Petition for defect investigation into 2000-2002 Saturn l-series left-hand tail lamp assemblies. The tail light assembly had to be replaced 3 times. Each time the circuit board at the light socket contact had started to melt/corrode, which created a gap in the contact.
Complaint received via e-mail. Tail/stop light assembly failure on both sides began on 05/2003 with left side. Replaced socket/bulb. However, problem recurred on 06/2003, and replaced assembly at a cost of $84. 37. Replaced sockets on both sides 3 more times. Stopped by police twice, as recent as 12/2004 for no tail/stop lights on right side. The problem was with only with top socket/circuit. Service and parts manager at temple Saturn, 1-800-460-7688, was well aware of problems, and said this was a common problem only for 2000-2002 vehicles. Contacted Saturn customer assistance center, stated the problem, and was given case ref #1-14090108. Also, was told not enough complaints for them to replace at their cost. The parts and service managers at temple Saturn - heath green/chuck green could provide information. Basic problem was the circuit board which was placed with plastic hold downs melted and caused the metal to move and short out.

Headlights and dashboard lights flicker at speeds of 65-70 mph. Other electronics components do not seem to be effected.
While driving at any speed the headlights and dashboard lights dim 40-50% when the cooling fan kicks on. My drive to work in the morning is 16 miles and the lights flash sometimes 10- 15 times. This morning was around 30 times. I've had this problem with this car since I got it. I have taken it to Saturn 4 times but all they tell me is "that's the way it is designed" I wrote to the corporate office made such a complaint, they replaced my car with another at a cost to me of $675. 00. Both the first car and the replacement car do the same thing. I could not believe any car manufacturer would design a vehicle like this. My wife has a 2002 l200 also and hers does not do that. I will gladly video tape this and send you a copy of the tape. It is a hazard when your lights are flashing at the car in front of you.
While driving at various speeds, with the headlights on, the headlights and dash lights dim for no known reason, either with or without depressing the brake pedal getting the same result. Was told by Saturn dealer that this was common and nothing could be done to fix the problem. I would think that voltage regulation would be a simple thing to fix.
Back left brake light keep going out, had bulbs replaced several times. Contacted dealer. This was a result of an electrical system malfunction.
