4 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 07/19/2018

Oh boy. . . Here goes. I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook fwd. For the second time in a span if a few years, water has leaked from the sunroof and into the electrical components, fuseboxes, floors, etc. This is the infamous drainhose clogging issue that many may know about. The car now only starts when the key is removed from the ignition. The steering wheel is locked but I can shift gears and move the car backward and forward. I've cleaned up the water, grime and little larvae growing from the water intrusion. All electronics work correctly (even the butt warmer 😊) what I've tried so far: -replaced the ignition switch. -replaced the battery -checked all of the fuses of the underhood fuseboxes -checked several fuses of the under dash fusebox -threw a temper tantrum -cut my finger trying to get to impossibly placed screws -checked for recalls. Gm still does not support and take responsibility for this issue -pulled the codes. The recent ones I've gotten are: c0899, c0561, p0017, p0011 last time this happened, it cost me over $1500 to replace all of the fuses/wiring. I am frustrated, yes. No, I don't have the money to fix this yet again. But I am more amazed at how gm leaves this issue with a TSB and a grain of salt, in spite of the overwhelming evidence of this long occurring problem. I am looking for advice. Mechanical advice. Legal advice. Meditation tips. I'll take anything. "sally", as the family calls her, is how we get to work, drive the kids to school, church, playdates, visit family, and other things that families have to do and like to do. I'd like to hear from gm, too, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Instead, you'll find me somewhere inside, beneath, or on top of sally. I'll be the one covered in grease, constantly sighing and wondering about all the others who have this same issue.

10 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/29/2016

My 2008 Saturn Outlook apparently has had a defected sunroof that GMC has been tracking for years now but has not incorporated any recalls to fix it. We just moved from CA to va and are just now experiencing actual rainfall that leaks through the body of the vehicle and into the floor of the driver and passenger floorboard. I haven't experienced any electrical issues yet but I know they are coming. However, we are experiencing mildew and mold smell in the car which is not good to be inhaling for anyone in my family. My question is what is GMC doing about this!!!.

12 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/06/2016

Sporadically, water leaks from the ceiling air vents/rear view camera/ a-braces/ airbag covers and basically any other place water can come out of. I have had it to the GMC dealer 2x to look for the issue but they cannot replicate. In viewing information online (specifically edmonds. Com) it appears that this has been a well known problem since the auto was manufactured - I am just lucky that mine has been sporadic. It has not effected components of the vehicle yet, but if it keeps happening I have little doubt that there will be issues - parts corroding, electrical issues, etc. As mentioned earlier, it baffles me that there are 18 pages of identical complaints, yet the manufacturer has never been made to do anything about it - an idiot can tell that there has to be some manufacturer defect to have that # of occurences. I really don't expect anything to come of my issue, but wanted to document what has happened in case there are more serious issues later such as an accident caused by equipment failure due to water damage - it is only a matter of time before this defect causes serious harm to someone.

13 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 03/24/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Outlook. On a rainy day, the contact noticed that the rear moon roof and the front sun roof were leaking water. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

14 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

My car has problems with the prop rod recovery system. The back hatch is very difficult to raise and lower. It has fallen on me when I've been trying to carry in groceries and it almost came down on my grandson's head when he was standing next to me to help carry in the groceries. When I read an article in the business section of our local paper about a recall on 2007-2010 Saturn Outlooks with the same problem I assumed my car was recalled. At my last service at the gm dealership I asked about this recall. They looked it up and said mine wasn't part of the recall. They said it would cost $180-200 to fix it. I called the Saturn customer service line to double check whether my car was on the list. I was advised to make a formal complaint to NHTSA to hopefully have gm or whomever to extend the recall to my model since it clearly has the same issue. Thank you.

20 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

My car was just purchased 3 months ago and it is leaking water heavy into the driver and passenger compartment from the roof area into the headliner, a lot of sloshy while driving from roof area the carpet creating mold, bad odors and possible electrical issue with water dripping on defrost blower near drivers wheel well prior corrosion present there.

