My car started to have battery issues either last year or early this year. The battery issues are getting worse. At the very beginning, the battery died after a couple of days not driving; which was shocking because it is a fairly new car. Today the battery died just overnight; I was driving to work yesterday and we were about to drive to hershey park today:( there already have been several times of roadside service for the jump start when the millage was less than 20000. I was told by the dealer that the battery drains due to the electronic design. He suggested I drive the car everyday just to charge the battery. Really!?.
The battery in our car was dead after accidentally leaving the tailgate door open for about 3 hours. We didn't think that was enough to do it but jum started it and it was ok for a day but then wouldn't start regularly without leaving any doors open. We took it into Subaru and ultimately had the batter changed even though they told us it wasn't the battery. The battery was dead again today when we went to use it. We maybe left the tailgate open for 30 minutes a few days ago unloading groceries. That seems a little extreme. The vehicle was stationary in our driveway but it happened at a parking garage before too leaving me to need to get a ride.
The car battery keeps dying. The first battery died a little after a year. The second car battery died two months and few days later. I drive the car a few times a week. I've never had a different car die under the same driving conditions. When I jump start the car after the battery dies, the electronics in the car do not function properly. When I quickly steer the steering wheel, eyesight, power steering, and other various electronics rapidly turn on and off. This seems to indicate that the battery cannot be charged, and sufficiently power the vehicle, while the vehicle is running and causes unsafe driving conditions. After receiving the new battery, these issues were mitigated until the new battery died two months later and the same behavior is happening again. The first time I went to the dealership about this issue, they said the battery was faulty and replaced it with a new battery under warranty. I'm still waiting for my next service appointment to resolve this issue.
Multiple electrical issues. Now on second battery. Vehicle in driveway, tailgate opened for 30-45 minutes and battery died. Vehicle in driveway with radio on for 1 hour, battery died. Vehicle in driveway, not driven for 12 days and battery died. Each time battery died, unable to easily jumpstart. Each time battery died, tailgate unable to open even manually.
The battery fails and cannot be recharged, it drains immediately. Also the airbags no longer work. We have had the car jump started by. A tow truck and then charged the battery at home with our own charger and it still dies immediately.
Premature battery drain. Ive replaced the battery in my Ascent 3 times in the past 2 years I've had the vehicle. First instance occured when taligate hadnt closed all the way and drianed battery. Second instance car doors were open for approx 2 hours to clean and detail my car when battery died. Third instance was listening to music in the car for 40 min while waiting for husband to go to store and I waited in the car and batter died yet again.
I have had many many times that the battery on my new car has died if it has not been driven daily. I had the shop test the battery the last time it was in and they said there was no problem. The car battery has died at least 5 times since I purchased the vehicle new in July 2019. I have been made aware of a class action lawsuit regarding this issue. My car has died again this week. I am working from home and with the massive snow, I did not drive the car for a few days and now it is dead.
My car is 1. 5 years old and the battery died in me and left me stranded. Car started after being jumped. I used my trickle charger and it is telling me that battery is bad. Car electrical system was acting strange and not turning off all systems when car was turned off. This probably drained battery.
Went to bjs to get food battery died 18k.
Vehicle will not start because battery is dead and requires a jump. This is the third time it has occurred. We have had to call starlink to come and jump the battery which resolved the issue on 1/25/21, 12/29/20 and 6/20/20. The vehicle was purchased new in may 2020. It is kept in a garage when not in use.
At 2 years and 5 months old (55k miles, mostly highway driven) the battery dies and I was stranded when I had stopped and parked. Would not start anymore. Had to jump start car and drive to dealership. Subaru dealership (gillman Subaru southwest, houston, TX) did a load test and determined battery is dead. Would not replace battery. Wanted to charge $500 to replace battery!! went to auto zone and had it replaced and installed for under $200!.
Battery has died at least 3-4 times since purchasing the car. Also ongoing issues with the radio- radio has stopped working completely before two instances when the radio died. Amplifier has been changed in car and serviced multiple times. Once while driving, the car died while driving it and steering locked.
The battery does not stay charged nor can I get it to charge above 80%. I store her in a garage. In the last two weeks, the battery has been dead (and required a jump) 3 times in 2 weeks. I get up and go into the garage to start the vehicle and the battery is just dead. I took it to the dealer to test the battery and was told that there is nothing wrong with it. My conclusion is that it must be an electrical problem.
Has a defective electrical system causing the battery to drain prematurely. Just had the new Subaru battery tested and charged at advance auto parts and it was brought up to almost a full charge. After 4 days of short trips, battery is dead again.
