Horn Assembly Problems of Saturn SL

Saturn SL owners have reported 4 problems related to horn assembly (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Horn Assembly problem of the 2001 Saturn SL

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

For some time now my horn is unreliable. I was behind a car that was attempting to reverse and was trying to alert them of my presence and my horn would not work. I repeatedly kept pressing the horn icon on the steering wheel and nothing happened. I was lucky that a person walking noticed and alerted the driver in front of me. Another time I was at a traffic light and the person in front of me was distracted with something in their car and the light was green and I had cars lined up behind me, I tried to blow my horn to alert them of the light change, no horn. Again pressed horn icon repeatedly and nothing happened. I would say the first occurrence happened in 2009 and progressed with sporadic availability until it completely stopped. I have too many instances to name where I needed my horn and it failed to work. I have contacted Saturn and am waiting their reply.

2 Horn Assembly problem of the 1993 Saturn SL

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

The contact owns a 1993 Saturn Sl. The contact stated that the passenger side windshield wiper separated from the arm. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact also stated that the driver¿s seat, horn, ignition, and windows also failed. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 172,727.

3 Horn Assembly problem of the 1997 Saturn SL

Failure Date: 11/30/2006

I purchased a used 1997 Saturn Sl in 2005. When I negotiated to purchase the vehicle the horn was not working. The used car dealer replaced a fuse. The horn then worked intermittently if the horn button was pushed just so. Within a week it failed to work at all. I contacted Saturn (via the internet) and got no help, other than to take the dealer for repair. This car was totaled out in an accident. I liked it so much (other than the horn issue) that I bought another one - a 1996 Sl. The horn on the 96 also worked intermittently. Again, pushing the horn button in just the right way would activate the horn. Recently it stopped working - just like the 97. I feel that this must be a pervasive issue. I have never owned any other vehicle with a horn issue. It is definitely a safety issue; one that could be very expensive to repair due to the steering wheel having an air bag. I reviewed a few web sites that described similar problems and noted a recall on a 96 Saturn z model. This proves that Saturn has had some horn issues before. I'd appreciate any help I can get to get Saturn to repair this issue without potentially burdensome cost to me. Feel free to contact me. (740-774-5237 work; 614-871-4081 home: 614-284-3554 cell. 4 Horn Assembly problem of the 1996 Saturn SL

Failure Date: 04/11/2006

Hi, I have a 1996 Saturn with VIN number 1g8zfs288tz181736 and there is a recall NHTSA recall no. 98v307/ gm recall no. 98c01 that applies to Saturns of my model built from July 1995 to February 1997. According to Saturn the recall only applies to VIN number ranging from vz235788 to vz314099, which my vehicles does not fall. According to Saturn, however, my vehicle was built 12/1995, which would be during this period. Since there is only one plant for which the car could have been built it is unclear how my VIN number does not apply. It seems to me that I may not be the only vehicle that fell through this crack. My horn is exhibiting the exact failure (horn sticking on) that the recall is for. Saturn has refused to pay for the repair of the problem. Do I have any recourse through the NHTSA? thanks.
