Subaru windshild in my 2019 Ascent have been replaced twice in 30,000 miles due to very inadequate glass. I'm struggling to get Subaru to acknowledge their responsibility to replace this current cracked windshield with a new part, as per my reading of a settlement that they should be following [xxx] ). They are currently trying to send me to a 3rd party repair business to do the repair, but supposedly they have fixed the part on more recent versions of the car. By comparison, I had a Toyota highlander for 11 years and never once had to replace the windshield glass. Yes, it took a beating, but never once cracked like this glass does. It's not up to the task, and clearly dangerous. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Yesterday I got in my vehicle first thing in the morning and there was a crack at the bottom of my windshield. I’m not parked anywhere near anything that could’ve caused a crack, so it appears to have just randomly cracked for no reason. This morning as I’m just sitting at the bus stop with my kid the crack got a little bigger.
Sunroof glass broke. No apparent reason.
There is a chronic leak in the sunroof. This causes water to run down the c pillar under the carpet. The carpet has 3 inch thick molded foam attached to the bottom. The water sits in the metal floorboard pan, under the molded foam, so it sucks it up like a sponge, but the carpet never gets wet and shows signs of a leak. The dealer has serviced the sunroof yet it continues leak every time. The vehicle stays moldy and strong smells of mold never go away, also the thick foam won’t dry completely out due to the design of the flooring underlay.
Windshield broke for no reason. Crack not associated with any damage or weather incident.
Multiple cracks/chips in windshield with normal driving.
Please note: I have already had the windshield replaced once. This is the second windshield on this vehicle. My windshield was hit by a rock on the front passenger side and it "spidered" instantly. For the past month it has spidered a little more. After washing my car on 6/21, the spidering has extended across the windshield to the driver's side in the driver's line of sight. Washing my car didn't cause this (nor should it!) because I have driven in the rain for the past month. We have a 2013 Subaru forester and it just now has a chip that spidered. This is not normal!! additionally, approximately 2 weeks ago I noticed the front section of my sunroof was cracked and had spidered nearly all the way from back to front of the glass. No chip is apparent. I am paying out of pocket on these repairs because my insurance rates go up when I go through insurance. The price tag for these 2 windows is $1800. This is getting ridiculous!.
On the week of February 24th, 2022 we had a snow/ice storm that caused significant buildup on my windshield and after clearing it off and running the defrost and I noticed cracking on the windshield. I have heard of several consumers that have had problems with Subaru windshields around the same time (2015-2019) and were having the same cracking issues for the same defrost issue and cracking without cause. Have had the crack since February as the cost of the windshield will be exorbitant due to the eye sight camera and calibration.
The windshield cracked with no obvious damage. The crack did not start at a chip. Cracked while not driving and no recent rock hits.
My Subaru Ascent 2019 is 2. 5 years old. The windshield has developed a crack on its own on a long drive. The crack first appeared at the bottom of windshield near front passenger seat, and has started spreading sideways towards driver side in a zig-zag fashion. It's about 10 inches long now. I called Subaru service center and informed them about the crack. The service center said one of their managers will call me to discuss. I'm waiting for the call. I had a similar random crack appear on the sunroof 6 months after purchasing the car. It also appeared on a long drive. Subaru inspected and initially refused to cover the sunroof under warranty. They later came around and replaced the sunroof on their own and without charge to me.
The windshield has cracked twice with very small cracks. The second time was within three weeks of having it replaced at the dealer by a 3rd party since the dealer didn’t handle that repair. On this second occasion, I neither saw or heard a rock or chip hit the windshield and yet after a cold night and parking in the garage I came back the next morning and it was there. The second crack doesn’t appear to be from any rock as it is very small and almost at the base where the new windshield was installed — but the dealer is saying they think Subaru may say it is coming from a small mark and then spidered out. I can’t even see how a rock could go ata downward angle to hit down in this area below where the wiper blades rest. I went on the website and there are many many complaints about this new vehicle’s windshield cracking - both from very small objects and on its own. I already had a transmission replaced on warranty and several other problems- as mine was the first 2019 Ascent sold in columbia, mo. In short, these windshields have been the subject of a class action and they are defective and unsafe.
Unknown. We bought the car brand new from the Subaru dealership and the original windshield is on the vehicle. There are 6+ cracks/chips in this windshield all are unexplained. The first crack happened 3 months after purchasing and the lasted crack happened 2 weeks ago.
Was driving south on the garden state parkway in woodbridge, NJ - small pebble or rock hit the passenger side black trim on windshield (original windshield). Crack immediately started to expand to about 3-4” long. The next day the crack was almost half way across the entire windshield. I now need to have the entire windshield replaced which will require my taking time off of work to take it in, since the repair shop must recalobrate the windshield safety equipment. This amount of cracking seems excessive for a 2019 vehicle especially since the initial chip was so small - not happy that this occurred on such a new vehicle in what seems like a normal situation.
Rear window glass cracked. No impact seen.
While driving at 25mph, there was a loud cracking sound and few minutes later I saw a crack in the front windshield on the left corner starting 3 inches from the bottom of the windshield. Upon further inspection, it appears the crack developed from within the windshield as there was not rough edges felt over the crack.
After having the car parked outdoors at a restaurant for an hour, I come back to the windshield cracked starting from the bottle that traveled upwards. At first I thought something may have hit my windshield while I was having lunch, but there was no indication anything had struck the windshield. The crack increased to about 24inch in length. This all happened while the car was parked in a parking lot.
