1 Power Train problem of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 11/21/2024

Everytime when vehicle coming to a stop car lurches forward few feets. It just happens when car downshifts from second to first gear transmission pushes you forward few feets, you just need to be very carefull because it can push you into another vehicle or pedastrian. Porsche is aware of it and have a software update in europe only but not in USA.

2 Power Train problem of the 2019 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 08/19/2024

When car downshifts from 2nd gear to 1st gear, it lunges / jerks forward, even as brakes are applied. Porsche mechanic and Porsche cars north America both indicate nothing is wrong with the transmission. This is a constant issue. Everyday for the last two weeks. Every stop.

3 Power Train problem of the 2013 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

The drive train consists of an engine, transmission, transfercase, driveshafts and differentials. The transfercase has failed prior to the normal life cycle. Porsche recognizes this problem on this series of SUV and extends the warranty for 10 years and unlimited mileage. Porsche announced this extension in June 2024. However this does not cover the early models in this series 2011-2013 with the same drivetrain and transfercase. So in effect this failure of the transfer case is not covered on 2014 - 2011 Porsche Cayenne's models with the same transfercase because Porsche delayed the notification to customers. Even though the SUV may have low mileage, they will not warranty or cover my failure.

4 Power Train problem of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

The car is very jerky, I bought in for engine or transmission mount because the idle shakes the whole car. They said its normal. Which I don't think it's normal.

5 Power Train problem of the 2016 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 11/26/2023

While driving vehicle, noticed some slippage/clunking when turning. Took vehicle to Porsche dealer, they said transfer case needed to be replaced. Car has 12,600 original miles on it. Dealer said there was an extended warranty on the transfer case that had expired. In researching, it became obvious that there is a Porsche design problem that affected several model years for the Cayenne. As a mechanical engineer I am concerned that a transfer case failure at freeway speeds could be dangerous. Separately an auto mechanic shop opined that driving without replacing could be a safety concern. In my opinion there should have been a recall rather than a extended warranty.

8 Power Train problem of the 2006 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

The contact owns a 2006 Porsche Cayenne. The contact stated the front of the vehicle was facing uphill, the contact didn't want to reverse down the hill and was trying to turn the vehicle around to drive down the hill. The contact put the vehicle in park, and was hanging over the drivers front door trying to see where the edge of the hill was to back up the hill and drive down the hill. However, the gear went into neutral and the vehicle unexpectedly moved, rolling down the hill. The contact jumped into the moving vehicle and depressed the brakes as the back of the vehicle hit the ground smashing the muffler into the vehicle. No warning lights was illuminated and the air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed of the recall. The contact sustained injuries to the chest, left arm and shoulder, and the head. The contact also had bruises on both legs and arms, and a large laceration on right shin which required medical attention. In addition, the contact was traumatized. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the plastic bushing on the selector lever cable. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 19v446000 (power train) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they informed the contact they would repair the the vehicle and pay damages to the contact. The contacts customer support claim number was 800064408 however the contact has been unsuccessful reaching them. The approximate failure mileage was 158,322.

9 Power Train problem of the 2016 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

At slow speed, under acceleration, the transfer case slips, and makes a thumping noise. Over time, the car has poor acceleration when trying to get up to speed with other cars. The dealer has confirmed that this is a problem with Porsche Cayennes. Thank you.

10 Power Train problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 04/17/2023

I have a 2011 model Porsche Cayenne s. From the service records, I can tell the car has had two transfer cases already replaced and is in need of another. The first transfer case was replaced in mid-2016 by the dealer at about 46,000 miles. The second transfer case was replaced just over 12,000 miles later, at 58,500 miles, in late 2019. Both replacements were done by the previous owner. This should have been the newest and most updated transfer case with the new control modules and gnc-coated plates, but this does not appear to have solved the problems Porsche is having with the transfer cases. It is now mid-2023, and an independent shop says I need another transfer case in my car at 76,000 miles. It is hard to believe that Porsche considered the upgraded parts (2018+) to be a permanent solution, especially when it only lasted about 17,000 miles.      I will hopefully be able to have my local dealership dissect the transfer case I am replacing so that I can learn more about what actually failed on this updated unit. Transfer cases are a major part of the vehicle and should be expected to last just as long as other major components (ex. Engine, transmission). It is very unsafe when any major part of the drive train fails.   ps. One of the main reasons for purchasing this specific Cayenne was because I believed the transfer case it had installed in 2019 would have solved all of these issues and I would not need to replace it again.  .

11 Power Train problem of the 2017 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 01/23/2023

The contact owns a 2017 Porsche Cayenne. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled in the middle of a road. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated; however, the contact had been hearing an abnormal rattle and knocking sound from under the floorboard. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the bolts from the transfer case had loosened, and the case had separated from the drive shaft. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

12 Power Train problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

2011 Cayenne turbo: vehicle has had recent transfer case servicing. Experiencing a grinding sensation on roundabouts, and turns that almost feels as if the brake is applied. If issue continues to worsen, it could easily cause an accident as a sudden speed reduction on a roundabout, or turn may prompt unaware/inattentive drivers to rear-end me, or worse. Dealership is citing transfer case failure, however, my vehicle is one year removed from the end of the extended warranty campaign and is no longer eligible for a replacement unit.

13 Power Train problem of the 2013 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

The contact owns a 2013 Porsche Cayenne. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, there was an abnormal noise while shifting from first to second gear. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an unknown dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,300.

14 Power Train problem of the 2019 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

The vehicle lurches forward dangerously when coming to a complete stop. The brakes seem to release as the vehicle lurches forward.

15 Power Train problem of the 2014 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

When accelerating from a stop the car skips/shutters. This generally occurs gears 2-3. This problem has placed me in danger when trying to accelerate while making left hand turns.

