The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per an unknown ignition recall. As a part of the repair, a new ignition key was provided. After the repair, the contact was still able to use the old ignition key, but continued to use the replacement key instead. The vehicle began experiencing a failure with the new ignition key as it would not eject from the ignition when the vehicle was turned off. The failure caused the vehicle's battery to die and the vehicle to become inoperable. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 384,027.

The dealer replaced the ignition switch, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. After the vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 14v171000 (electrical system), the key would become stuck in the ignition. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired again and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 45,000.
The key to this vehicle is stuck in the ignition and will not turn off. This vehicle had this ignition replaced due to a similar issue in 2010 by a gm dealer in ourisman Chevrolet Buick (703) 329-1300 1800 old richmond highway, alexandria, va 22303-1856. The original part became defected for the same issue and I had to pay over $700 to have the part replaced. Now, the same issue has occurred. The key is stuck in the ignition and unable to turn off the car. I contacted general motors (Saturn) at 1-800-553-6600 to report the problem and they are aware this has been happening. However, the is no recall to correct this measure. To turn the car off you have to disconnect the wires or replace the part for another $900. If gm (Saturn) is aware of the problem a recall should be posted to all owners of the Saturn Ion and reimbursement should be provided for owners who had paid to have the part replaced.
After I park my 2007 Saturn Ion the ignition remains locked, it doesn't let me take out my key after the vehicle is off. I have to restart my car then turn it off again and wait about 2-5 minutes for my key to release.
When I shut off my car, the ignition will not release the key. This happens every other time I use the car. Extreamly frustrating. Also needed to replace the front passenger side wheel bearing assy.
Key stuck in ignition, car will not turn off. Key will only turn on. Car is at gm dealer now awaiting repairs. They say it needs a new cylinder housing, cylinder and key. Car has 57,800km. Also in the past the car slipped out of gear (1st) even when the emergency brake is engaged. The first time it rolled down a driveway and hit the mail box, which damaged to back bumper. Dealer would not check into it. Claimed it was driver error. Bs I have driven a standard vehicle for 35 years in hills. Third problem is the gears. They are too tight. Always was difficult to put into gear, sometimes to put it into first one must put it in reverse first then put into 1st gear. What kind of nonsense is that? complained to dealer within the first year. Dealer said other customers have complained about the tight gears but that was the way it was built and to wait and see if it naturally became easier. From researching the internet the key getting stuck and not turning off appears to be a common problem. A recall should be issued and gm should pay for the repairs.
While out shopping pulled in to park at a mall. Went to turn key to off position and it would not move. Vehicle continued to run as normal, with doors locked and in "park". It could not be shut down. Broke out the owners manual and tried all the handy advice. None of which worked. Being a mechanic of 30+ years this was frustrating. No clear cut definition as to what was the cause. Just " it might be this", and to take to your nearest Saturn dealer for servicing. Upon returning home began investigating the "ignition key" problem online. I've had no real issues with this 2007 Saturn Ion quad coupe that I could not remedy myself. A 2. 2 liter fuel injected engine w/auto transmission that to date continues to provide 30-32 mpg. Car now has 92,000 miles. The answers that I found online were staggering. That this event has been allowed to occur over such a length of time and to several gm models. If the ignition had locked backwards due to such an internal break instead of locking it into the "run" position. I or anyone could have been killed if vehicle was moving at the time. Especially if travel was on a major interstate or thruway environment. I am not trying to overlook that at any speed . . . This is not a safe event to have occur. Did contact a gm dealer locally. . They stated that for $85. 00 , we'll run diagnostics. An ignition cylinder problem does not show on any diagnostic tester to my knowledge. Was then advised that at around $300. 00 to start: they will be able to fix it. Since 1990 gm has been aware of this issue along with other ignition concerns. When does it begin to matter? after someone is killed or critically injured?.

The current mileage was 58,000 and the failure mileage was 54,000.
When placing vehicle in park, the doors remain locked and key cannot be removed from ignition. Took vehicle to chevy dealer for repair and they said my factory warranty was expired. I currently have 22,500 on vehicle and I purchased the vehicle on 1-1-2008 as a new vehicle at the dealership. I am being told by Saturn customer service that the warranty went into effect in 2006 on the day that my vehicle "was delivered" to dealership and over a year before I ever owned it! what a scam!.
