1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

We purchased our 2003 Saturn new. The transmission was replaced right after we purchased it. We have had trouble with the car not wanting to get in to gear along with the ignition not turning on. The vehicle has been having trouble getting into gear for quite sometime. We had it services once with no transmission problems seen. We were told the ignition would cost us 600 plus to repair. It only has around 86000 miles on it and am very dissappointed to see all the reviews/complaints on this model. No one is being held accountable for their actions. My daughter was heading to college on Saturday, Aug 20, 2011. The day before she was leaving for a 2 hour trip, the car would not go in drive. We.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

I bought a 2003 Saturn Vue in 2008 with 120,000 miles on it. It had a 3 month power tam waruntee. 1 month after that expired the transmission went out. Furious, I called the Saturn dealership. They were amazing. They understood and put a new transmission in, paid for the towing and even reimbursed me for the rental car expense. The new transmission went out 3 years later, and I put less than 20,000 miles on it. I was denied any assistance from gm because of the mileage on the car. Mileage? I bought it used! now I am stuck with a car that is worth nothing but the spare parts?! there is a long hisytory of this model blowing out transmission and gm does nothing about it!? this is not an owner's problem, its a manufacturer problem and they offer 0 back for a trade in rebate?! this is impossible to believe and only further proves that the american auto indusrty cuts corners as well as scams its customers. This is a shameful company, and I hope this complaint is heard. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2011

My wife & I brought a used 03 Saturn Vue with only 39,000 miles on Jun 20. Great condition until Jul 19, the car started acting strange. We took it to a mechanic and they though it may be the transmission to take it to a transmission specialist. We did & sure enough it is. We are on a tight budget and unable to even get another loan. We came across a website that the 03 Saturn Vue had a recall and a lawsuit. Why are these dealers still selling Saturns with a defective transmission? we made our 1st car payment on Jul 15 and now it is just sitting there. Any advice would be greatly appreciative!.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

2003 Saturn Vue cvt/vti transmission problems. Already "fixed" at a Saturn dealer 2 years ago after complete failure while driving on a curvy 55 mph country road. An accident was possible at that time and luckily I had a parking lot pull off to access. I am the original owner and was never notified of a highly apparent know defect. This Saturn was involved in an accident because the transmission once again failed without notice and only after a Saturn dealership "fixed" this problem 2 years prior and not many miles later. Luckily, I was returning home after returning my 7 year old daughter to her mother just ten minutes and 6 miles earlier. If she was in the back seat it is highly likely she would have been very seriously injured or dead. The passenger was injured and rushed to the hospital. I was banged up as the driver. This vti transmission is an epic failure! how many people need to lose their lives before something is done. I was completely unaware of the widespread problem until I did a little research on the internet. Beyond shocking, to say the least. I am contacting an attorney and inquiring about being stuck with this unsafe lemon. I have been refered by Saturn to a local gm dealer for service via mail, so I will start there. I am dismayed that there has been nothing done with this even after a class action suit was awarded which I was unaware of until tonight 4/6/11. Can you live with the guilt of knowing about an ongoing and evident problem and the lives that will likely be lost due to known problem. Why in the world has there not been a recall on this problem. Toyota has a few gas pedal issuses and bingo. I would rather be driving one of those after seeing and experiencing what I have recently. How many of these ticking time bombs are still out on the road. I see several almost daily. There is another form of a domestic terrorist and it is the poor unassuming Saturn drivers. This car fell shy of being a total. Insurance companies will have interest.

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2011

We purchased a 2003 Saturn Vue from an individual on February 14, 2011. We had the car almost one month and we were out to eat on a Sunday in hendersonville TN when my husband goes to put our Vue into reverse to pull out of a stall and it would back up it just would not go forward. We thought maybe it was low on transmission fluid. We filled it with some and it still didnt move forward only reverse. Well we call for it to be towed to the nearest Saturn dealer in goodlettsville TN. Now gm is giving us the runaround about giving us any money at all on this vehicle. We further found out upon investigation on the internet that Saturn admitted there was troubles with the transmission but they were never made to recall these transmissions. Now as a consumer that makes me mad, we went on craigslist and there are a ton of these being sold right here in tennessee. More suckers that have no clue what they are getting into. What if my husband were to have been in rush hour traffic that day and a semi rammed into him because he could only go backwards???????? this is a safety issue!!!!!!! I am mad as a consumer and I dont want anyone else to go through this nightmare!.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

We have a 2003 Saturn Vue and it only has 43,000 miles on it and the second transmission has now gone out. Three years ago we had a new transmission put in and now for a second time it has broke. We had warranty on it and they replaced the first one and also had purchased the extended warranty, but now that Saturn is not in business they will not honor our warranty. We cannot afford a second transmission and we need this vehicle really bad as we have no other transportation for our children. We have read so many reviews on this that from 2003-2005 the Saturn Vue transmission continue to break. What do we do now since our warranty is not valid and we can't afford to have it fixed. It's not fair at all.