All warning lights came on last week may 5th 2021 while I was drivingthecarhone after dropping my daughtertoschool. I pulled over and called the dealership and was advise to take the car in. As I drove the engine started to lag and icouldnotdrive more than 45miles. Took the car to the dealership and found out the transmission was bad. This car is 2 1/2 years old and I've had so many problems with it. When the cvt was replaced the car never run the same, I've taken it to the dealership several times and let them know that there is something wrong with the car. It lags and hesitate duribg acceleration. Unfortunately they could not replicate the issue and that it was normal. Then this happen. I have reported the issue to Subaru of America.
Windshield cracked for no reason and quickly spread over 12 inches and now effects the eye sight system.
My windshield cracked while stationary in the driveway. We did not identify any cracks or chips in the windshield that could have cause this. The crack started at the top driver side corner of the windshield.
Windshield on my Ascent 2019 cracked on driver side with no impact.
My vehicle has always been garage kept. Approximately 1 month ago, I went to get in my vehicle and noticed the windshield had a crack (approximately 6') in the passenger side. I contacted my insurance company who advised me I could either pay the deductible ($750. 00) or better yet contact Subaru, as they've had numerous complaints on Subaru windshields cracking for no apparent reason. I applied windshield repair to prevent further cracking, to no avail. Two days later, the crack spread over to the driver's side. Subaru's response was for me to bring it to my local Subaru dealer. When I went to the Subaru dealer they informed me that because I had 51,000 miles on my vehicle, Subaru would not replace the windshield and provided me with a quote of over $1,300. 00. As I am retired, my vehicle is only driven locally.
My windshield has been impacted by objects from the roadway twice and has had to be replaced each time. The first incident was in April 2019, when a chunk of ice flew off a vehicle ahead of mine and nearly shattered the entire windshield. This windshield was replaced. The replacement windshield was impacted by a small road rock while operating the vehicle in December 2020, resulting in a golf ball-sized puncture down to the adhesive sheet. Even the safelite tech remarked at the level of damage and was unable to salvage the windshield. I have never seen a road rock cause that much damage to a windshield, and I don't think there's ever been a vehicle I've owned that hasn't taken a rock at one point or another. It's unavoidable. What is not unavoidable is the clearly defective nature of these windshields. I no longer feel safe behind the wheel. That windshield will protect nothing in a high-impact situation.
Windshield cracked unexpectedly while driving on a smooth paved street. Crack expanded to over 18 inches long. Had to have windshield replaced.
This is the second time this Ascent's windshield has cracked for no apparent reason. The first time was within 60 days of purchase; it was replaced with a oem windshield by Subaru. There was no observed object impact in either case. The attached photo is of the second crack which was noticed today.
On the day that I bought the car, on my way back home, a small rock cracked the windshield. Over the next few weeks, the windshield cracked in 4 more spots. The quality seems really bad. I've never had this with any other car.
A crack appeared one morning on the drivers/middle of the windshield going from the bottom up about 8 inches then turning toward the drivers side. Took the car to the local Subaru dealer where the tech examined and at first could not locate a ding in the glass. He eventually used a ball point pen and ran it along the crack. Just behind the wiper he said he felt some resistance and that indicated a chip. He rubbed the pen tip aggressively over this point till there was some wear. I pointed out that not only was this behind the wiper but how could something so small that it took hard rubbing with the pen to provide "a source" for the crack cause the windshield to break. I suspect a defective windshield.
Window with long crack after very small rock hit windshield at lower speed (45 mph).
The front panel of my sunroof has a large crack originating from a connection point with the vehicle. I have not experienced any impacts in this area that could explain the crack. I noticed the crack when preparing to use my sunroof.
Defective glass. Windshield and moonroof glass both cracked while vehicle was stationary. Car was in covered parking.
2 windshield replacements in less than one year. 1st was November 2019 with major crack in windshield from small rock while driving hwy 60 near salome, az. Insurance replaced with oem windshield. 2nd was major crack for no apparent reason while driving on us 10 near morongo, CA in June 2020. Bumpy road, but did not hear anything hit windshield prior to it cracking. Pictures of 2nd crack attached. Replaced at own cost of $640. 77 as did not want to make another claim to insurance company in less than a year.
I have had this vehicle almost 1 year. The windshield got a chip and small "spidering" happened - photo 1. Then I was driving in the rain and a rock, I'm assuming, dinged the windshield. Didn't notice anything but it was raining. The next morning I look at the windshield and there is a big crack - photo 2. To replace this, because of eyesight, is approx. $2000! no windshield should be this sensitive. There is a problem!! my 2 previous Subarus, 2012 impreza and 2013 forester weathered rock chips like total troopers! this Ascent, not so much!.
Windshield cracked halfway across just sitting in the garage. Subaru would not cover it under warranty even though the vehicle was only a little over a year old. Will not buy another Subaru.
A crack formed in the windshield while driving starting on the left side of the vehicle, where the windshield meets the car frame. We were driving on the freeway going straight, at approx 75mph and there were no other cars around when it crack started to form. There was no rock/ item that had hit the car. In less that 24 hours, the crack grew to be 3/4 across the entire windshield. There was no area that looked like a "point of impact" and there was no "star". When speaking to the dealership, they said that many windshields these days have been cracking easier than normal, that they haven't been made well the last few years. No one at Subaru informed me out this when I was buying the car, and the model and year have been added to a list of known vehicles with windshield issues.
My complaint is that the windshield spontaneously cracks. I have replaced my windshield once last year thinking it was caused by a small rock. 5/29/20 my wife informed me that another one has formed and due to covid my wife has not left the house much while she has been working remotely.
2019 Subaru Ascent windshield cracks easily. Small rock on free way hit windshield and made a huge crack. 1st crack was repaired by a professional through insurance company, 2nd crack happened today 4/13/20.
