Saturn SL2 owners have reported 4 problems related to mid/rear seats assembly (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Saturn has engineered a front seat that folds flat when hit in the rear with sufficient force. What Saturn has forgotten about during the design is the potential for severe and catostrophic injuries to rear passengers when the seat folds down during a crash. I experienced such a crash and feel that if a passenger were in the rear seat they would have sustained broken knee caps or had various parts of their body serverely hit by the seat. This would be from the head to the lower torso. Saturn is very non-commital about my concern. This is a serious injury waiting to happen. It essentially make the Saturn a 2-passenger car and only for front passengers.

The vehicle was rear ended which caused both front seats to break from the frame. Both seats went back into the rear seat because of the front seats broke from the frame.

Both driver and passenger side front seats and shoulder belts do not lock up, and allow occupants to move forward excessively. Back seat belt will not retract. Mechanic has seen vehicle.
The submarine seating makes it difficult to properly install car seats. Manuals do not give suggestions or number to contact to have seat installed properly. Also, for smaller adults, the rear seats are dipped so that the seat belts don't give a proper fit.