The dealer stated the vehicle would first need a diagnostic test before determining the cause of the failure, at her expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 105,000.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Since we purchased the vehicle (2003 Saturn Vue) it has had one problem after another. I called gm and asked for their assistance in the matter and was told that because I bought the car used and it was not a gm certified auto center they were unable to extend any type of service. The SUV loses power, begins to "putt" when it reaches a half of a tank gasoline. When in idle the engine shakes. Going on a camping trip in the mountains this became a real problem. The car did not want to climb the hills, some times mountains. The terrain was scary enough on its own (cliffs off to the side) and needed no help from the SUV not wanting to drive like it was supposed too. We have had the vehicle looked at several times and have also attempted to contact gm. Gm told us that because the car is outside of the 8 year or 100,000 mile range there is nothing they can do to assist us. That being said. I have taken it to two gm certified mechanics whom tell me that it is two separate things that need to be fixed. As seen online we are not the only ones this has happened too. I really hope that someone does something about this. Many americans are feeling the financial pull with out gm screwing us, I really don't need to be treated like this.

18 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that the vehicle would not move forward or in reverse. The vehicle was parked and left idle for several days before becoming responsive yet, the failure recurred intermittently and became progressively worse. In addition, there were gasoline fumes entering into the interior cabin of the vehicle and the contact had to drive with the windows open to avoid becoming sick. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer informed her that even if the transmission was replaced, the failure could possibly recur. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who verified the dealers advice. The current mileage was approximately 100,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2010

2003 Saturn Vue 117,000 miles transmission went out while driving on busy street no warning. Called gm found out about a "bulletin" they had in place on my Saturn Vue 100,000 miles or 8yrs old and they would replace transmission for half the cost which is 7,000 dollars!!!!! I tried to get a few estimates but nobody but the dealer wanted to even mess with this type of transmission? don't know what to do ? this needs to be a recall very dangerous to people like me who just bought the car not knowing about the faulty transmissions in these cars. Please make gm accountable.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2010

2003 Saturn Vue. Transmission went out with no warning. Coming off of a bridge to a busy intersection and the transmission went out. I was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road without an accident. A lot of semi's travel this road and an accident could have easily happened.

21 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

Vti transmission in 2003 Saturn Vue went out, stranding me on the side of the road in an unsafe area. This is a known problem with Saturn Vues and ions, but no recall has been issued. Gm needs to be held accountable for this and recall all of the effected vehicles. I was told that because my vehicle is past the date, even though my mileage is only 62,000 (well below the 75,000 that gm is supposed to cover under the extended warranty), I would have to pay half, which is $2,500. I should not have to pay a single penny for this new transmission.

22 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

My 2003 Saturn Vue with vti transmission broke down on 3/12/10. Car was towed and is at dealership awaiting a new transmission. This should be a recall and paid for by gm, instead, I have to pay $2,500 (half the cost) which I cannot afford!! the transmission is a factory defect and isn't at the recall stage yet as I was told gm has to have a certain number of complaints before it turns into a recall. Please add my complaint to the list and hopefully the faulty transmissions will be recalled and we will be reimbursed. Thank you.

23 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

My car 2003 Saturn Vue (vti transmission) just stalled on the highway without warning has 113,000 miles on it, 2 months before that I received a letter from Saturn stating they were having problems, or something like that. I still have that letter. I paid $10,000. 00 for the car, and still owe $7,000. 00 and the car is useless to me now, I still owe on the loan, cannot get another one, live pay check to paycheck. . Need the car for my job, on and on. . . . . . . . . It is sitting at a gm bergstrom lot right now, and they are giving me the run around. 1st he said he'd do everything he could to help me, and the next day he said I have very bad news, I can't do anything!! the director called with the same answer. . My car has been sitting at nordstroms in oshkosh, WI. For a couple of days now, I found this e-mail address of yours, on an e-mail of another unhappy customer of 2003 Saturn Vue transmission. It broke down I said I guess it is quite useless talking any more to Saturn or gm.