At only 17. 6k miles, the battery in my 2019 Subaru Ascent was completely drained overnight, for no logical reason. I called Subaru roadside assistance to give me a jump and I let it run for 33 minutes then took it for a 10 min drive. The battery was dead again the next morning. Vehicle was stationary overnight and until the 10 min drive. During this time the tailgate would persistently beep, trying to open.
I have about 7000 miles and my battery has been dieing and needing a jump start. I took it to the dealer in April and no issues were reported by the dealership. The problem happened 2 days back and again I had to jumpstart and drove the vehicle for 5 minutes. But the car would again not start 30 minutes later and needed yet another jump start. I have a follow up appointment with the dealer and the battery problem seems to be common in many Subarus as assessed by online forums.
Battery dead even though car has been in garage and driven at least 2-3x a week. Happened a few times since the first incident happened in oct 2020, and then subsequently multiple times where we need it to be jumped start. Eventually took to dealership for diagnosis and they had to replace the battery in Mar 2021.
Battery frequently dies overnight. I'll get in the car the next morning to take my kids to school and go to work and battery is dead for no reason. No lights left on or doors open. Vehicle is stationary. This has happened at least 6 times over 2 years.
Battery dies regularly - dealer has replaced the battery three times already. No lights are on, no clear reason why the battery slowly and consistently drains over time. The vehicle was stationary, but child and pet have been locked inside, and it has happened in remote locations. Also, with electrical parking brake, it can't be released for towing when the battery dies. Stranded in the woods with a kid trapped in the car and no means of jumping it is very dangerous.
We bought a used 2019 Subaru Ascent touring (CA. 18,000 miles) in July of this year. The dealership replaced the battery when we bought it. Since then, this new battery has died five times on us, the first time on September 4 2020 and most recently on November 28. It has always died while the vehicle was stationary. After it died the third time on November 22, we brought it into the local Subaru dealership. They held the car for two nights and were unable find anything wrong with it. It is currently at the dealership again.
My Ascent has a little over 16,000 miles on it and was purchased Feb. 2019. The battery died just sitting in my driveway after not being driven for 4 days. No lights were left on and tail gate was not open. Had to jump start it and take it to Subaru. Battery was defective. Luckily this happened at home and not 2 days later when I was supposed to be driving to the airport for a flight.
Parked the car. The rear liftgate would not open with fob or from dashboard. Two quick beeps but no movement. We decided to just grab our items from the inside and left. When we returned to the car about an hour later, the car would unlock but the rear liftgate still didn't work. We loaded up the car and started the car but battery was dead. After charging up the battery, all the major safety car features have been disabled and the engine light is on with many other lights showing up. The car is drivable but obviously doesn't feel right or safe. I just called Subaru to make an appointment. I explained the problem. They originally scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks later but I managed to get an appointment for next day. I'm concerned about the safety of the car especially with the number of other owners with electrical problems specifically related to the tailgate.
Our car is about a year old and the car battery has now died 3 times. It started when camping when opening and shutting the lift gate for unloading. We don't keep the back end open to prevent chipmunks getting into the car for food, so it was not left open and the lights drained it. We have had to purchase jumper cables and a battery charger so we don't get stranded again in the mountains or our driveway. We took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with the battery and they saw no drain on it. Maybe they will come jump our car when we need it next.
The vehicle only had 6,228 miles on the odometer and the battery died. It was purchased in April 2019 and battery died in July 2020.
Found my battery dead and my rear trunk door open. I had closed it and parked my car in my garage the evening of the 4th. I went to my garage today and discovered this. This is the second time this has occurred. After searching the web, I know that there is a problem with the electrical system that will cause the battery to go dead if the rear latch doesn't properly latch or the door is left open for a specified amount of time. This is very frustrating. Last time, I had to cancel a dr's appointment when I discovered it. Today, I was just going to my garage for another purpose so didn't need to drive anywhere.
As my vehicle was parked on my driveways after maybe a day or two without driving it, my battery was dead. I jumped started it and it worked, but as they went by the battery kept dying. I decided to take it to the dealer. They said my battery tested bad and because the car only has 18k miles, it was still under warranty. Ok, so I went on with my day. A couple of weeks went by and the battery died again. Brand new battery. I took it back to the dealer and they tell me they couldnt do anything about it. To let it die again and tow it back to the dealer. So I did! a week after my brand new battery had tested 'good', it had to be towed back to the dealership. Today they called me stating a cell in the battery tested bad so they are going to replace it. How could that be possible? something is withdrawing charge off the battery and they cant figure it out. They are going to keep the car overnight to see if they notice any discharge from the battery. But com'on. I have gotten my transmission replaced at 5k miles, multiple tires have blown out on the highway, the fuel pump recall a couple of months ago and now this issue. Do not buy a Subaru please!!!!.
