Traveling on an interstate at 70mph, car check engine light came on and car lost all power. Was able to limp off the road and wait 3 hours for a tow to dealership. Diagnosis; stage 4 blown head gasket. There was no prior warning or symptoms and could have been a greater danger if heavier traffic. Head gasket problems know on early model Subaru's.

The vehicle was traveling along the highway at around 65-75mph and we went up a grade (cuesta grade) along 101 freeway in California and vehicle had a sudden loss in power while climbing up the hill. Ultimately, no power was ever regained and the vehicle shut off completely and stopped. We were stuck on the side of the road and had to call 911 to have a chp offer park behind us so that we would not be hit because we were partially in the lane. The car could not move so we had to have it towed to a Subaru dealership. We received a check engine light, vehicle emissions controls, hill assist, and the car was shaking. Subaru recently made a recall on models that have had a loss of power but my vehicle is not on the list but I did experience everything mentioned in the recall. Can you assist?.

We have a 2017 Subaru Forester xt touring model 2. 0 turbo engine with approximately 20,000 miles. Wife and son were traveling to a wedding when check engine light came on no sooner did light come on heavy smoke filled inside of car from air vents heavy smoke was coming out from under hood also waited for smoke to clear noticed oil all over engine had vehicle towed to Subaru dealership service manager called and said there was a hole in engine block I asked him how could happen he said it could be faulty engine this vehicle is a fire hazard my family could of been seriously been injured if vehicle caught fire while they were driving or passed out due to heavy smoke inside vehicle vehicle was in motion traveling on paved black surface road this vehicle should be recalled completely.
While driving normal speeds, the car's check engine light came on. I scanned the code, the car is getting a p0016 code, and the car has a rough idle. The wilsonville Subaru dealer has said that a new ecm and cam sprocket needs to be replaced in order for this issue to be fixed. The issue seems to be a factory defect with the cam sprocket, "coming apart" and causing the engine to lose timing. This seems to be a common issue people are having online with this engine as well. Anad, apparently the issue will come back if the ecm isn't replaced as the ecm "hard codes" the error in the computer and it wont go away unless replaced. Making the issue unresolvable outside of drivetrain warranty without Subaru's assistance. Subaru is refusing to do the repairs.

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that their vehicle came out of park after cutting the engine off. This happened every time the contact parked the vehicle and took their key out. The contact stated that they parked their vehicle, took the key out of the ignition. When they did so, just after taking the key out of the ignition. The vehicle shifted out of the park position. The check engine warning light did illuminate. The vehicle was taken to schomp Subaru 580 s havana st, aurora, CO 80012 (720) 343-2210 where the mechanics had no idea how to service the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,500. Jw.

Driving in the freeway around 20-30mph, some traffic. On the way to dropping daughters off to school. On the freeway switched lanes then car lost power and decelerated on its own quickly from 20mph to about 1mph, pressing the didn't do anything. Almost got hit by the rear driver behind me. Managed to move to right lane. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing, several lights on the dashboard appeared which included check engine light, traction control, oil light. Turned off the car to find the number for towing about 15 minutes later turned on the car and this time pressing the gas pedal made the car go, dashboard lights still on. Took the car directly to the dealership. Dealer claimed it was a bad cell on the battery that caused the problem, and also reprogrammed the computer. Bad cell on battery will not cause this to happen. Dealer also failed to write the details of the incident. Initial paperwork stated check engine light. Advice dealer to properly document incident.
On February 13, 2019 my transmission fluid light started flashing, when I was driving home. I stopped to by the fluid but couldn't find out where to fill it up at and the dipstick was stuck. I was driving around 40 mph. . I took it to my mechanic and asked him to check it out. He said it wasn't the fluid that was the problem it was the transmission. Previous to this the light never flashed and when my check engine light goes on I do get I checked to see it its serious or not. Chat conversation start 76k people like this cars 7:55 pm hi, I bought a used 2007 Subaru Forester and it has required a couple of large repairs that you wouldn't expect. In 2015 I had to replace the oil head gasket at relatively low miles 70k and now in 2019 at 104k miles I have to replace the transmission. Is common in the Subarus? thank you, jeanne laseman.

When driving the car starts to jerk and hesitate alot when accelerating happens quite frequently which causes the check engine light to come on so then you take it get it plugged in on little machine tells you something so you fix that issue thinking it's all better but nope still continues to happen might be good for a few weeks to a month but always continues to happen and makes it impossible to go up hills or anything because there is barely any acceleration.

