Eight problems related to engine have been reported for the 1998 Plymouth Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle was shooting sparks from under the dashboard on the driver's side. Then, the brake lights and the dashboard lights could not be turned off. Mechanic had to turn the lights off by disconnecting or touching a wire. The ses light remained illuminated while driving. The horn stopped working. The brake light became stuck and the brakes felt spongy. The interior lights failed intermittently. The rear door lock wouldn't work with the key. The right rear wheel bearings were noisy. One of the front tires had cord separation.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning, the vehicle shut down and failed to restart. The van would cut off and wouldn't start for 2-3 hours maybe longer. The van no longer starts.
Consumer states that while driving and no warning the engine blew and the vehicle started to smoke under the hood causing the consumer to pull over. Dealer notified. Mr.
1998 Plymouth Voyager engine went out. The consumer has had numerous engine problem with her vehicle. The engine had been replaced twice.
Encountered blown head gasket on 98 Plymouth Voyager Mini-van that was less than 3 yrs. Old with a mileage in the 60000 range. A CO-worker has a 98 Voyager Mini-van with under 50000 miles that encountered the same problem. Has other owners reported any similar problems. .
While driving at highway speed of 65 mph brake pressure went to zero and pedal hit floor, causing a longer stopping distance , dealer could not determine cause. Consumer felt defect was caused by a hairline crack in the seal or cylinder head.
Oil pan is made of aluminum which results in the tread wearing out after several oil changes. Oil pan cannot be plugged.
The oil light illuminated. The dealer stated the head gasket needed to be replaced.