Premature battery failure. Twice since purchase, the battery has failed to start the car and had to be jump started. Both times the temperatures were moderate and the car had been driven at least 20 miles before being parked.
The first experienced the issue when the lift gate was left open for a while the battery died before the battery died on the lift gate was left open and we couldn't open the liftgate and the only way to get the lift gate to open was the unhook the battery then after the lift gate was left over with while the battery completely died then from then on the battery continued to not be fully charged when to Subaru they couldn't figure out the issue rep.
Battery is dead frequently (1-2 times per week). This occurs after leaving one or more doors open (thus the interior lights are illuminated) for only 5-10 minutes. We are constantly having to jump start the car using a portable lithium ion battery that we purchased because of this issue. This has been occurring for over a year.
My 2019 Ascent was parked in garage overnight. Went out to car and found rear tailgate would not open and car would not start. Battery was dead. Jumpstarted car and drove it to the store. When I parked the car it went dead, car would not restart, and would not lock, tailgate would not open. Had to get roadside service to come out and start car. Took car to dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong but did replace the battery. Several weeks later while car was parked and locked in a store parking lot I came out and found the rear tailgate open. No one had pushed the remote to open the tailgate? today I found the car parked in the garage and the tailgate would not open, the car would not start, and the battery was dead again. I could find no reason for the battery to be dead again. The car had been driven normally around town for the last few days. It was parked in the garage. All the doors were shut and no lights had been left on. The car was purchased in June 2019 and has less than 6000 miles on it plus this is a new battery. I am concerned about driving the car and being left on the road by a dead battery or coming out and finding the rear tailgate open in a parking lot.
Car was shaking while idling/ shifting hard/ studdering while trying to shift and not shifting while going up an incline. The transmission was damaged from the slack in the cvt belt and now has to be completely replaced. Also the battery died. No doors were left open and no lights were left on. No reason to have a dead battery other than a large parasitic drain while the car is off.
Got into the car at home in the garage and the car would not start due to a dead battery. It was fortunate that the battery died at home. This could have been extremely stressful if this had occurred while we were out of town and not close to a Subaru dealer. After Subaru replaced the battery, it died again on April 4, 2020, also at home while the car was in the garage. At that time, the dealer simply recharged the battery and performed deep diagnostics which did not indicate any systemic electrical issue. I have attached a log of issues which point to other electrical system issues that Subaru has acknowledged are known issues but Subaru has not or will not fix the root electrical causes of these issues via a recall. This battery issue has been documented on other Subaru models in prior years. Please be aware that the file I have attached is a log of all problems I have had with the car since purchasing it. Most of them are related to the electrical system (of which the battery is part of) so focus on those too if appropriate.
My battery has died on multiple occasions due to a large continuous indefinite power draw when the rear lift gate is open. The battery will die with just an hour or two of the liftgate being open. This has happened while packing the car and while camping. I bought this car because it, and Subaru in general, are advertised as good for outdoor activity. Couldn't have been more wrong. It's a serious safety concern. This could leave a family stranded in the wilderness. I've been lucky to be with people that had more reliable outdoor vehicles to provide a jump. And now I know I can't trust my car to start so I won't be using it for extended outdoor trips.
After 4 months of ownership, in April 19 the battery died while at a camping trip. Fellow campers tried to boost the battery to no avail. I had limited cell support. Road side assistance came and towed the Ascent to the dealership. They found high current drawn from the awd system but said that beside a completely dead battery everything was normal. They provide the same battery type. In March 2020 the car wouldn't start. Contacted Subaru roadside assistance, jumped the car. In June 2020 white getting ready for a camping trip, after packing the car, which involve leaving the rear hatch open and door constantly opens and closed the car wouldn't start. Using a portable backup battery I was able to jump the car and go on my trip. While camping I kept the engine running while I was unloading the car. Did he same when I loaded the car back.
I attempted to start my Subaru Ascent and it would not start. I contacted Subaru's towing and they came and jumpstarted the car. The towing company informed me that Subaru's Ascent batteries are defective and that they have been forced to jump a number of them. I drove to work. The next morning, I woke to the same problem. I called Subaru's towing service, and they came out again. I took the car to the dealership and they tested the battery, but the battery did not exhibit fail codes. Subaru would not replace the battery, despite the two failures. Since this time, I've had multiple battery failures and Subaru continues to deny my request for replacement.