21 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

Purchased this 2007 Saturn Outlook in 2013 used with only around 80k miles on it. The previous owner did tell us about the leaking areas once the drains get clogged, my husband has been diligent cleaning them, but living in florida it rains heavy all the time. We noticed more and more frequently the inside dripping in the 3rd row, until many times, until this past November it rained heavy for 2 days and the water started coming thru what seemed to be from the ac vents on both rows, and through the front driver and passenger side walls very heavy, upon leaving work went to turn off the car took keys out twice and it would not shut off. So now there is the electrical areas being soaked, let it dry out cleaned drains again, and it just seems the more rain we have the more water comes in. Right now car is in garage since we had the same situation with rain and now it is dripping from everywhere. . Afraid to drive car since we know that the electrical system and wires are wet. I have a toddler whom I had to cover with a towel cause water was dripping on her. Gm needs to do something about this, before it caused a fire and could cause death too. This seems to be happening to too many families. . What are they waiting for???.

22 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/09/2014

I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook whis is leaking water in through what I assume is the sunroof. My son, who was sitting in the third row of seating (back seat) noticed water leaking from the dome light. The water was also noticed in other areas of the vehicle throughout the drive. I have also started noticing electrical issues with the vehicle not that the rain has come in as well as water stains from other such issues.

23 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

I have been noticing that my driver side and passenger side floors are getting soaked with water. This has been happening for about a month. The main problem was that my it was just above freezing and I had ice built up on the inside of my windshield and had to wait to get it to defrost and then dry the windshield before I could drive the vehicle. At first I thought the sunroof was left cracked so I took the floormats out and during the day, left the sunroof and windows open to dry out the car. This did not work or solve the problem. I took my car to a car wash today (11/9/14) and when I was leaving the lot, I was on a slight downward slope to stop before entering the street. I noticed that water was coming through the driver side a pillar where the airbag logo is at. On the passenger side, water was running down the inside of the windshield on the dash, getting the passenger wet. Very frustrated that there is no recall for the sunroof leak as general motors knows of the problem but will not fix the problem as it is due to the sunroof drains/drainage tubes.

24 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Bought this 2007 Saturn Outlook new in April 2007. . August 2008 first time I noticed floor boards on passengers side wet, took to Saturn they said the drain line was clogged, oct 2008 back to Saturn they had a campaign to extend drain lines they did this. . November 2009 the drivers side is now leaking Saturn secured the drain hose for sunroof. My car has always been garaged until oct 2014. Now that it is parked out in the elements I have a major roof leak. Took it to gm on oct 2, 2014 as I now have wet/water stains on the passengers side headliner, they said the drain was clogged fixed in 2 minutes. We had rain for a week and on oct. 24, 2014 I now noticed wet/water stains on both sides and across the windshield, under the visors and the roof panel where the interior lights and controls are for the sunroof. Take to gm dealer they say the drivers side drain hose was clogged fixed in a minute. Back to gm on Nov 15, 2014 they now say the seal around the sunroof needs to be replaced, they replace seal. Nov 17, 2014 leak is worse than ever. I have now spent $500. 00 to have a leak fixed to no avail. I have searched the internet now and see this is not an isolated incident. 100's if not 1000's of gm Saturn Outlooks with and without sunroofs have leaky roofs. It is a design flaw and gm will not own up to it. This needs to be a recall item. I am now told to spend $2,150 to replace the sunroof bucket. After reading all the horror stories about this issue I do not believe there is a fix for gm's mistake. I have a case # with gm but they don't want to hear anything. Please issue a recall on this engineed design flaw.

