The parking brake does not engage at all even though the parking brake lever give resistance as normal and only lifts about 5 clicks from the bottom. The vehicle rolls when it is engaged as though it is not even pulled up. This is especially scary because it is a manual vehicle. Only hast 58,449 miles on it. No warning lamps. Have not had it looked at by a dealer or repair facility at this time.

When pressing on the brakes in reverse, they fail to stop the resistance is very hard, like stepping on a brick, and it does nothing to slow the vehicle. I had to throw the emergency brake on and put the car in gear in order to stop it from rolling backwards.

When first starting engine in the morning or after vehicle sits for a bit, the breaks literally do not work. This is a known problem across the internet and one that nobody at the service department at any dealership has a clue how to fix. If my car rolls into the street of my steep inclined driveway? I'm dead. It happens every day. The attachment is one of thousands.
My car was parked in the driveway on an incline, emergency brake was set. My car rolled down the driveway and off an embankment. The emergency brake was still up when it stopped. The car was a total loss.
I started my 2008 Saturn Sky and while backing the car out of the garage I almost hit the garage because there is virtually no power assist on the brakes upon startup. I have seen that there si a TSB out on this for cars sitting extended periods of time. This car only sits overnight at most. This is not a one off event. If my wife or daughter were driving the car they would defiantly hit something because of their inability to apply enough pressure to the brake this could easily lead to an accident .
The 2008 Saturn Sky redline failed the hawaii state safety check because the parking brake does not function. The dealer that did the safety check could not fix the parking brake.
Revs forward by reving forward I mean that when I come to a stop the car goes forward many times until I complete a stop and everytime that happens engine light goes on. I have already change the brakes and still problem continues. Air bag I have fixed it when it when off and spend around $1100 in total and months later when on again. I really dont have the money to fix it anymore so please help and fix my car.
After I parked my Saturn Sky in my daughter-in-law's driveway for approximately 15 minutes, my son-in-law and I heard a loud "pop" from my Saturn Sky. About 5 minutes later, my Saturn Sky drifted backwards out of the driveway (slight downhill direction) and into the street. My son-in-law ran after the car and caught up to it just as stopped drifting backwards uphill in the street and began drifting forward in a downhill direction. He was able to reach into the car (the convertible top was down) and set the emergency brake. While doing so, the car ran over his foot injuring his toe. Thank god there were no children playing in the driveway! the emergency brake was initially set since the driveway does have a slight slope towards the street, but after cooling down for approximately 15 minutes, the emergency brake released.
Ytd 2007 Saturn Sky has lost the use of it's emergency brake. It has been replaced 3 times now. The car only has 41000 miles.
Brakes/ vacuum does not function properly when starting the vehicle. Took it to gm for a few adjustments (which did not work) and they say that the car must be warmed up for 1 minute or more before driving. That is unacceptable living in warm weather climate. Why should I have to wait to drive a new car in order for the brakes to work and be safe. It's a safety issue and now I cannot let anyone drive my car, or go to a valet in fear that they will hit something or someone.
2008 Saturn Sky redline 700 miles on the od brake problem. Cold start produces pedal vibration and little or no brake power. Fortunately I haven't ran into anything.
After first starting, the vehicle has no brakes. This issue occurred the first time I backed it out of the garage. The brakes were very soft and I had to keep pumping them. I contacted the dealer and they said that you have to let it warm up first. I took the car in and told them that this was unacceptable and could result in an accident. They made an adjustment to the brakes, however, they are very hard. This is a very serious problem and it needs to be addressed.
My car is at Saturn of hickory for the third time because of the brakes they said they cannot fix them it is a defect I have asked for my money back with no answer as of yet my brakes were like this from the very first day. The first day I went to drive the car I called the sales person that sold us the car and told her hey something is wrong I have no brakes !!!! they have said that you have to let the car warm up first but that is not in the manual nor did the sale person tell us this. I have almost hit something numerous times in this car already and it only has about 2000 miles on it. I should not have to sit and wait for a car to warm up before I can drive it in the summer time !!!!.
The brakes required extremely high force to get the vehicle to stop for the 30-60 seconds after start up, if the vehicle has been sitting for approx. 6 hours or more. My understanding is that in 2008 as a cost savings gm chose to remove the vacuum pump. Since this vehicle is a turbo it does not develop high enough vacuum and it bleed off quickly after the vehicle sits a while. The vacuum pump is being put back into the 2009 to eliminate this problem. This issue is very dangerous and needs to be addressed immediately. This problem has been going on for almost a year. Make gm fix this problem on the 2008 turbos, please.
Saturn Sky redline when start car you have no brakes.
Excessive brake pedal effort on cold start.
I own a 2008 Saturn Sky redline. My vehicle suffers the problem listed in several similar complaints logged with the NHTSA and mentioned on multiple Saturn Sky forums - brake system not working adequately after starting the vehicle once is has sat overnight. Typically takes 30-45 seconds to build sufficient vacuum for brake system to function normally. No accidents as I was aware of the issue when purchasing the car. However, in my opinion, it does pose a safety issue and should be corrected.
