3 Ignition Switch problem of the 2005 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 07/14/2018

I was driving home on a city street when I noticed my key popped out of the ignition half way, I felt my vehicle losing power, I couldn't accelerate, there was a bus coming up behind, I tried to push the key back in but was unable to move it, I couldn't accelerate and was losing power, my only option was to pull over the side of the road, it was very difficult to steer, I put my hazard lights on because I didn't know if I was going to get hit from behind, I continued to pull off the road, I had to stop the vehicle and put in park, I was very confused as to how this happened, I had to compose myself, called my mom and told her what happened, she immediately looked online for any recall issues and came across the gm ignition switch recall for Saturn Ion 2003-2007. My mom called the gm customer service, p# 800-222-1020 and informed them about the issue related recall. They show the recall was addressed on this vehicle in 2014 and said nothing they can do. She also called the dealer boucher Chevrolet of waukesha, p# 262-347-4107, where we purchased the vehicle and they would have to look at it and see if same issue otherwise we will get charged for fixing it. I took the vehicle to bergstrom Chevrolet in madison, WI where they wanted to charge me $100. 00 for fixing it even it recall related issue. I am afraid to drive my vehicle for fear of getting killed on the road when I have no control over my vehicle at high speeds. I have to commute to work on the freeway every week. If the recall has been done then why is this issue continuing to happen. Manufacturers should be made responsible to repair this issue regardless of how many times it continues. Consumers shouldn't have to pay with their life like other have done so unwillingly.

Now about 5 months ago I started smelling a faint smell of gas. . . Now its so severe I can't drive the car. It's actually dripping onto the ground. It takes 3 or more times to get it to crank. The gas mileage has gone down from 30 to nothing. From the VIN search my car isn't included in the recall for this which is ridiculous. I don't have the money to have this fixed. This is to express my frustration with dealing with classic Chevrolet in houston TX as they have no interest in assisting me with this recall. I have called them 5 times and get on a rotating hold pattern. The one time a service adviser did pick up, he hung up on me when I told him it was in regard to the ignition switch recall. Seems that I can not even order the new switch from them. I also tried to work with them through the online service scheduler and have not received any return contact in the last 3 days. I also called the gm hotline and received absolutely no help. The call was also terminated before I could speak to anyone. The recording advised to start with the nearest dealer. That has obviously not worked. Extremely frustrating in lieu of what american taxpayers have done for gm.

Some times it will stay on after starting the car and turning off at some point into the drive, or it will illuminate while driving, stay illuminated for a period of time and then shut off. Had the second recall that still impacted the key being able to be removed which required the gear shift to be replaced less than a year after the ignition switch was replaced. Since the second repair the air bag light illuminates more frequently. See many others have had the same issue since have the repairs completed. The air bag light never illuminate prior to recalls being repairs.

28 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

My car was in the general motors ignition switch recall. I took my car to the Chevrolet dealership to have it worked on. They kept it little over a month. They finally called me and said my car had been fixed and that I could come and get it. I drove my car for a couple of days and then I started hear a clicking noise in my ignition. So when I got to where I was going I switched my car off and it was making that clicking sound again. So I tried to get my key out of the ignition and it wouldn't come out. So I sat there a few minutes and I tried again and it still would not come out. So I kept switching the car off and on until I finally got the key out. So the next week I took it back to the servicers and I was told that it didn't do that with him. So he couldn't tell me what the problem was. So I took the car and left. It started doing the same thing again . So the next week I took it right back and they still didn't do anything. So I contacted the general motors headquarters and they supposed to had got back with me within 24-48 hrs. Well I didn't hear from them until about a week later when I had to called them back while I was back at the Chevrolet service center. So they finally call me back and talked to me and the service manager. So I was told to bring my car back Tuesday 9\17\14 and I did. They come telling me that it's my gear stick without putting it on a machine to see what could be the problem. So again I left with my car in the same condition and it is still making that clicking noise and my key still be hard to come out at times. When my car was there getting repaired somehow my door got messed up. Won't nothing wrong with my door when I took my car to them. Although they won't admit to it they done something to my door. They say they wasn't back there at my door but greasy hand prints are back there on the door.

I own two Saturn Ions. One in which I was having issues with the ignition switch before the recall and I already had the ignition switch replaced. The other car did not have any ignition switch issues but I thought I would do the right thing and have it done. What a mistake. . . . . . . Several years ago I had an after market remote start put in my car. After the new ignition switch was installed the remote start did not work. I was told that the dealership that did the recall was not allowed to touch the remote start system. I took the car back to where I had the remote start installed and had incurred an $80. 00 charge to relearn the new ignition switch. Am I ever going to see that $80. 00 back? I called one of your complaint phone lines and was that they were experiencing a high number of calls and that someone would get back to me within 48 hours. That never happened.

The next problem, was the key being difficult to remove from the ignition and sometimes it was difficult to insert the key into the ignition. Occasionally, the vehicle would not shut off. The consumer would have to turn the key to off and then on, which would require several attempts, to get the vehicle to turn off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, whey the shaved the keys and said that should fix the problem. As for the remote, the dealer couldn't reprogram it, and they suggested, just buying a new one. The consumer soon discovered, the problem remained the same. Also, the fuel pump had to replaced. The pump was built with plastic fuel lines molded into the top of the pump. At about 70,000, the plastic lines cracked at the top of the pump, probably due to vibration. The problem could have been avoided, by using steel lines connected to the pump, or coming off the pump with a short section of the hose. The fracture leak was small at first, but smell gas was present, but a leak could not be found, until the pressure line cracked at the point it made a puddle under the vehicle. The pump was replaced at a cost of $ 600. However, the new pump was built exactly like the failed pump.