25 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

Water leaks into my vehicle from a variety of locations. One through the back-up distance indicator in the back of the vehicle, down the insides of the door panels onto the driver and passenger floor, and down the inside of the windshield. My car started not turning off when I would turn the ignition off with the key and pull it out. I brought it to a mechanic and he fixed 5 leaks in the sunroof drains. Now my blower motor won't work, but my car does turn off again when I want it to. Mechanic said I should bring the car back in to have all the carpet/seats taken out and completely dried out so I don't get mold under the carpet, too. Don't have the funds for all the fixes for this vehicle and the electric problems, so I'll have to do one at a time. I love the vehicle, but it's a love/hate relationship. I the leaks and the damage the leaks caused, since they are known issues, were covered under some kind of a recall.

26 Body problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

July 5, 2014: previously we would smell the scent of water that had been there for a while, but there was no evidence of where it would come from. When we left our destination it was dry, but rain was in the forecast. It began to rain heavily as we continued to drive and suddenly, I felt water on my feet. By the time I checked the floor mat, it was heavily soaked and water was flowing from the bottom right side of the passenger seat. We had to make a stop on the way home while it was still raining. When we returned to the car the passenger floor mat was even more drenched. This is a safety concern because water that is undetected and that sits for a while leads to mold, which we found. This can lead to breathing issues, especially since the vehicle doors have to stay closed. I took pictures as evidence to support this issue. I have made this issue known to Saturn customer care.

27 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

Last week we had heavy rain and rain began leaking into the car near the front pillar on the passenger side. The next day the car would not start and it appeared the battery was dead. When I had it tested it showed it needed replacement. I purchased the battery and went to have it installed. While I was there I turned the car off and the engine was still running. The technician advised that the fuse box was coroded and cleaned the connections. The car continued to remain on throughout the day until it seemed to dry out. It rained again yesterday and the same issue occurred where there was water leaking from the driver side pillar near the air bag. I noticed the car staying on one time and then the next morning the car would not start. I began researching the issue and found similar complaints from other gm users. I am concerned not only about the electrical system, but potential mold and contacted the dealer as many noted there was a service bulletin. They were unable to assist as there has not been an official recall. I would urge that this be pushed as it is another known issue with gm cars that gm refuses to do anything about: 2007 gm acadia consumer complaints odi id number specific to water leak: 10258230 (this is my complaint id #) 10255735 10254149 10248331 10211267 10210839 10210533 2008 gm acadia consumer complaints odi id number specific to water leak: 10246694 10243591 10241649 10230134 10229896 10212682.

28 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Outlook. The contact stated that when it rained, water leaked inside the vehicle from underneath the glove box compartment, driver's visor, sun roof, and the rear exterior accessory light. The contact discovered mold growing on both front doors and the front passenger floor. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the failure was due to an air conditioner malfunction. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact stated that the air conditioner then failed completely. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

29 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

Power train warranty expired 11/1/13 and now my Outlook won't go reverse, 3rd or 5th, check engine light illuminated, I'll take it tomorrow to the dealer and find out if it's the same problem everyone has been having with the tcm or if it's the reverse clutch plate (waved). I also have the other common problem with the leaky sunroof, water comes down the driver floor board by the parking brake. This is my first gm and it looks to me like it's going to be my last. I'm going back to Toyota! I wish I had known all of these problems, I would had never bought this SUV if I knew this info exist online, live and learn! I can't believe gm knowingly allows these problems go on and won't do anything to correct it.

30 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

10/12/13 we had several inches of rain & the next morning I noticed the floor boards were wet. Again, the evening of 10/15 we had severe rain storms with flooding in our city. The next day when my mil & I got into vehicle the floor boards were soaked. When we put our seat belts on they too were wet. I took the vehicle to a body shop on 10/16 & have a statement that it would be a costly repair, mold was present & he stated it was not recommended that I drive it due to possible electrical problems. On 10/23 I picked the vehicle up from the body shop & noticed the mold on the headliner of the passenger side & driver side floorboard. I immediately called the dealership (covert Buick) where I purchased the vehicle & told them I would be bringing the vehicle to them first thing in the morning. 10/24 I attempted to start the vehicle & it would not start. I called the dealership & spoke to the service manager tom. He sent a tow truck out to bring the vehicle to the dealership. Prior to the tow truck arriving I cleaned out all my personal belongings & upon doing so I found that the third row cup holder had standing water in it & mold was growing in it also. Upon arriving to the dealership tom stated he "got me a loaner vehicle approved by [xxx], they usually don't do this" & told me I would "likely not hear from them until wed, 10/30 as they were very busy". I did not hear from tom until fri, 11/1 at 3pm. I returned his call at 5pm & he explained that they assessed my vehicle & it would cost me $1900 for repairs. "there were leaks found & water damage caused a short in the battery. " I then explained that I did not feel this was something I should have to pay to get fixed as I had just purchased the vehicle from them. Asked him to escalate to his manager & get back to me. I received a call from tom 11/4 stating covert was not going to pay for the damage. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