24 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

I purchased a 2003 Saturn Vue from a private seller on Feb. 24, 2009. The car had 94,900 miles. It ran great for about 3 months. Then I noticed the Vue would randomly slip into a "weird gear" and the engine would run harder than normal. I took the car in for the 99,000 mile service and told the Saturn service advisor the car sounded like a "washing machine" please bear in mind I an not a car person, I just drive them. When I picked the car up, I noticed the mileage was the same as when I dropped it off to be serviced. As I was driving home car started doing the same thing. I thought maybe I was just over-reacting to something that was not a real problem. About 3 or 4 weeks later I received a letter from gm stating that their could be a potential problem with the vti transmission installed at the factory. It all made sense to me at that moment. I got in touch with gm and they assigned a rep. To investigate my case and determined that my transmission was bad, however, I was 700 miles over the 100,000 mile limit by this time. I tried with no sucess to explain to the gm rep. How I had attempted to communicate the problem to the Saturn service folks to resolve the problem at my 99,000 mile service. But he really didn't care really!!! I never ask for them to replace the faulty transmission for free, I was perfectly willing to go 50/50 with them on the repair due to the higher mileage of the car. So now my car is sitting on a dealers lot and I am without a car. My takeaway is buyer beware!! gm throws out junk and could care less about their customers. Vs what I am seeing Toyota do. Toyota has shut down their plants and are not going to build anymore cars until they correct a problem. While gm keeps on throwing out the @#$% and to add further insult to injury our tax dollars went to rescue this bunch of crooks.

25 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2009

A few years ago I purchased a used 2003 Vue. Currently there is approximately 120,000 miles on it. On 10/31/09 I drove my 40 miles to work and all was fine. At lunch break the check engine light came on and when I put the gas on the vehicle would hardly move. After discussing the problem with my husband, we decided to have it towed to a transmission place, not a Saturn dealer, because of cost. The vehicle was only running in 3rd gear, all other gears were not working. When that problem was fixed, it was found that the computer was needing to be replaced. The transmission place has been very nice and even paid for a rental car for me, but when all is said and done, I will owe them about $3000. Why am I reading all these complaints about the transmission and no recalls have been done?.

26 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2009

The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. She noticed the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. A technician reset the error code. Weeks later while entering a parking space, the vehicle stalled without any prior warnings. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and a technician stated that the transmission needed to be replaced at an expense of $5300. 00. The manufacturer was notified and a representative stated that there was voluntary campaign on the ti1 transmission for "original: owners. Since she was the second owner she was ineligible for a free remedy. No repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 70,000. Updated 12/10/09. Updated 12/10/09.

27 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2009

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue with a vti transmission. It is starting to rev high rpm when it shouldn't be. I have already taken it in for 3 transmission fluid changes and several computer upgrades. It has approximately 122000 miles on it currently. Did Saturn ever recall this after your investigation of the faulty transmission? I have received no letter on this from Saturn for a recall. How can they not back up their crappy product and not make it right? please advise.

28 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2009

While driving my 2003 Saturn Vue, my car has been making strange noises, like my brakes were going, making a scraping noise. I was planning to take my car to have it looked at tomorrow, have the brakes looked over. Tonight I was visiting my daughter and when I attempted to put my car in reverse, it would not move. So I tried to put it in drive and it moved a little and stopped. Now I cannot get the car to move forward or backwards. I am filing a complaint because I had received a letter concerning a class action settlement and I was reading one of the complaints by another person with similar problems and through the info provided by this individual to contact this site. I bought my car used in 2007. Is there any recall??? I know there is a class action settlement by going to Saturnvti. Classaction@lakinlaw. Com but has there been any recalls regarding this lawsuit. It is the right thing to do since this was Saturn's mistake. I am very disappointed with the way they are handling this. I really do like my Saturn Vue & you would think Saturn would do right for the consumer of their damaged vehicles. If not I will never purchase another one & let everyone know not to bother to do so too.

29 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

Power train-automatic vti transmission.

The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. While driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions. The vehicle stalled without warning. Roadside assistance was called to the scene. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated the failure was contributed to the transmission which required replacement. The manufacturer was willing to assist 30% towards the estimated repair cost of $5,000. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure and current mileages were 110,000. The VIN was unavailable. Bl.

32 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2009

The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised him that he would need to replace the transmission. The transmission was replaced on three occasions within 1. 5 years. 33 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

My 2003 Saturn Vue had the transmission die completely at 62,000 miles and 6 years old. We were in the middle of a vacation and it dies 2 minutes before we entered the interstate in seattle, wa. There was no warning, other than Saturn telling us 5 years ago that the transmission may lose power on occasion but it is not a safety concern.

34 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2009

The contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 45 mph. Additionally, the front driver and passenger side doors were unable to be opened from the inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the dealer advised that the transmission would need replacing as well as the door hinges. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The transmission was replaced but the doors were not repaired. The failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.

35 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

I purchased a Saturn Vue in 2003 with 7 miles on it. 2 years later as I was driving it on the highway, my rpm's gave way. Cause: transmission. . . Was completely replaced by Saturn, thankfully was under warranty. Now 3 years later, I am having transmission problems again. I contacted Saturn and they advised me that I would have to pay for 25% of the cost. This is unacceptable. They sold a car with defective parts. As I have researched I have noticed that many consumers are being hit with the same exact problem. Gm/Saturn should replace all transmission at no cost, being that they were not able to make a transmission that would last. This is unacceptable.
