6 Engine Failure problem of the 2000 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 07/15/2008

Timing chain broke on 2000 Saturn l200 causing bent rods and engine failure. Saturn estimates cost of repairs to be $2000-3000. I have been reading of the current NHTSA investigation of 1999-2003 Saturns and the high occurrence of timing chain failures. I do hope something can be done for Saturn to recall affected vehicles.

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2002 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

2002 Saturn l 200 had complete engine failure while on route 197 and car stopped in middle of road and wouldn't restart. Car has about 60k miles on it. Fortunately my daughter was able to get the car off the road. Problem was found to be timing chain failure with destruction of the engine. Saturn reviewed our maintenance record, deemed it "excellent" and said it would cost me only $3500 to get a rebuilt engine put in. They refused to acknowledge any problem with timing chain. I am reluctantly going forward with repair because I can't afford a new car now, but I think this problem could lead to more serious consequences for other drivers and timing chain problem in all l200 should prompt recall.

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 07/06/2008

Engine failure, turns out that at least 1 valve is bent due to a slipping timing chain.

9 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 11/28/2007

Engine failure due to broken timing chain 2001 l2 Saturn.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2001 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 03/14/2006

While driving the engine failed and would not restart. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The car (engine) stalled, locked up and it could not be restarted. This happened at two separate instances. I replaced the entire engine with the first instance (3/14/06) and the most of it the second time (2/4/08). I was told by Saturn that our VIN # does not fall within the recall. I find it hard to believe that this a fluke when it has happened to others and me twice.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2002 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 03/12/2006

I was driving my 2002 Saturn l200 home from boston on 3-12-06 approx. 6:00 pm when the engine stopped. I had the vehicle towed home and contacted Saturn. After they examined the vehicle, they came up with the diagnosis of a failed timing chain and engine failure. I asked the technician if this was a common problem and I was told that it wasn't. I googled common problems for the Saturn l200 and broken timing chains are very common with many Saturns. Gmac even went as far as to issue tech. Bulletins about timing chain issues. Gmac knows about the high failure rate of these timing chains and has not taken appropriate measures to rectify the situation and are trying to pass the cost of repairing this defect on to their consumers.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2000 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

Engine failure, had to replace the engine at Saturn. They told me that the timing chain failed due to poor maintenance. They put a new engine in it which failed 60k miles later with the same problem.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2000 Saturn LS

Failure Date: 07/19/2000

Consumer states the oil light comes on too soon and found that the engine is using approximately 1/2 quart of oil in approximately 1500 miles, there was engine failure which caused jerking and misfiring, vehicle would not start, vehicle was smoking, dealer replaced motor mount.
