The car doesn't always want to release the key. I have to stick my finger up in the column to push the little button to release it which is not convenient at all. It seems to do it if the wheels aren't completely straight. But still even with the steering wheel straight, sometimes it wont come out if its on a slight hill. Ive had a new key made and it makes no difference, no check engine light and auto technician said the ignition looks fine. Ive read tons of reports like this on the 2004 Saturn Ion 2-why isn't this being addressed?.

The steering wheel just stopped. It stiffened up as if the car was turned off while I was driving nearly causing me to crash. I took the car to the dealership to ask them to consider repairing the problem based upon the fact that there are so many (400,000 Saturn Ions on the road) complaining of the same problem. GMC told me that since the vehicle has no recall; they could not repair my car.
While on a neighbor hood driving at approx. 35 mph I steering while was difficult to turn and then locked itself in straight position. It is parked next to home on city curb side.
The power steering stops working while you are driving without notice . When you are truning it is hard, also the bearing and struts are also very ruff. Almost had a wreck when turing.
I purchase this car on 04/12/2018 from a local dealer, everything worked fine, until 2 days later. I was driving on the highway when suddenly the steering became hard to turn. No power steering at low speed or after more than 5 minutes driving. Very hard to steer. No control of the car.
After stopping at an intersection and preparing to turn left, the car could not steer to the left. As he car drifted forward the steering became easier and the car was able to negotiate the turn. As the car picked up speed, the steering appeared to be normal until approaching another 90 degree right hand turn (1/2 mile away from the stop in which it was hard to turn). Not knowing what was happening with the vehicle, he slowed down to negotiate the right hand turn and the car failed to steer right leading him straight thru and into an oncoming vehicle. This vehicle was in the shop one week after we purchased it to have the ignition switch replaced. After having the ignition switch replaced the problem with the steering occurred. There was much damage done to the car and our insurance picked up the cost of the other drivers damages. This was our sons first car and a terrible experience. The car was towed by gm to a dealership that deamed the car safe. He said that the steering shaft was rusty which caused the accident. We had a claim thru gm due to the steering recall and they denied us since the dealership that looked at the car deemed it to be safe. We took it to another garage that told us that it is not safe and not to put our son back in it until we speak to you about how to move forward. The vehicle can be replaced, but our son cannot!!! he was very lucky that the accident was not more severe. We will not put him or anyone else back in that car if nothing is done to prevent it again. We don't feel that it's our financial responsibility to have the parts replaced. Please let us know if there are any options available to us in regards to this situation. We are dissatisfied with gm and the dealer that said the car was safe. Our sons life is at stake and the poor decisions of the dealership and gm have created a potentially critical situation. Thanks.

Talked to service dept of anthony Chevrolet on 12/12/2014 about the recall on my Saturn was told it would be about 7-10 days to get the part and they would call to make apt to repair the steering. Called back after about 1 month and not hearing back was told there was a supply problem. I stopped by the service dept today 2/16/2015 and was told gm would not send them the part for some reason and I would need to go to a dealer in a different town for this recall. Per the letter I received I could take my Ion t o any gm dealer to have the recall work performed. I do not have the time to take the car out of town to have the recall work performed. Please advise what I'm to do.
Was on way home car started going to the right and when tried to correct it car wouldn't turn left kept going into a tree and car is now damaged. Over two months ago gm sent out somebody to look at car this was around October 15 and have not heard a word back from anybody. Which isn't a surprise because the accident happened September 13 and we were given the run around from the beginning. Appointments made and not kept, phone calls transferred from one person to another all with different answers and responses. My question to you is when is somebody going to contact us and give us some answers? I took the car in for the first call back and had no problems but this is ridiculous, not only has nothing been done or said but the air bags didn't even go off but the car had to be towed away and the adjuster you sent out said he didn't know why as we were told it was because it was between the censors. I wasn't born yesterday but didn't say anything was waiting for the report. Still waiting, I know we live in a rural area but three months is a little long to wait don't you think?.

While traveling approximately 15 mph to make a turn, the steering suddenly stopped and was unable to complete the turn. The vehicle's driver side front tire struck the curb and went up on the curb. This resulting in serious damage to undercarriage. (axle broke). Had knowledge of the recall and the local dealership has not had the parts to fix the steering/ignition.

07/06/2014 - as I was driving in a parking lot, I, all of a sudden, heard the warning sound and noticed that my steering wheel got stiff making it much more difficult to steer. I looked at my dashboard to see "pwr str" flashing on my dashboard. I pulled up on the side of the lot, parking perpendicular to the lines in the parking lot as it was impossible to turn into a parking space with my steering wheel problem. This power steer issue came up again today (07/26/2014) as I was driving home in a fairly busy street. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder this time. But this problem has happened to me 4-5 times in a span of 20 days.
The contact owns a 2004 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, a chime sounded and followed by a complete loss of power steering. The warning indicator also illuminated during the steering malfunction; however, the contact continued to drive the vehicle. After the vehicle was turned off and restarted the vehicle operated normally. There was a related recall under NHTSA campaign id number 14v153000 (steering) however, the part was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Updated 8/19/cn.
Took my Saturn in yesterday for the recall on the ignition switch-got a phone call from the dealer saying that the housing for the switch also needs replacing, but gm will not cover it and I need to pay for that part and the labor. The switch can not be replaced unless this housing is replaced, but now they want me to pay for it even though the recall says this should be at no cost to me. I called gm and they are saying that the housing is not covered in the recall. According to the recall information, I should be able to get reimbursed for having to replace the switch, but first I had to replace it again, which is what I was trying to do. What can I do about this? it does not make since to me. Have me do the recall and then attach a charge for it because you can not do it unless you replace something else. Is the not a problem of a "causal part"? if this not a problem for your agency, please refer me to an agency that can handle this. I am currently awaiting more information from the gm dealer, fremont Chevrolet. As of now, they have my Saturn torn apart and are "thinking" of what they can do for me.

My car war just repaired for the recall ignition, however, it is still not working right. Not only that, but the power steering is going off and on. The power steering went off twice on my way home after I picked it up from the dealer, almost causing an accident. I had to pull to the side of the road twice. I contacted the dealer, but they show nothing on the power steering. This is the only vehicle my family has, and I'm afraid to drive the car. Iit is not safe! I have had files open since 2008 about the power steering, and other issues. Saturn is aware of the issues. I have had to have the power steering replaced twice.

My Saturn has had problems with the a/c unit the dial has gotten to were it won't work and the defrost doesn't work. It has been like that for about 7 yrs. My has car has cut off on me twice. Once this year and last year. Now the most recent one was on April 25 2014. It was around 3:30 pm. Here in richmond va it was a really bad thunder and lighting storm. I started to smell a burning smell, the brakes were acting strange I was able to stop at stop light and while I was a red light I heard a high pitched beeping sound and the warning lights came on. My car was towed. And the henrico county beat aaa to pull it to royal chevy. The cops had my placed at impound lot. And I finally did it towed to royal chevy on April 26 2014. Royal chevy has agreed to pay for my rental. I saw on this website there are 10 recalls on here and gm has only told me about 2 of the recalls not of the other 8.
I was driving along and suddenly, the power steering stopped working. Was in the passing lane moving back into the travel lane when without warning there was no power steering. No alarms went of warning me something was not working properly. I was able to get off the highway but had a harder time making turns on the side streets. I have never before heard of the problems that are suddenly affecting y car.
