I purchased a 2008 Saturn Outlook. In June 2012. I have had to have the water pump replaced a total of three times. I first replaced the water pump in December 2012 after a trip from illinois to georgia. The water pump was repaired on December 24,2012, at a pep boys in georgia. Luckily I got an extend warranty in may 2013, I took the car to a gm dealrship for other work . They advised that they would perform work under warranty but the water pump was leaking and had to be replaced before the work could be done. I was furious and took back to the closest pep boys. Another water pump was installed at pep boys in may, 2103. I took the car back to gm in June and they advised that the water pump was leaking again. Luickily the service manager replaced the water pump for no charge. I just received notice from gm that they aknowledge a problem with water pump leaks with this model. And would cover the repairs up till 120,000 miles. I do not think that this condition is repairable in that it is unheard of that a car would need three water pumps in a period of seven months. The cmpany says that it is caused by low fluid levels. I have maintained the correct level of coolant in my car since I have owned it and beleive it something alot more than what they are telling me.
I brought a Saturn Outlook in 2009 and had numerous issues similar to what has been detailed in this website. - both headlights failed to work - one covered under warranty & cost of second one reimbursed by gm under the recall - starter failed - covered under warranty - failed water pump at 73k - I paid for replacement - steering gear and pump replacement because the steering locks up at low speed @ 78k my third vehicle but first gm and the experience with Saturn/gm have been frustrating. I see others have experienced similar failure on this mode. Documenting these vehicles for future use or possible help from gm or dot.

This car is a lemon. We bought the car used from a gm dealership in sept 2012. In retrospect, it was a sign from above indicating it was a lemon however we held out faith. The first problem, not even 2 weeks after buying the car, the water pump blew. The thermostat then broke only a few months later. Another repair. Then the monster came --- timing chain! the timing chain broke! just awful! thankfully, we discovered a 120,000 warranty thing that included the timing chain, otherwise this pos would've been dumped off at the nearest junkyard. So, that was all fine and dandy until several months later the brakes wouldn't have pressure behind the pedal. We had to replace lines, pads, rotors, the whole kit and caboodle since that was all broken. Okay, so we fixed that. Ugh. We started talking about replacing the vehicle, but soon discovered we would owe more on vehicle than what it is worth. Everything was fine and calm and peaceful for quite some time. Then the one time we go to use the lift gate to unload some boxes, sure enough -- the lift gate wouldn't open!! the stupid switch went out on that! what?!!! they had to take the whole flipping door off the car in order to get to the stupid switch! it was locked shut. It wasn't a tragically expensive repair, so we paid it, moved on. Now, this is the thing that has really irked me. Noticed while driving the car's transmission jerks at 20-30 mph, and in reverse. So we called up the dealership, explained what it was, they test drove it, said "ooohhhh, it's probably the wave plate inside the transmission. " -- you'll need to purchase a remanufactured transmission from gm, or you'll need to have it rebuilt, but they're about the same price (about $500 difference). I was sucker punched. You win again gm! you're cheaply made crap and now my wallet is hemorrhaging again! I will never buy gm again! ever! piece of crap vehicles!.

I have a 2009 Saturn Outlook. Myself and several others have had Outlooks and GMC acadias that have had to replace the water pumps. This seems like either a design or defective part issue with these gm cars. It seems like a recall should be done.
Owner noticed a whining noise when turning at low speeds. Dealer diagnosed a failed steering rack (pinion), leaking power steering pump, and leaking water pump. Vehicle was purchased new in 2009 and currently has 39,000 miles (no longer under bumper to bumper warranty).
Vehicle has had 3 major transmission warranty repairs done tone NHTSA # 10030729, two engine warranty repairs (water pump, engine seals) and one electrical recalls NHTSA # 08v44100 wire harness which is a fire hazard and one windshield wiper/washer linkage 08v410000 which could result in a vehicle crash.
