangerous situation?.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

The vehicle experienced a fuel leak. The electrical system has not worked while vehicle was running. (window, blinkers, and the radio) restarting the vehicle solves the problem each time. Scc.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2002

All gauges on vehicle drop to zero except the gas gauge. Can't tell what speed you are going. Can't tell what gear I am in. Automatic doors locks and alarm stop working. Blower works but no ac or heat. Was told it was the body control module.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2002

Safety recall clock spring assembly nar 1/22/2003 the air bag light illuminated and the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer where the problem was diagnosed as a short in clock spring. The power door locks were not unlocking, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. Another recall regarding the fuel rail was repaired, however the consumer was charged a $50. 00 deductible.