2008 Sky redline turbo. . No brakes or very hard brakes when first starting car. Car has only 55 miles on it.
Brakes do not work when car is first started. Recently the same failure occurred when I was leaving the freeway and hit the off ramp (on 03/21/08) near my home, I ended up grabbing the emergency brake to assist in stopping me. That time, however, a svc braking system light came on. It was taken to the dealer who promptly reset the computer and told me it was nothing to worry about. I called Saturn and complained. They called the dealer who worked on the brakes. As of this morning, it is still doing it. I have to say, I have great trepidation driving the car at this point and will no longer permit my wife to drive or ride in it. Saturn needs to step up the proverbial bat, come up with a fix, recall all affected units and fix them all before someone dies.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. While driving 2 mph, the contact stated that she had to depress the brake pedal harder than normal to get the vehicle to stop. As of March 21, 2008, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 420. Updated 04/14/08. The consumer stated the incident happened yet again on April 3, 2008, the dealer stated they are aware of the problem and they expect a recall for this defect. Updated 04/11/08.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. While driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Immediately, white smoke appeared from the instrument panel, which resulted in reduced visibility. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road with caution and roadside assistance was called to the scene. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the heating and air conditioning system caused the failure. The system was replaced. The contact smelled a strong odor of coolant inside the vehicle following the repair and the traction control failed to operate. Whenever the vehicle was in operation, the abs warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. On six separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 15,500.
Upon starting vehicle and attempting to back out of driveway, brakes are inactive and vehicle continues to roll down driveway. Took it into the Saturn dealership, explained situation, and I was told it was "normal", and this was something that had to "burn off" in time.
Brakes do not engage properaly when engine is cool (vacuum assist).
Brakes do not work at start-up on my Saturn Sky redline. Definite safety issue. I almost hit someone backing out of my driveway. Must be fixed!!!! dealer says this is normal, but it is not! these brakes are very scary and what if a valet or someone else other than me were to drive this brand new vehicle.
Brakes do not work at start-up. When I start vehicle and go to drive or reverse, the brakes do not function. I try to press hard on the brakes and it still doesn't stop the vehicle. This has happened many times and there are forums on it on Skyroadster. Com. Also, if you do a search on the web and type in -Saturn Sky brakes you will find sites the same complaints. Many have the same problem. This is a brand new 2008 Saturn Sky redline. I'm afraid I may hit something or someone. It's very scary not to mention what if I give the car to valet??? or let someone else drive it? this is a safety issue and must be resolved before someone gets hurt. Dealer says this is normal for brakes to be this way at start-up. I have never heard of such a thing like this on other cars. Please help!!!.
While starting up my 2008 Sky redline, the brakes do not work. I went to reverse out of the driveway and when I applied the brakes they did not work. I had to floor the brakes and it still kept going. This has happened to me 10 times and the car is only a month old. . Read more...
2008 Saturn Sky [ redline ] brakes are inoperative for minutes after starting the vehicle. Seems to be a "normal trend with other Saturn Sky owners as well. Brakes are non functional for minutes after starting.
When the car is started (cold start) the brakes do not work at first. If one sits there for 2-3 minutes and lets the vacuum build up - then they work. The manufacturer fails to mention this to the buyers. I have had this occur several times. I must mention that my car is a 5-speed stickshift. Shortly after purchase, I started my car - the emergency brake was on, my foot was on the brake, and as soon as I started to let up on the clutch the car jumped forward & my foot was still on the brake. Since then, I always place my car in neutral before starting. Then approximately a month ago: I went to move my car out of the garage to the driveway - I started the car, after approximately 45 seconds to 1 minute I put it into reverse, slowly backed out, and when I went to stop I had no brakes - thankfully I had the presence of mind to throw it into neutral and grabbed the emergency brake. Just missed going across the street to where children were walking to school. Then on Monday of this week, I started the car, let it idle for over 2 minutes, put into reverse to back out of the garage and had the same thing happened again. I discussed this with my dealer and was told to "just let the car warm up properly". This is worrisome because I cannot let anyone valet park or drive my car for fear that someone could get hurt. It is my understanding that gm did away with an auxiliary vacuum booster on the engine so now it takes time for sufficient vacuum to build up for the braking system to work. And I have discovered that a number of people are having this same problem with the 2008 model year of the Saturn Sky by perusing the Skyroaster. Com website. Seems to have been a big mistake this is a disaster waiting-to-happen as not only is there going to be property damage caused but there is going to end up with people being injured or killed. And I do not believe that it should wait for someone to be maimed or injured for this to be looked into.
At start-up of my brand new car the brakes do not work. I go to reverse and the car does not completely stop. It's extremely dangerous and scary. . Read more...
Vacuum brake design problem on the 2008 Saturn Sky redline. Brakes are very hard and take alot of effort to stop car at first start up. After car warms up (30-60 seconds) vacuum builds up and brakes are good.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. While driving 5-10 mph, the vehicle would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the failure would occur after the vehicle has been parked for more than two hours. The dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner and advised her to let it idle for two minutes. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer and they stated that the vehicle needed a vacuum pump assist for the brakes; however, the manufacturer denied the request. As of November 28, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 5 and current mileage was 1,637. Updated 12/31/07.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. The contact applied the brakes, but the vehicle continued to move forward. There was approximately a 3-4 second delay before the vehicle stopped. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was 800 and failure mileage was 400. Update 04-02-08.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. While driving 4 mph, the contact heard a crunching noise when she depressed the brake pedal. The stopping distance increased. The dealer stated that this was a normal occurrence for this year, make, and model of vehicle. As of November 16, 2007, the dealer had not made any adjustments. The powertrain was unknown. The failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 2,000.
