Base model Subaru Forester 2019, driver experienced unintended acceleration when starting to drive following a green light in an interception. Driver had to use an evasive maneuver (veer to the left) to avoid hitting a vehicle in the front of it. The vehicle continued to accelerate without driver engaging the gas paddle. Vehicle continued to unintentionally accelerate, and driver had to use the break paddle to control the speed. The unintended acceleration lasted for about 20 seconds. After breaking to a zero speed at a red light the unintended acceleration returned for about two minutes especially following breaking. Unintended/sudden acceleration started after 5 minutes of driving at 7:15am, outside temp of 36f, hvac on, while driving a flat road. Total trip time: about 15 minutes. About six months prior to this unintended acceleration event, the same driver experienced the same situation with that same vehicle. The driver brought the vehicle to the dealership the same day and reported to Subaru about the unintended acceleration. The service team at the dealership informed the vehicle owner that the problem could not be replicated and thus there is no problem with the vehicle. There should be a log entry in Subaru database about this service visit.
I was parking at a busy ski center, car in drive as I was slowly pulling into an open space, car in first row of vehicles facing a small road. The road connects the parking lot with the ski shop . 5 mph would be normal speed on this road, where pedestrian skiers walk from the lot to the ski shop. Before I could stop to turn off the car, the engine started revving crazily, the car lurched forward and accelerated on its own. Brakes would not respond. I was able to steer onto the road, car accelerating faster and faster, no brakes, no control. There was a small car driving slowly some distance ahead, and I was gaining on it fast, a split second away from crushing it, so I deliberately swerved into a snowbank, hit some trees, and that finally stopped my car. I was unhurt. Extensive front end damage and passenger door damage front and back, and roof rack damage. Police came to the scene, car was towed by flatbed back to the dealer. Insurance paid for the repairs. Manufacturer will examine the vehicle thoroughly, will remove the "black box" to find what was the cause of unintended acceleration and loss of brakes. This examination may take 4-6 weeks. So fortunate that no one was injured or killed. I cannot estimate what speed the car reached on its own.
At/about 1230 central time on 31 oct 2019, my wife (rebecca hines) experienced an uncommanded acceleration event in our 2014 Subaru Forester and narrowly escaped being killed. Context: my wife was taking the car through an automated carwash at the caseys gas station at 9911 s. 71st st in papillion ne. When she reached the end of the conveyor belt and when signalled by the attendant to move forward, she stepped on the brake and attempted to move the automatic transmission from n (neutral) to d (drive). She encountered resistance moving the gear lever but was able to move it to d. Upon doing so, the car abruptly accelerated and lurched forward despite her foot remaining on the brake. The car rapidly accelerated and tore through the closed garage door at the end of the carwash and continued outside, across an access road and up a small hill, before losing power and rolling backwards down the hill to stop in the access road. No other vehicles or persons were involved or injured. My wife was uninjured other than being sprayed by glass fragments from the windshield as it was punctured by the garage door as the car tore through it. Our insurance company (usaa) declared the car a total loss. Neither my wife nor I had ever experienced anything like this incident before; we both have excellent driving records. Weather at the time of this incident was clear, dry and sunny. The car to the best of our knowledge was in excellent mechanical condition. The papillion ne police dept responded and filed a report, and we filed a drivers motor vehicle accident report. Both are on file with the papillion ne police dept. There were also several witnesses to this incident per the police report.

My mother was pulling her car out of the garage when it suddenly accelerated & shot down the driveway, across the street, thru the neighbor's house and landed in their backyard. The car just missed my father in the driveway and the neighbors in their house. The insurance adjuster said the car was airborne when it went thru the front door based on the damage to the front door & the skid marks on the tile in the hallway. The air bags didn't deploy. The car is a total loss. A few months prior to this my mother was parking the car when it suddenly accelerated. It crossed the sidewalk at the store & hit another car. At the time she thought that her foot must have slipped off the brake. My father drove it a few weeks after that & said it wanted to accelerate while he was stopped at a red light with his foot on the brake. The failure mileage was approx. 72,000.

As I was easing into a parking space in my townhome community in front of my neighbor's house, the car suddenly accelerated on its own and jumped the curb, landing on the sidewalk and pushing in the wall of the house. Airbags did not go off and luckily nobody was home or standing on the sidewalk. I was not injured. The car sustained minimal damage (bumper was askew) but the house wall needed to be replaced and the tenants were unable to live there for two weeks.

