Driving from NY city on November 20, 2018 all of a sudden start hearing loud clunking/thumping noise from the under of the car. It was scary. Drove home very slowly with flashers on. Took the car to the Porsche dealer in rochester and they diagnose and quote me close to $2000 to replace the cardan drive shaft. I do not have the money and car is parked in the driveway at home.

Engine running increasingly rough on acceleration. Mechanic found driveshaft failure due to excessive axial play from center driveshaft support bearing. Driveshaft replaced. More than 50 similar failures are documented on gotaclassaction. Com. I've attached complaint to Porsche, their response and repair invoice.

Porsche has recalled the 2011 for headlight becoming loose. I have a 2004 with same problem. Any type of vibration or bump it becomes loose safety hazard when driving at night. Porsche is aware of driveshaft clunking because of faulty bushings and will not recall driveshafts it clunks whenn you need to accelerate to passs a semi but also when slowing down to a stop it also does it too. Porsche dealerbin wallingford CT will not acknowledge workshop campaigns.

Within minutes of driving my son to school, I heard a grinding sound from underneath my Cayenne, then a squealing, and the car began to vibrate violently during acceleration. This happened very quickly and was frightening because I was crossing a bridge in morning traffic. The service man at the Porsche dealership told me that this is an ongoing problem with these vehicles and that my drive shaft had come apart. I am a very careful driver and my car has low miles. I believe that there should be a recall and this is safety issue because of how quickly this happened while driving.
The contact owns a 2004 Porsche Cayenne s. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and failed to respond when contact attempted to accelerate. The vehicle accelerated at once and jolted rapidly. The contact stated that the failure recurred every time vehicle’s speed was around 20 mph. The contact was able to avoid the failure if the vehicle maintained a higher speed. After several days, the vehicle was not able to be driven. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repair; however when notified, they stated that the failure could be related to a failed drive shaft. The manufacturer was not made aware. The failure and current mileages were 94,000.
Upon returning from a 200 mile trip cruising at 60-65 mph and exiting the off ramp at lower speeds (25-30mph) my vehicle began to shake violently and stop upon coming to a complete stop. Once I started to accelerate the vehicle again began to shake violently and loud knocking came from the under carriage. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said there is a failure in the center drive shaft support bearing and has seen this in ever Cayenne he has serviced. I also looked this up online and found many complaints and service tech's talking about this failure around 70k-90k miles for ever Porsche Cayenne and vw toureg. I hope there is some manufacturer financial support for this obvious defect which should have been recalled a long time ago.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the driveshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred several times. Car was driving normal. Parked in garage and 2 hours later took back out for short drive. Reaching 25 mph, car begin shaking violently and than as accelerated further stopped shaking. Pulled over, than accelerated again slowly, car begin shaking at approx 50 mph. Slowed again. And car continued to shake violently at various speeds. Took to independent Porsche shop, and was diagnosed as "failed drive shaft center bearing".
Since I have had the vehicle I have had to replace the drive shaft 3 times. Porsche replaced it once under warranty and the other two times I had to pay in excess of $900. 00 to have it replaced. I have been told by Porsche that it has a defiective rubber seal and when the seal fails so does he drive shaft. This is a common defect and is know by Porsche at the dealers and the manufacturer. They have acknowledged the defect to me. My concern is if the drive shaft totally fails and breaks, not just flexing and hitting the floor, it could cause an accident by making the vehicle go out of control.