I own a 2007 Saturn Ion and have been experiencing an ignition problem. Everytime I park my car and turn the key to shut it off it gets "stuck". No matter how I park, wiggle it, etc. . It gets stuck then I have to sit there anywhere from 30sec-hours before it will release. I brought it to my local Saturn authorized service department (1hr away) and they could not find anything wrong they told me it must be spilt soda in the shifter and cleaned the inside of my shifter and charged $90. To only drive an hour home and have it keep happening! Saturn will not help and my warranty expired. I did some research online and thousands of people have the same problem. Shouldn't this be a recall?.

2007 Saturn Ion 2 does not allow key to pulled out of ignition.
2007 Saturn Ion. Happened on September 7, 2010. Put key in ignition, start the car, however the car could not be turned off. The key was stuck in ignition and car had to be taken to dealership. Car was taken to lockhart Cadillac in greenwood, indiana. I was told that this is not under warranty or a recall, however I have read many complaints online where Saturn customers are having this same problem. While dropping the car off at the dealership, not only was I told that it was not warranty or a recall I was also told by them that this is happening with a lot of Saturn Ion's and that it would be between $500-$600. Cost seems to be a bit steep for something that Saturn, or gm, should be covering because it is clearly a recall problem.
Key stuck in ignition. Car stuck running. What an unsafe situation, in high 90 degree weather. Thank goodness my elderly grandmother was not in the car with me! roadside assistance had to come and turn it off by taking off a fuse in the hood, before towing it to the dealer. I burned my hand trying to disengage the fuse, before roadside assistance got there, because I was feeling sick standing outside in the 99 degree weather waiting. The dealer had to replace the ignition lock cylinder and housing, and I had to get a new key made at the Saturn dealer. I googled this problem, and found over 48 pages of complaints. I sure hope that there is a recall on this issue, as this presents an obvious safety problem. Hopefully Saturn drivers will not get stranded in extreme hot, cold, or dangerous conditions, with their key stuck in the ignition. The exact same problem happened with my twin sister 1 week before it happened to me. Both of us bought our 2007 Saturn Ions new, on the same date. This is more than "a coincidence. " we feel as though this part of the car must have been defective. It is not a "typical, routine maintenance" type thing that should need to be replaced on a car that is only 4 years old. It presents a serious safety issue, depending on the circumstances of when it occurs.
My 2007 Saturn Ion was stuck running with the key stuck in the ignition. I could not turn off my car and the key was stuck. The Saturn dealer replaced the ignition lock cylinder and housing and cut new keys.
Key becomes stuck in ignition - owner unable to turn vehicle off. Had to pull the fuse in order to shut the vehicle off and tow.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The keys were stuck in the ignition and would not turn the engine off. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic who stated that the lock cylinder broke into several pieces and needed to be replaced for $400 and was not covered by the warranty or recall. The Saturn manufacturer was notified but there was no answer. The failure and the current mileages were 53,711.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated the key would intermittently fail to release from the ignition. On one occasion, she was unable to shut off the vehicle due to the key being resistant to movement. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where the contact was awaiting a diagnosis of the failure. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 33,000. Updated 09/09/10. The ignition cylinder was replaced. Updated 09/14/jb.
My husband and I were going to the movies. Once we arrived, my husband tried to turn the car off and it would not shut off. He kept working on the key and the key came out but the car kept running. We drove back home with out the key in the ignition to see if my key would shut if off. It didn't so we went to the dealership and had to leave it there to be worked on Monday. This is the first and only time this has happened. We are anticipating that it will be under our extended warranty and we will not have to pay the 400. 00 dollars. I have found many other Saturns have had this problem. Therefore, way has there not been a recall? I would like to know how to get this issue on a recall.