Vehicle experienced an occurrence of sudden unintended acceleration. I had my foot on the brake and was easing into a parking space. All of a sudden, the engine revved, and the vehicle surged and began to move forward on its own accord. I was unable to stop it using the brake. The vehicle went over 2 parking curbs and shrubbery and was headed into traffic. Vehicle was moving at about 20-25 mph so I was able to steer it and avoided traffic by turning right, staying on parking lot grass & rock barrier. Car went into gully and eventually stopped on its own. Dealership was unable to find problem. Contacted corporate office who had vehicle inspected by auto engineering firm and no problem detected. Since some recurrent issues reported on safety boards, decision made to trade in vehicle. Dealership repaired damage to the vehicle and now has car up for sale; we have many concerns about this vehicle being sold to unsuspecting customer.
On January 26, 2019, at 8:00 pm, in a parking deck at a shopping center, I was in a line of cars making a right turn into an aisle. I tapped the accelerator very lightly to move a few feet forward. The car unexpectedly and suddenly accelerated greatly, and I immediately put my foot on the brake as hard as possible to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the car in front of me because hitting the brake didn't immediately slow the car down. I was able to avoid hitting anything, but it was a frightening experience because the car was out of control. This was clearly a case of sudden unintended acceleration.

Vehicle was turning right into residential garage. Driver experienced sudden unintended acceleration and struck the wall of the garage, causing extensive damage to the structure and the vehicle. The airbags did not deploy, despite the fact that the vehicle struck the residence with sufficient force to shear several 2x6 studs and 1/2" osb siding. The front end of the vehicle sustained approximately $15k in damage the driver was well-rested and had 20+ years experience driving a similar size japanese SUV with no accidents.
On 9/29/18, 1:35 pm while in the process of parking the vehicle and initiating a turn to the right the car suddenly accelerated from idle to full throttle unintentionally and launched itself towards a 12' x 20' wood framed outbuilding on our property which has an attached deck. Before the vehicle could be shut off it had jumped up onto the deck and smashed into and partially penetrated the front of the outbuilding. Forward progress was halted when the rear portion of the car had become high centered on the edge of the deck. Presently the car is still on the deck and partially in the building. The right rear wheel is I" off the ground. The left rear wheel dug itself 3" down into the gravel. - no one was injured during this accident. The car was occupied by only the driver. - the airbag did not deploy even though the car experienced two (2) significant impact events. 1st when it hit a temporary wood step and the edge of the deck (18" above grade) and 2nd when it struck the building. Most of the bumper was torn off the car when it hit the deck and is now pinned under the car. The impact shifted the building approx. 3/8" on it's post & pier foundation. - this report was written & submitted on 10/1/18. - a wrecker is scheduled to extricate the car from the outbuilding on 10/2/18. - the driveway and parking area where this occurred is crushed rock/gravel. - the distance from where the car instantly accelerated to the edge of the deck was approximately 22 feet. The face of the outbuilding is 8 feet from the edge of the deck. The distance covered by the car during this accident was approx. 30 plus feet. - during this event an attempt was made to control/stop the car with extreme application of the foot brake and handbrake and ultimately the stop button. - it was a dry, sunny, early fall day in the west side of the cascade mountains in washington state.
July 6, 2018 driving on city street when my foot had the brake depressed and the auto suddenly accelerated so much that I had to turn into a curb to avoid a collision with another vehicle - I hit a curb with one tire to avoid accident and had to get four new tires because it is awd. Today my brake was depressed and it accelerated when I was in reverse then attempting to get SUV into drive - driving down my daughter's driveway today, it accelerated so rapidly unintended that pressing the brake would not stop vehicle - engaged emergency brake and it still did not stop it - placed it into park and pressing brake continuously and emergency brake engaged, finally stopped the car at roadside after turning off ignition - very hazardous safety issue - lucky no one was hurt or killed - this SUV is a dangerous vehicle - having it towed by aaa tomorrow morning to dealer. What can I do about this? it has only 41,870 miles on it - bought it brand new from the dealer in may 2014 and I am only driver. Help!.

I was backing up my 2005 Subaru Forester in a downtown, street-level corner parking lot. When I put my vehicle into reverse, a sudden unintended acceleration propelled my vehicle backwards across the parking lot, across a two-lane downtown street, up onto the opposite sidewalk and culminated in my vehicle crashing into a city light pole, which stopped the vehicle. I estimate I was traveling at 25-30 mph when I hit the light pole. I missed two pedestrians by mere inches and fortunately missed hitting any other cars. I had my foot hard on the brake the entire 4-5 seconds of the incident, and almost broke the gear shift, madly trying to shift into park. My vehicle is totaled and I am totally freaked out by the entire nightmarish experience! this was a deadly sequence of events which easily could have changed my life and others' lives. I will never own another Subaru. This occurred on Thursday, April 26, 2018.
