2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

I was on my way home in my 2004 Saturn Vue when a buck jumped out in front of me. I stomped on the brakes, however, I ended up hitting the buck (deer) that then ran away. My entire front in was smashed in, the air bags never deployed, the seat belts didn't lock when I stomped on the breaks. My daughter and I were both in the front seats and we both went forward messing up both of our necks and backs.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

While driving 45 mph, the crankshaft pulley on front of engine partially separated from it's hub, causing a drive belt mis-allignment of the pulleys for crankshaft, alternator, and air conditioner. This caused the drive belt running of these pulleys to shred, resulting in loss of electrical power while driving. While looking for a replacement part to repair the vehicle, I found out that gm has discontinued this part, gm part 12606927. Also, I have discovered that a large number of these crankshaft dampner pulleys are now failing, depleting the remaining gm parts stock to zero in the USA, suggesting a defective part design. This dampner-crankshaft pulley fits Saturn Vue 2004 thru 2007 with l66 3. 5l 6 cylinder engines, as well as other gm car lines. The resulting loss of alternator power will quickly result in drop in system voltage due to discharge of battery, causing the car engine to unexpectedly shut down. This is a serious safety issue and these vehicles need to be recalled by gm to correct this condition.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

Serpentine belt was shredded, when the bearing on the idler seized. V6-awd.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 03/19/2009

Purchased 2005 Saturn Vue 02/20/08 with 13,000 miles. On 03/19/09 my Saturn Vue broke down. The vehicle was taken to Saturn honolulu and subsequently found to have a defective damper pulley. The Saturn mechanic explained that the damper pulley had walked away from the block which caused the serpentine belt to shred. The shredded pieces got into the timing belt cover causing the timing belt to skip and bending all of the valves. The Saturn mechanic had never seen this happen before and had agreed that the part (damper pulley) was defective. Because this was a manufacturer defect, I thought that Saturn would contact the manufacturer general motors and correct the problem. I was informed that I would be responsible for paying to have the problem fixed. Estimate cost for repair ($7,000) dollars. I was informed that because the vehicle was purchased from a different dealer that Saturn would not cover the damages. I also was informed that the vehicle did have an extended warrant on it purchased by the original owner, but, because the warranty was not changed to me for the $25. Dollar fee, I could not use the warranty. I really need some help. Thanks.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

Over the past year, I have had several instances where the "check engine" light comes on and the car just shuts down and won't start up. I have also had the low coolant light come on and was leaking anti-freeze, which I kept on filling up. Once it was towed to the dealer and when they went to look at it the next morning, it started right up and they could not figure out what was wrong. Another time I left it and when I came back, it started right up. In both of those instances, I was driving less than 40 mph and was able to get to the side of the road safely. The 3rd time that the car died, I was traveling 65 mph on an interstate when the car suddenly died, without any warning. I had just enough time to pull over to the side of the road and avert an accident. I bought a new car, because I was afraid to drive this one and it has been sitting in my driveway for 8 weeks. I recently had the Vue towed to a different dealership. They said that I need a new timing belt and water pump. They also say that I need to have an I-bolt pulley, belt tensioner, alternator, and serpentine belt replaced. Other repairs that are needed are a front sway bar links and the bearing on the drive shaft. This car has only 92,000 miles.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 11/06/2007

The only "event" which led to the failure was accelerating to then merge into oncoming traffic. The timing chain failed/broke during acceleration while merging with oncoming traffic. Power was then lost, the vehicle died while going downhill. This caused loss of full brakes and steering while the vehicle rolled to a stop. The chain then damaged multiple valves leading to a potential minimum $2000 repair.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 02/28/2007

Called dealer when the car had 60,000 miles to inquire about replacing timing belt and was told that it did not have to be replaced until 80,000 miles. Car now has 69,000 miles and is being repaired due to a failure in the timing belt and am know being told there may be more damage in the valves due to the failure.

10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 02/18/2007

Driving at @ 35 miles per hour in our 2002 Saturn Vue when it stopped. Just stopped. Waited 2 hours in frigid conditions for a tow. Found out the following day that the timing chain had snapped. This in turn damaged two of the engine valves causing 1400 dollars in damage. Vehicle has only 65,000 miles.

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 12/18/2006

Incident = second instance in 54,438 miles of: timing chain 'slipped' due to lack of lubrication. This is on my 2002 Saturn Vue, 4 cyl. Engine - front wheel drive. Saturn blames me for not keeping up with the every 3000 mile oil change requirement. (and is satisfied to look no further for other causes. ) I have seen a report, on this site, of an investigation into frequent timing chain failures in l-series models (having the same engine). The report references lack of oil flow to the timing chain when operating at low rpm. (this is the type of driving I do. ) the report also references "all timing chain service kits now available will include an oiler nozzel, a new design that will increase oil flow to the timing chain under low rpm operating conditions". The first instance was covered under warrantee at 24,663 miles. The current instance occurred at 54,438 mi. , and is now out of warrantee. Damage resulting = engine damage for the second instance is "beyond repair", and I am told the engine must be replaced. Even though the vehicle is out of warantee, Saturn offers to pay 50% of the cost of a rebuilt engine replacement. But, I cannot afford even 50% at this time. I have openned a case with Saturn to get more support. The case is currently awaiting action by the district manager who is on vacation until the firtst of the year.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 01/24/2005

The morning after the blizzard I started my 2003 Saturn Vue with 20,000 miles on it, I noticed a ticking sound from engine,I continued to shovel my Vue out thinking the car is cold and it will be ok . Well the sound did not go away. Concerned I shut off car and called Saturn. Today I am told it might be a timing belt tension thing . They are making the warranty repair and will call me tomorrow with test drive info. ? is this damaged my engine or not.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 12/04/2004

I went out to start my car. It made a sound like it was a diesel truck engine. I had it towed to Saturn in norwood MA on rt 1. It was my timing chain. It was covered under warranty. I am just reporting this now because I saw you were investigating the belts on other Saturn's. I read that it hadn't effected the Vue but I wanted you to know it does. I am looking up problems with this car because I have had so many. The incident date is estimated. I pick my Vue up(again) today from the dealer I will get a print out of the exact date this occurred.