31 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

Our Saturn Outlook has had problems that have accumulated more recently that include the steering box failing (audible popping when near neutral steering position), the electronic stability control and brake simultaneous lights with feedback in the brake pedals (even when abs is not active), and a very annoying weather/water leak from an unknown source that is soaking the passenger carpet after every single rain. None of these items were covered under warranty, and I'm returning the car for the second time tomorrow to the dealership to investigate the leak (again) and the stability control. I already replaced the steering box, out of pocket, for over $1000. We just paid the car off and bought it new in 2008. It barely has 50,000 miles on it, and this is not a quality product. The ride, handling, interior features/space are outstanding, but there are too many faults for such a new(er) car. I also replaced the water pump a few months ago, but that was at the tail end of my warranty (now expired). After only 5 years and 50,000 miles, I'm looking at expensive monthly payments for a new vehicle to replace what should have lasted at least another 5 years comfortably without major defects. It's no wonder Saturn went out of business and that gm has nearly failed so many times. . .

32 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Outlook. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard water moving around in the vehicle. While turning, water poured into the vehicle. The contact stated that the water was inside of the interior and exterior lighting. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the sun roof needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000. The VIN was unavailable.

33 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

During rains, leaks in the left rear in spare tire compartment, affecting the carpet, and flooding the back storage compartment.

34 Body problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

Near the end of may 2012, I was backing out of my driveway which slopes slightly downward, and suddenly water started coming out of the rear overhead lights. When the car reached level ground the water then came out of the passenger-side windshield pillar and the sunroof as well. I brought it to a gm dealership and they told me the sunroof drain tubes were clogged. It cost me $90. 00 to have them clean it out. The car is normally garaged, however we had driven it during a rainstorm the day before this happened. Afterwards we started noticing some crazy things happening to the electrical system of the car. Sometimes the radio would stay on even after the key was removed and opening the doors (which normally would shut everything down. ) sometimes the front door panel speakers would not work at all, or one would work or both would work. Right now the drivers side is not working. Then the day after the car was out in a torrential rain storm sometime near the end of February 2014, it would not start at all. It was completely dead and I had to call aaa to get it started. The aaa guy said to check this car out online for electrical problems, which I did and found volumes of complaints stemming from this issue, as well as several gm technical service bulletins or TSB's as they are referred to. I once again brought it to the gm dealership which knew about the issue and repaired it at a cost to me of $810. 39. Gm has not addressed this issue directly, nor has compensated any of the consumers who own the vehicles that all have this problem, namely Saturn Outlook, GMC acadia and Buick enclave from 2008 - 2010. I feel that it is irresponsible and unethical for them to pass this problem off to the consumer. This is not a normal wear and tear issue and I want to be reimbursed, and I'd like them to inspect and repair for free the electrical system as well for other damage.

35 Body problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

My 07 Saturn Outlook has 2 major issues the wave plate broke in the transmission code p0776 and didn't run. I had to wait over 7 months to save since I had a car payment to have it rebuilt. It should be a recall since there are so many in my position miles were 80,674 and now my roof leaks should be a recall it is messing up my electrical could cause a fire in the vehicle that I used to take my kids in so I have to drive around with towels on my seat as my car rains on my head in side when it is raining outside.
