At 45,261 miles, the check engine lights came on and the vehicle would barely start and run. It was towed to a dealer and was again diagnosed with carbon build-up on the intake valves. This is the second occurrence in just over a year. It was repaired, and again, other than the repair, nothing was done to prevent this from happening a third time!.
At 26,453 miles, the check engins lights all came on and the vehicle wouldn't run. It was determined that the intake valves had excessive carbon build-up on them. The issue was repaired by the dealer. I contacted Subaru of America to advise them of this situation, stating that the issue will happen again because nothing was done to prevent this from recurring. If this had happened while my wife was on the freeway, or with her grandchildren, any number of disasters could have happened. This will happen again, no question. This vehicle is now unsafe for my wife to drive. (this did happen again. I will submit another report).
I had a frontal accident on March 6, 2025. When I turned to pull into the driveway of my rental apartment, I lost control of the vehicle. It surged forward, climbed a low retaining wall of about 14" and then hit a support post. I sat there stunned thinking "what just happened and how?" at first, I thought it was me, but thinking about it more, I'm wondering if this could be a potential safety problem. I have read several other similar instances on the internet, and someone I know had a similar accident which was attributed to her age. Collision repair for the Crosstrek was $10,358 done by a local facility, not Subaru. Repair of damage to the support post was $1,340. I reported this to Subaru, but after several follow-ups (last one on July 29, 2025), I still have not received a reply from Subaru. I can forward the email string to you if you want.
