The passenger seat airbag light indicating that it is off comes on whenever the vehicle is started, regardless of occupancy in the passenger seat. Also, the 'air bag problem' indication, along with a warning 'beep' comes on at the same time, on the dash display unit. This can be removed by pressing the proper button on the steering wheel, allowing the odometer to be seen. To my knowledge, you have not asked for a recall, and I see no TSB's about this apparently widespread problem in 2007 Saturn Auras. Ours has heated seats, which, I understand will make the repair more difficult and expensive. This is another example of gm's inappropriate means of cutting costs in safety related areas, such as the ignition switch troubles incurred on the 2005 ion.
My air bags go on and off every few days ! also when I think the car in park its not sometimes I have to hit the switch put in park . Check engine light been on and off since I got the car .
The "service air bag" light comes on at times while I am driving my car. Also, the passenger airbag light will switch to "off" (airbag is turned off) even when there is an adult passenger in the seat. It will at times switch back to "on" then switch back to "off" while the passenger remains seated. Several times I have taken the car to a gm dealer and they tell me that since the car is out of warranty I will have to pay about $1,000. 00 to have both air bag problems fixed. Since this is a safety issue, I googled the internet to find out how common this problem is and I was surprised at how many Saturn Aura owners there are with the same problems. Yet, the service dept. At the gm dealer will not acknowledge the fact that there is a widespread problem with the air bags not working on the Saturn Auras. Recently, it was announced that gm was recalling millions of chevy impalas going back to 2003 because of passenger air bag problems. If gm has to recall 2003 impalas then they should also recall & fix 2007 Saturn Auras with air bag problems - peoples lives are at stake in both cases.
When an adult (over 100 pounds) sits in front passenger seat the light on the dash indicating the passenger air bag is on/off switches from on to off and back on etc. The timing between an on to off episode varies from seconds to many minutes. Thus passenger not protected by airbag. Took car to Buick/GMC dealer and they replaced parts dealing with the weight sendor in the from passenger seat: they are: 20824277 module kit 19118733 connector (required because above module was redesigned) 25864887 heater cost over $1000. 00.
2007 Saturn Aura. Consumer writes in regards to passenger air bag status light malfunction. The light indicated the passenger airbag was "off", came on at times when there was an adult passenger in the seat. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer three times without a resolution. He contacted general motors about the problem, and their answer was take it back to the dealer. The consumer stated there could be a safety issue. He researched the internet and found the problem was reported numerous times on this model as well as other gm models. The consumer stated to remedy the situation, he must stop the car, turn ignition switch off, and re-start the vehicle. Updated 04/16/14.

A few seconds after passenger exits, the chimes go off and "service airbag soon" indicators light up and remain on til vehicle is turned off. Vehicle was not put into park when dropping the passenger off, and doors were unlocked from switch. This happened on two occasions.

The service department of a former Saturn dealer diagnosed the problem as a "short in the passenger presence module. " technician stated the air bag on passenger side would likely not deploy in the event of an accident. Repair involving replacement of the "switch" was made at a cost of $717.
