Equipment Problems of Saturn Aura - part 1

My car gear shift slides through the gears but wont shift out of park. Something is wrong with the transmission shift cable. I see an active recall for this exact problem on my type of car (NHTSA 14v224) but for some reason my VIN isn’t showing up.

Water is leaking into the passenger compartment to the point of pooling, I am constantly having to shop vac water out but, I feel this could lead to the floor pan rusting out and the seats falling through the floor. This is a gm TSB issue so, gm knows about the problem. There are many other Saturn Aura owners who have experienced this issue.

Stuck in drive something to do with the shifter cable have to use the emergency brake to stop the car and if shut off it wont start back up.

Transmission fluid leaking and sometimes doesn’t want to accelerate.

My abs, traction control service, and esc service warning lights came on everytime I started my car for about a week and they kept shutting themselves off and on every now and again. Now none of those service lights come across my dashboard and none of my fuses are bad. I found a recall for my car, that applies to my vehicle but its not showing up when I put in my VIN number.

Shift cable broke off while driving. Vehicle has been diagnosed by mechanic for broken transmission shift cable by personal mechanic. There are no warning lamps or messages on dash . There is a current recall for this problem. My VIN number is not coming up for recall.

I pulled into a driveway and when I came out the power steering wasn't working at all. I had no warning about this, it just happened. Now it is happening every day and several times a day. The steering wheel shakes while I'm idling and shakes and pulls when driving. I had no problem or any kind of warning that this was going to happen. I am 58 yrs old and my mother is 85 yrs old and we share the car. I can barely steer it when it goes out, there is no way my mom could turn the wheel. . It first happened when I was parked, when I came out and started the car it was not working at all. The next several times it has gone out it's usually while driving and after having to make some tight turns or u-turns. Today it went completely out while I was driving slowly on the interstate.

Car reads service ecm, reduced engine power, service traction. Throttle body has been replaced, but the previous issues occurred. Car seems to want to stall. Upon reducing speed to slow down. Then when I try to accelerate, I cant accelerate when engine is still on. Car will idle up and down and reduce power. If car is in park for a few minutes, error messages stated above will also appear. Car reduced engine power on highway while at 60mph, hard to steer. Car will hesitate when slowing down to make turns at reduced speed.

My power steering is gone.

Head light stopped working then when I tried to start car again would turn over try or anything starter was checked battery and alternator checked if it ever cranks can't turn off or it won't crank again for 2 plus hours checked relays seems as if it may be wire shortened out when won't crank.

Ets or etc comes on randomly when it's wet and rainy traction control comes on constantly brakes are sticking trouble shifting gears power steering locked up has to have the power steering pump changed I recently bought this 08 Aura and approximately 1month of having it the front passenger wheel broke off including control arm throwing myself in the car into the other lane of traffic almost causing an accident very terrifying also when the power steering pump went out and it broke the serpentine belt had to have that changed along with power steering pump oil leak low tire pressure checked light constantly on traction control light comes on and off constantly ectecs light comes on constantly bakhtar spend constantly when trying to go uphill like there is no traction when parking brake is applied all wheel steel spin as if the brake is not applied brake rotors and brake pads where wear out very often back brake caliber problems transmission seeming to slip years rpms are fluctuating core having problems exhilarating in the previous boxes to check axing what was wrong with the vehicle I was only allowed to pick three I have more than three to complain about suspension steering wheels abs system abs light comes on and off constantly every day fuel system and lighting lights come on by there self brake lights do not work or work when they want to fuel system is burning a lot of gas for no reason no acceleration from stop rpms fluctuating dashboard lights cut on and off cruise will not disengage tire sensor light comes on constantly every day all day.

Today while getting off the freeway my car wheels started to shake and then my car wouldn't go and take care of first I thought it was a flat tire but when I try to drive it it wouldn't go like it was stuck in neutral. Tried to turn it off and back in drive but no luck. I'm thinking it's the transmission linkage but then again I don't know.