16 Power Train problem of the 2021 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

While coming to a stop the vehicle lurches around 1200 rpms as the rpms are falling. The vehicle appears to already be in 1st gear when this happens. This can be replicated in all driving modes. Observation: when braking or even when coasting to a stop the vehicle will slow down rapidly, as if the brakes are being tapped hard (the brake pressure is constant and occurs even when not braking) for a brief second and then release causing a lurching motion. This lurching motion is enough to concern while driving as a possible loss of traction. It feels as if the car is engine braking. This issue puts the driver, passengers, and other vehicles at a safety risk. I have had passengers state that it gives them motion sickness. I have reported this to the dealer and they had the car twice. The second time was for a substantial amount of time. The dealer is on record stating that they can recreate it, observe it, but have not been able to fix it. They have reset the software on several systems including the transmission. There are no third party devices on the car, the car is stock, there are no warning lights. This has been the case since day one of having the car (brand new).

17 Power Train problem of the 2019 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 10/25/2021

When braking to a stop, the car lunges forward even when foot is on the brake. This occurs at slower speeds around 5mph right before a dead stop.

18 Power Train problem of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 10/19/2021

The contact owns a 2020 Porsche Cayenne s. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, there was a rough hard deceleration. The contact stated that the vehicle lurched forward causing the driver to apply the brakes. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where the contact was informed that there might be a possible software patch soon. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,100.

19 Power Train problem of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 10/12/2021

When downshifting and just before coming to a complete stop and vehicle lurches/surges forward even though my foot is on the brake pedal. This happens in every drive mode with or without autostart/stop engaged. It is significantly challenging in stop and go traffic because it’s difficult to gage when the car will come to a complete stop. I have to make accommodation for the car lunging forward which is unpredictable because sometimes it’s a subtle surge forward and other times I have no control or idea how far forward the car is going to move. This makes this is especially dangerous when cars are quickly changing lanes in front of me in stop and go traffic during rush hour. Emergency braking does not help this! I have experience this. The collision warning went off in the car and emergency braking was engaged just at the knick of time! adverse weather conditions could have easily made that a very bad accident. I should be able to do normal every day driving and stopping, for example stopping to a red light, or stop and go traffic without having to activate emergency functions in my car and putting myself at unnecessary risk because of a “glitch” with Porsche. This normal every day driving. I returned my car to the dealership who told me it’s normal performance for this car along with. I along with many other owners have researched this and found out that software upgrades have been done to correct this problem which are not available yet in the united states. This issue needs to be resolved immediately to prevent potential accidents.

20 Power Train problem of the 2021 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 09/15/2021

When the vehicle is decelerating and the transmission is in gear 2 the vehicle will lurch forward interfering/fighting with the normal operation of the brakes. This consistently happens when braking to a stop. The vehicle has 260 miles and I have driven it perhaps 4 - 5 times for a total of 30 miles. This is demo vehicle bought from a Porsche dealership and under full warranty.

21 Power Train problem of the 2016 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 08/13/2021

When slowing almost to a stop, and then need to accelerate, such as slowing for a yield sign, then trying to merge, vehicle is non responsive to throttle input for at least a second, or more. This has put me and others at risk because I assume I'm going to be able to accelerate when pull into traffic and am not able to. The dealer has had the vehicle but was unable to reproduce. It does not always do it, there's some combination of engine, drivetrain or fuel management it's in that does this. I have disabled start/stop mode. There are no system messages or obd errors. The dealer has said that others have experienced this and the manufacturer has told them it's "normal". It's a safety problem and I'm seeking help in getting the manufacturer to fix it. Note, I sent the attached letter to manufacturer and did not receive a reply. I called their customer support line around sept 20th and they did not offer any escalation or other action to address other than writing to their email address. I did this, and received no response.

22 Power Train problem of the 2004 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 06/09/2021

The cam shaft actuator has gone out. . Recalled on newer vehicles mine is 2004. Front airbag is also non operational.

23 Power Train problem of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 04/26/2021

My Porsche 2020 s has breaking issues when in sport mode. When the car downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear, and 2nd to 1st gear, this is a sudden jolt forward or "lurging" that occurs every time. This is a safety risk in bumper to bumper traffic as the car can suddenly jump forward a few feet more than intended by normal breaking. Even when driving and breaking explicitly to compensate for this transmission / breaking defect, the lurging issue cannot be avoided. The only way to avoid this issue is to (a) break hard from 3rd to 1st gear (so from a fairly high speed down to 0, which lends additional breaking safety risks in non-ideal weather conditions such as breaking downhill or on wet / icy roads), or (b) to not drive the car in one of the two driving modes offered. The manufacturer's service department claims there is no issue, but some quick google searches show this issue is experienced widely and well documented, and a software fix has been rolled out overseas that isn't available in north America.

24 Power Train problem of the 2013 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

Grinding & clunking noise from drive train at low engine speeds. Took it to Porsche dealership in October, 2020. They did not fix the problem and I was told it is ok to drive. The noise is getting worse from initial whining to grinding & clunking noise. Online forums indicate that it is a common problem with Cayenne & macan models of Porsche. Porsche has acknowledged the issue on there website with warranty extension. When I call the Porsche customer support. They are not acknowledging the warranty extension. I think it is a major safety issue and need to be address by Porsche.

31 Power Train problem of the 2015 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

My Porsche Cayenne diesel has had the Porsche diesel emissions settlement program "fix" completed. Since the "fix" the vehicle has become dangerous to drive in certain situations. When merging, turning a slow speed corner or rolling through a yield sign there is a significant lag/delay from the time the throttle input happens and a response from the motor. This delay has been as long as 2 seconds leading to numerous near misses. Porsche has insisted the vehicle is fine and refuses to do anything about it.
