My vehicle doesn't start/idle well in the cold due to the air intake manifold bolts slowly becoming loose. **when driving and shifting** the vehicle cannot handle the extra unclean air entering the system and will stall out while going anywheres from 0-60+ mph, once the engine shuts off all power steering also shuts down. The secondary issue is an acceleration problem because the seals on the air intake valves into the combustion chamber have become faulty resulting in cylinder misfires and a high amount of vibration intermittently while driving, the symptoms come and go with increasing frequency as time goes on. This secondary issue ties into the first issue because of shifting with a standard my vehicle today (12/3/2020) shut off while driving 7 times to and from my job.

My car wouldn't start so I replaced the battery and the crankshaft sensor. It drove fine and then I parked it and went out a little later and it would jerk and try to stall while I was driving, sputtering like I was running out of gas. If I pressed the accelerator, it wouldn't accelerate and then it would surge forward. I ran some errands and it drove fine. After my final errand, the car struggled to start but did and idled really roughly. I put it into gear and it died. I couldn't get it started again. After reading other posts, this seems like an issue with these years and veey dangerous.
Significant decrease in average mpg (problem from research online suggests it is from lowered compression from intake valve design/material used). 109700 miles on engine. Meticulously maintained by us navy submariner. Haven't contacted gm or SAAB affiliate yet. Forums used infer this problem is widespread for 2007-2009 SAAB 9-3 2. 0t with b207 engine. Summer time mpg is around 32-33, winter mpg is 30-31 in the pacific northwest. Last 3 fill ups, average mpg has dropped steadily from 30. 5 to 26 on the most recent fill up. Respectfully request to know if a recall or financial compensation by the manufacturer to consumers has been ordained?.
Ecu issues, loss power when driving.

When I used my cruise control sometimes it engages and does not engage. It did this for over a month. When I first bought the car, I did my research on it and it said that it has a steering fluid loss problem, because the quality is poor. I am curious to why there has not been a recall on it yet.
Vehicle stalls while in drive there is internal fuel issue causing engine to misfire and potential damage.
Takata recall, I took my 06 SAAB 93 aero into bellevue washington Cadillac dealership to get my air bag recall fixed, after I hot the recalled airbag replaced they reset my ecm and now my airbag light is on intermittently and drains my battery dead over night! I have called bellevue Cadillac and they refuse to do anything about the damage they did to my car by replacing the recalled airbag with another bad airbag! they listed in their computers that they fixed my car and never did so now I am stuck with another bad faulty airbag and now a battery drain issue from it. My car has been literally undriveable since the day they replaced the recalled airbag. The car also has a failed gas gauge due to electrical issues from the factory which was never recalled, the fuel sending units are bad and never worked properly since the car was purchased which alot if people with the same Saabs have experienced all over the world!.
Car starts and shuts off.
Vehicle stalls for no reason. This has happened while driving on the highway and during routine trips through streets with stop lights and stop signs. Check engine light comes on intermittently. Has been inspected my numerous mechanics and cannot find a problem.
I have owned my 2008 SAAB 9-3 for about a year now and I have had an ongoing rough running issue that seems to be getting worse. When I start my car up in the morning it runs very rough. Ihave gotten it diagnosed and it is misfiring dramatically like 6000 on one cylinder and 1081 on another . I have done some research and had this problem diagnosed, several times, as having bad intake valves. After doing more research on this problem, I have come to find this is a rather common issue with this specific year make and model. This is concerning because I have had this repair quoted at over $2500. 00. I am very familiar with manufacturer recalls and have been told by multiple dealerships to submit a complaint in order for this problem to be covered under a manufacturer recall due to faulty parts. There is only 80,000 miles on the car!!!!!!!!!!!.