Failure of the wave plate. My vehicle has only 82,000 miles and the wave plate is failing. I'm unable to reverse and the gears shift while driving. This is a known issue in gm cars and they refuse to repair. Unfortunately, a single special bulletin was sent out and my vehicle met the criteria for mileage but was 5 months pass the 10 year mark. Since this is a known issue all vehicles should be recalled and a fix should be implemented or a reimbursement provided to others due to their negligence in design. This is a safety issue and causes the vehicle to do hard shifts while driving. My son, 16 years old, was driving and due to his inexperience he could have had an accident because the vehicle became difficult to drive.

When driving, the car gets stuck around 35 mph. It's like the transmission doesn't go to the next gear. It revs like it wants to and even starts bucking. Sorry I don't know the technical terms for this problem. It has happened a few times now with no warning. Almost got rear ended once. The date I entered below is today's date. It's the most recent that it's happened.

Gear shift cable was recalled a few tears back and I took it to the shop to have it fixed. In August 2018 it broke again. I was leaving work and putting my cat in reverse and the cable broke and was stuck in reverse, I paid for it to be fixed. In less than a year (April 2019) it has broken again, doing the same thing, moving my cat from a parking spot and the cable broke and once again stuck in reverse. I can't get any information un regards to why it keep happening. Any information would be great. . . .

No air bad deployment at all. My 21 year old son was killed. Ignition keeped cutting off.

Transmission jumps from 1st to 2nd gear and will not accelerate.

I would not even fill out this form if the things I am about to write down did not happen at such an unexplained and with extreme progression. The car started off with just a wobble and a jerk. Which now has progressed to the traction light popping on and off; the car sways from side to side so dangerously it is now almost not drivable; the passenger side tire has started to flatten and wear and tear very fast, even after getting brand new tires, now all of the tires are starting the same wear and tear; when accelerating it starts to jerk and lock up not going over a certain speed limit even if you floor the pedal until it lurches forward; the break lights were also staying on and then turning off when we pressed the brakes, we got that fixed at the dealership though; the car is completely falling apart; we took the batteries out of the key chains and the car door still lock and unlock by themselves; the steering wheel doesn't seemed to be aligned or straight. Like if if you want to keep the wheel somewhat straight (a straight line is now almost impossible with this car) then you have to angle it kind of the left. Its so dangerous now to drive this car. The whole thing fell apart at once. And all of these problems happen while moving. While the car is in parked and also while its turned completely off. That only with the locks unlocking and locking. And the speeds at which im going when the other problems are happening are no more than 35 miles per hour. ;' I know that we take very good care of the car and have all the service reports . Something is not right with my car.

I just saw that my car is on a list for recall.

Power steering, traction control, power inside car comes on and off.

When I shut the front driver or passenger side door they won't stay shut. This only happens if you open the door from the inside. It started with the driver side door first now its both front doors. To get it to shut you have to oil the outside handle like your going to open the door. This is very unsafe!!!! sometimes also the doors won't unlock with the car in park or if I turn the car off.

I tried pulling my car out of my garage and my car got stuck in drive and will not shift to any other gear. And since it's stuck in drive it will not start back up.

In parking lot. Started car, put in reverse. Felt like it wasn't going to stop. Then gear shift went loosely back and forth. Had it towed and repaired. Said it was a clip came off. Repaired transmission cable.

I took my vehicle in for an "electric power steering assist" recall. Drove it there, but had to tow it off because the shift cable broke. It will not shift into any gear, just stuck in drive. Also wont start now I assume because it wont go in park. The lock buttons/ windows dont work either.

On three separate occasions going at slow speeds, I step on the braks and the car jumps and go at a high speed when I am in traffic. In happens when the traffic is slow and then begins to move. The last occasion resulted in my car being totaled. It always the front end.

Broken gear shiftts. Put car in reverse to park and car shit off gear shift went loosely back and forth. Car rolled back on it's own potentially causing an accident. Gear shift broken. Car engine would not start. I put key in ignition and it lit up dashboard and windows let up and down but vehicle didn't move.

My tire problem.