I drive a 2007 Saturn Ion, and from what I can tell online this is a huge problem that gm has and it has not been resolved or recalled. I got home from work and went to turn the key off and it would not turn off. The key was stuck. I have talked to several gm dealers and they all say it's a well known problem but still expect me to pay around 500 dollars to fix it. I would understand if this was normal wear and tear but it's not. This is something that is defective and known about. Gm either made these intentionally this way to scam in money or really screwed up and should fix it. This could of gone a lot differently what if the car would of locked up while driving and locked out the steering wheel? something needs to be done about this and I don't know if it is all Saturns or just the Ion model but it seems to be something that has gone on for sometime. As tax payers we bailed them out of financial problems and this is how we are repaid and treated. Please make gm do a recall on the Saturn ignitions immediately. I have a 10 month old and stuff like this scares me.
The ignition key does not come out easily after the car engine is turned off. Last year, one day, the key would not turn at all and the engine kept running for about 4 hours before Saturn dealer came to shut off the engine. The dealer replaced the ignition key cylinder. But the problem persists. It is so often now that I am not driving my Saturn. I fear the key will, one day, get stuck and not come out at all. GMC have been informed.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. While driving at speeds of 70 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated. The power steering assist then failed and the contact was able to move the vehicle off the roadway. When restarting the vehicle, the power steering assist resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where unknown repairs were made. The failure did not recur. In addition, the ignition also failed and in order to shut off the engine, the battery and a fuse had to be disconnected. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis of the ignition failure. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 76,000.
I bought my car a year ago-brand new. Two days ago I pulled up to work and went to turn my car off. The key would not completely turn all the way and was stuck in the ignition. The wheel was not locked, so this was not the cause. It has been three days now and it continues to occur. It is on and off, but the fact remains that there is a clear issue. I even went online to see if this was a common problem. Apparently so. I found numerous forums and complaints from others who have purchased the same model car and have had the same issue. They also stated that when contacting the dealer, they already knew and were familiar with the exact issue. Clearly this is a defect and I have not bothered taking the car in because everyone else who has had this problem has been charged upwards of $300 and the problem has returned.
My key became locked in the ignition while my Saturn Ion2 was engaged. No matter what I tried, the key would not turn to shut the car off. I drove to a mechanic and he also had no idea how to disengage my car. I then drove a nearby Saturn dealership. The dealership was very familiar with this problem and informed me that this kind of malfunction happened often in Saturn Ions. He informed me that the only way to disengage the car when the key is locked is to open the hood of the car (while it is running) and disconnect the main fuse from the battery. He also told me that this problem has a tendency of recurring because the ignition part is defective. The Saturn mechanic fixed the ignition lock which cost a total of 330$ including part and labor.
2007 Saturn Ion. Could not turn off ignition. Ignition was locked on the on position. Could not remove key. Had to pull switch from battery to turn car off once driven to dobbs auto. Googled problem and on the consumeraffairs. Com website there are hundreds of people complaining about the same problem. Saturn should issue a recall and fix the ignition. Car is in shop now. Waiting to her how much to fix it.
Ignition lock cylinder failure. Car cannot be turned off! first occurrence 8/11/08, dealer replaced cylinder, second occurrence on 8/17/08 will be going to dealer 8/18. Research indicates this has been an ongoing problem for up to a decade!.
My complaint is in regards to my 2007 Saturn Ion. The key got locked in the ignition and would not turn off. My relative then had to pull the fuse to turn the ignition off and then disconnected the battery to turn it off. I have been having problems with the key being stuck in the ignition for the past 6 months, but I would usually turn the steering wheel or switch gears a couple of times but this was the first time it would not turn off.
Key sticks I and sometimes takes up to 5 minutes to get it out and the car is still running because I can't shut off the car.
I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion in July of 2007. About 3 months ago (if that) I had to replace my ignition cylinder because when I pulled into my drive way I could not turn the key off. A few days ago I went to the store and as I tried to turn the car off again, it would not turn. I have to purchase another ignition cylinder and have it replaced again!!! this is the second time in about 2 1/2-3 months!.
Problems with 2007 Saturn Ion ignition cylinder and park/lock interface. Vehicle frequently can not be turned off. Park/lock interface will not unlock door, when ignition turned off. Key cannot be removed from ignition.