Reached 100k miles, and car began running very rough. Engine light came on and diagnosed as bad ignition coil. Paid for tune-up, ignition coil, and and fuel service. Less than a month later, same issue. Car running fine, then suddenly almost stalls and engine light blinks then stays on - car runs very rough at idle and acceleration. Replaced 2 more coils. Less than one month issue, same issue - car running ok, then just almost stalls and runs rough - engine light blinks then stays on - relaced #5 coil. When diagnosing, service tech advised that issue was likely worse, not maintaining compression - likely required valve job. Have already paid several thousands of dollars on ignition coils and other service to dealership for this issue, now facing large bill for valve job.
I contacted the local dealership in elk grove, GMC and on 3 different occasions they state they do not service SAAB vehicles. I told them that GMC is responsible for it and they stated there is only one location that we could take it to in central California by fresno if I want to get it fixed. Which it will be an undue hardship. I also told them that our car was spilling gas due to an original faulty unit. They stated there was a recall for that however, it somehow doesn't show on my VIN. Several times we ran out of gas and our kids got gasoline on their clothes. We called 4 dealerships and all of them state to go somewhere else. When I open the hood I see GMC brand all over the car. I believe GMC is discriminating against people with disabilities and not accommodating me. I told them I cannot drive 300 miles, I have to have someone take it because I had a stroke. They told me that they are GMC but they are not. If they are using that as an excuse then this recall committee should investigate into this and sanction them. At this point, because of safety recall is not available to get it done, I cannot safely drive with my kids. 2 of my kids are special needs kids. At this point, I would like GMC to reimburse me the full current value of the vehicle for their failure to do the needed recall repairs. If GMC made a faulty business choice when they took over the SAAB's the customers should not suffer. GMC constantly makes me feel that even though70% of the vehicle is GMC I don't have the same rights as GMC customers. Currently, the blue book value is $6500. I'm stopping paying registration in hopes to get this vehicle either traded in for another one by GMC or refunded. Since a recall is not supposed to be an undue hardship upon, GMC is devising and scheming and changing policies and procedures to discourage customers to getting service recalls to Saabs.
Frequently the car stalls suddenly in traffic, looses power I can't accelerate this is very dangerous potential to get hit. The other problem is the car vibrates and all of sudden a lot of smoke comes out from back and rich gasoline smell comes and the speed turns to 0. I turn it off for five minutes and restart sometimes it starts ok sometimes it vibrates again. This happens very frequently.

The intake valves are bad on this car and it has 100k miles on this. This is a $2000 plus job that comes out of pocket. It seems to be this is a common problem with Saabs and it appears there are several complaints on here. This needs to be recalled and paid for by gm, because they did not property build this engine if so many are failing. My car will turn over and not start in the cold weather.
SAAB 9-3 2002 frequently will not start even though it has new battery and newer alternator- may be ignition discharge module.

Engine very rough when starting after cold night. This seems to be a very common problem on the internet for these car models and years, and the official reason is improperly hardened (defective) intake valves. Eventually the car will not run. Repair is about $2500.

The cylinder valves are all having to be replaced though the car only has 77k miles. I have now researched and learned that this was a problem on the 2007,2008, and 2009 Saabs and nothing has been done to recall the cars. The resulting problem is that the car will not start when cold and the compression during a cold start is half of what it should be. The valves are faulty and the repair is $4000 at my local dealer, who is authorized to work on SAAB. This is a manufacturing issue and is not being recognized as such.
On the 2007-2011 SAAB 9-39-3 there is a common issue with the intake valve seals going bad causing a rough idle and/or misfire on cold starts. Mine exhibits this behavior but is not still under warranty. This is not just wear and tear it is a bad part or bad design that is basically designed to fail. To fix this it costs $1500+ and gm should be responsible for a flaw in the vehicle regardless of the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty.
The contact owns a 2006 SAAB 9-3. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the hesitated to accelerate and jerked intermittently. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 800. The VIN was not available.
My 2002 SAAB 9-3 convertible starts fine once it start moving goes off, then I starts it again, then when I stop it goes off and keep on doing it again and again. The first time I had the idea it was cold, but I noticed it doesn't matter it do it every time I stop at any light or stop sign, then I called the manufacturer number 1800-9559007 they asked me for the VIN # ys3df75k227015038 the customer service representative told me that vehicle doesn't have any recalls they can't do anything about it,then I told her if my vehicle is suffering the same problems in the recall description it should be repaired by the manufacturer, but she told me that unless your vehicle gets on fire or accident they can't include it in any recalls. They should do something about it since this is a manufacturer problem according to the rest of vehicles included in the recalls, then she told me she checked my vehicle VIN number again and that repair was done, but my car is just giving me that problem constantly. What can I do.

