Three problems related to starter have been reported for the 2007 Saturn ION. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Car was parked tried to start would not start with jump. Had towed determined problem with starter. Fixed overnight drove off lot then lost power steering same night just avoided accident. Found out recalls on both total of 8 on this vehicle. Only had since 8/1/2014 never advised of any recalls on vehicle and mccafferty Ford in langhorne,PA did not offer to assist advised its not their responsibility to check recalls. Car can be driven 10-15mins then steering locks up. Have to wait for car to cool down then steering comes back, 10-15 mins same problem. There is also recalls related to air bags.
2007 Saturn Ion. Consumer states that his starter was able to allow water or salt brine into the starter during winter conditions. His vehicle left him and his three year old stranded in cold weather because of this problem. The entry of water and/or salt into the starter stopped the starter from rotating the engine.
My 2007 Saturn Ion's ignition lock cylinder is broken. Apparently this is a very common problem with Saturns, and fixing the problem once is not a guarantee that it will not need to be replaced again. When I arrived home, my car would not turn off. The key would not turn back, however, we could completely remove the key, and we could turn the key to the on position. My husband was able to turn off the car by pulling a fuse from the under the hood of the car after a little bit of research and a lot of wasted gas. We purchased a new ignition lock cylinder from the closest dealership, but that did not resolve the problem. We have now learned we also need to replace the ignition starter switch.