I am 80 years old and everybody is trying to get my hard earned money. Yesterday January 26, 2018, I bought a 2008 Saturn Aura. When I got home and took time to go through the paperwork. I found information about 2 recalls. I checked the net and found two more. Some of these make the car unsafe to drive. I need help that will help me return this car to the car lot I bought it from. I e-mailed both the local auto nation car dealer and general motor headquarters in detroit michigan. Gm may not fix the care since some of these recalls go back to 2012.

While my daughter was driving on a city street utica road and gratiot in roseville mi the engine shut off without any warning. Luckily no one was behind the car when it shut off or on the freeway at the time or it could have been a bad situation or accident. The car would not start back up just clicking in ignition when turning key in the ignition. Had to call for a tow at 10pm. Shop said something went wrong with timing chain and compression test showed no compression in cylinder 4 possibly bent valves. I recently received a letter from gm regarding a condition when increased resistance in the body control module resulting in voltage fluctuations or intermittency in the brake apply sensor dated March 2017.

When I bought the car last year the dealership said they installed brand new brakes but they where still squeaking so I just thought it was because of the new brakes but a month later my brakes and rotors and calipers were completely gone it costed me $1200 to replace them but then 2 months later again it started doing the same thing my brakes wore down completely so I asked my uncle to look at them and change them for me so he did and now my brakes are doing the same thing they grind very loud and squeak and I didn't buy no cheap brakes either they where top performance brakes another problem I had what's my control module in my transmission went out as I was driving on the high way my speedometer wasn't working and my car moved slowly and made a loud noise so I replaced it and it's working for now then my doors won't unlock I'll hit the unlock button in the car and the key chain but my back door on the drivers side does not unlock and my driver door does the same occasionally I have to pull the lock to unlock it and I've had my tires balance rotated and all that more than once but for some reason my front tires wear down fast I've went through 2 sets of front tires but my back tires are still good.

Car will not pass smog due to code p0017 so I took it twice for repair and check engine light is still on. Tech said an engine flush may fix the problem but it didn't work so the next thing is the crank shaft timing chains which will cost over $2,000 to fix. Car has less than 93,000 and I have seen alot of complaints for the same issue. Will a recall be issued soon.

My trunk button only works on occasions and 2 of my door won't lock or unlock if it's hot outside. If it's cold all my doors work. It's crazy! I have to walk around my car locking all my doors. Although locked or not the alarm will go off. I have had to change my water pump 2 times in this car. I took it in for brakes & they're saying it needs to be changed again! there's no way I should be doing this. The water pump was changed twice by an actual dealership. This car has serious issues especially in the heat!.

While driving 55 on a busy two lane highway the vehicle dinged and read service traction control on console, immediately the it flashed engine power reduced and engine disabled and my car lost all power and I was unable to get it all the way off the road due to the uphill incline - the car behind me shot out into oncoming traffic and almost caused a major multiple car pile up. The car restarted after sitting a few minutes with reduced engine power for the first twenty miles - I could top out at about 45 and hear an electrical engagement sound. I took it to the dealership but the traction control and engine lights were gone by the time I got there and it was back up to power. I was told it was likely a sensor on the brake pedal and they had to order the part. It has disabled on me about five times now without warning and does so at any speed. It started this before any other problems with the vehicle, specifically as I lost traction on some icy snow and spun the tires a few times when the car had 50,000 miles on it. Before the traction control was addressed I had to replace the engine as the timing chain and cam actuators failed at 210 k. We somehow forgot about the tc problem and three days into driving with a new engine the car disabled again stating service traction control.

My transmission went out suddenly on the tex-express toll road in dallas, going 75 mph (the posted speed limit) on a narrow 2 lane overpass in the dark hours of the morning. There were previously no mechanical problems then suddenly I was going about 45 miles an hour. I managed to get off the overpass without an accident but my car would not shift to higher gears and upon parking it I discovered it wouldn't go in reverse either. My mechanic said that the wave plate broke and tore out the rest of the transmission. Other gm cars from my year had their wave plates part of a voluntary recall, however my VIN is not listed as an affected unit. I'm concerned the problem may be more wide spread than originally reported.