As I was driving in the middle lane of the 3 northbound lanes of u. S. 23, the engine suddenly stalled. I was going about 62 mph. I activated my emergency flashers, shifted the automatic transmission to neutral, and shut off the ignition key. I then turned the ignition key to restart the engine and it restarted. This is about the 5th time this has happened in the past 5 months. This vehicle should be included in gms ignition recall!!!.
I was driving my gas gage needle went all the way down,& only comes up when I actually start the vehicle. Thanks let me know please who will fix this, if there's a recall I called the dealer where I bought this vehicle and they said thereus no recalls at this time hoffman SAAB hartford ,CT.
Was at a stop sign, vehicle suddenly cut off, had plenty of gas. Tried to start, it wouldn't about 10 min. Passed and tried again, it started. Thought it was just a fluke. Went on about my business. About 2 weeks later, I was driving and it cut off, waited about 10 min. Again. It started. This time I took it to the shop and explained the situation. The tested it and nothing came up. Alternator was good, battery was good. This has happened about 6 more times. Took it to another shop, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Not sure what it could be now. Anyone else having this problem?.
The contact owns a 2004 SAAB 9-3. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the fuel filter had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and VIN was not available.

I first noticed a difference in how my car worked about a year and a half ago. I purchased it certified pre-owed from a certified SAAB dealer at the time. When I first noticed the "cold-starts" I thought it was just normal wear and tear and maybe needed an oil change. I always use premium gasoline and get the vehicle serviced regularly by the dealer. When I took it to the dealer in the beginning of 2014, the technician said he's familiar with the problem that I was having. He says the issue is with the compression valve. He told me that I was "unlucky" that I purchased this car because SAAB manufactured 2007-2009 9-3 model engines where the valves were made of weaker metals that when surrounding metals. As the edges of the valves impact the engine walls, their original convex designed became concave, thus causing a loss in pressure and combustion. (I'm not an engine savvy guy, so please excuse my lact of terminology). So, he quoted me about $3,000 for a valve replacement. That's rediculousness! how can gm produce a vehicle whose valves will deteriorate after normal wear and tear? this has led to not only cold starts but also decreased responsiveness on the highway. Sometimes when driving, I would apply the accelerator and my car shakes for a few seconds. When giving a ride to others they look at me like, "that's not supposed to happen. " my car hasn't stalled or shut off while driving, but I'm guessing if I don't get this fixed soon it may happen. There is a safety issue that I'm sure gm is aware of; accordingly, there needs to be a recall to get this issue resolved.
Vehicle stalled during a right turn at slow speed.
I have a 2006 SAAB 9-3 aero. My engine light has come on. I have tried to get this serviced several times. Each time the dealership/other mechanic resets the codes and tells me there is nothing wrong. Now they tell me it is a evaporator canister purge valve. They tell me that the part costs $425. No labor included. I have found this part for under $45. This is crap!!! I have even found tutorials on how to do it, 1 hour job. I have been trying to get this fixed since it was under warranty two years ago. Now they find the problem? a little suspicious if you ask me!.
The vehicle will become almost immobile in first and second gear (manual transmission). Once in third gear, performance is back to normal. If driver is not aware of situation (cruise light off is only indication if cruise control system is turned on), driver can easily get into bad situation as car will not perform as usual (very significant degradation of performance). All that is needed to reset problem is to turn the key off and restart the engine and the condition will go away for as little as 10 minutes or up to as much as 2 hours of driving. It is suspected that this problem could be associated with the air mass sensor as replacing air mass sensor with used part, problem disappeared for several months. This condition could cause a serious safety issue if driver is not aware and tries to make a quick maneuver involving tight traffic (left turn when performance is paramount). Whatever this condition is that the electronics/engine controls is/are entering is unacceptable and this problem needs to be corrected by the manufacturer in a recall.
Purchase date Feb 12, 2003. Engine light went on after car shook a bit immediately after starting car. Told cause was "miss firing" taken to dealer. Problem resolved.
