7 Front Seat Recliner problem of the 1999 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 06/07/1999

On June 7th, 1999 I was on my way to work and I was stopped at a light on denton hwy. In fort worth, texas and I was rear ended by someone. My Plymouth Voyager was only a month old. When I hit my driver's seat went back in a reclining position and the metal part of my seat broke right into. It was a clean break from the way it looks. We still have the seat. My husband and I both feel that seat might have been defective for it to break into like that. It was only a month old. I talk to the guy we bought it from at meador Chrysler the next day after the accident. He had called us. I told him about the accident and that we were concerned about the seat breaking. He said he was sorry about the accident but that it probably broke from the impact of the collision. He said their seats are made of strong durable stuff. He did not give me the manufacturer's number nor offer it. Two weeks later I talk to the customer satisfaction dept. Because they had sent us a letter welcoming us to Chrysler family and if we had any concerns to call. I called and talk to him and told him of my concern. All he seemed to be concerned about was where I had the van fixed. Again, he did not offer the manufacturer's number. Neither of these people told me I shouldnt get my van fixed until an investigation was done nor give me the number to report the accident. I finally got the number from the payment center. I called the manufacturer and spoke to a lady there. She was very nice and told me they should have give me the number so I could report the accident and let them investigate the situation and that I shouldnt have got the van fixed. She said they would investigate and get back with me within 3 days. I got a letter from the investigation dept. Telling me that I got the van fixed so there was nothing to investigate. He said the seats were designed to recline back to protect you from neck injuries and protect other people in the van that might not be in a seat belt. .