I was driving down a highway going up a bridge over the mississippi river at about 65mph when a bunch of lights came on and my engine completely stopped. I could not accelerate at all and I had to switch from the left-hand lane to the right -hand lane to get onto the shoulder. This was an extremely unsafe condition. My car speed and went to 65 mph to about 0 mph in the matter of a minute. I do you see that many people on the internet have complained about the same type of incident happening. This needs to be addressed immediately by Subaru. My check engine light came on my emissions control light came on in my traction control light came on. Luckily I was able to safely get to the shoulder while 65 mph cars were zooming past me. I was able to restart my car and make it to the dealership. Hopefully they will be able to come up with a resolution for the issue that I am seeing. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of folks on the internet are having similar issues and they are not being addressed.
Our son bought a 2009 Subaru Forester on 7/13/18 from the dan perkins Subaru dealership in milford, CT. He was driving it home at noon on 8/16/18 when his check engine light came on. Within seconds the car filled with smoke, and went up in flames. The entire car was lost.
Engine and vehichle caught on fire. Driving highway for about 3. 5 hours. Had just refilled with fuel about 15 minutes prior to check engine light coming on. Proceeded to next exit. Check oil light came on and car was on fire. Vehicle destroyed.
Hello- I am experiencing continued issues after recall: 16v-738. I began attempting to resolve this issue in September of 2016. The issue impacts the secondary air system and my vehicle would not pass CA smog. I have to have a passing smog to renew my CA registration. I failed smog and sent the vehicle to my mechanic. My mechanic performed diagnosis and determined stored p2441 and p2443 codes (secondary air valves open). Around the same time, October 2016, Subaru released recall: 16v-738. This addresses a single relay in the secondary air series. I proceeded to schedule and take my vehicle into rancho grande Subaru in san luis obispo. I also opened a claim with Subaru corporate customer support sr #:1-19856672948). Subaru began working on my vehicle mid October 2016 and placed me in a rental SUV. I did not receive any communication from Subaru, so I followed up. The tech informed me the vehicle is ready to be picked up mid November. I visited, picked up the vehicle, drove it 3 miles and heard a loud screech from the secondary air pump. I returned the vehicle, informed the tech and he rudely responded "was that noise happening when you dropped it off". No, I responded and they resisted placing me in a rental for another 3 weeks. Late December, I followed up once again due to lack of communication and the vehicle was ready 3 days later. I drove the vehicle 200 miles and now the same check engine light is on, traction control light is flashing and vehicle intermittently accelerated. I checked the codes and the same codes remain. I feel the scope of components requires all components in the secondary air system to be replaced. The faulty relay was on the on position and has exhausted all the components in the series. . What has been happening is I will be driving down the road (does not matter how fast I am going) and all of a sudden all the lights come on and I lose acceleration and control of vehicle. Each time it has been towed to Subaru they cannot recreate the problem so it cannot be fixed. This last time I was on a very busy road going about 55 mph and all of a sudden again my check engine lights etc came on and I lost acceleration and power. I quickly checked my rearview mirror to make sure no one was too close behind me. It was very scary and I was able to coast and abruptly turn into an enterprise rental. I was lucky I was not hit from behind or have my kids in car. This last time too when the tow truck arrived the car would not turn on. I am now completely uncomfortable driving a car that consistently has had the same issue that no one can fix.
2012 Subaru Forester. Consumer stated the windows glass will not close. The head rest is not installed properly. Rear hatch door will not close without being slammed and opened while driving. Check engine light indicates a code of misfiring on two cylinders. The consumer stated if the driver and passenger windows were lowered when driving at highway speeds, the window glass shifted out beyond the channel in the door and the windows would not close. The consumer stated he had to listen to a high-pitched squeal while driving. The dealer did confirm a problem existed, but there was no solution.

I took my car in based on a recall sent by my dealership for my 2006 Subaru Forester ll bean model original owner. They completed to service recalls on my vehicle none of which are listed on this website. Wvl22 and wvu31. The wvu31 was to reprogram my ecm. As I was driving home afterwards the check engine light immediately came on and my cruise light began to flash. I called the dealer immediately who advised it was safe to drive if the check engine light was solid and not flashing which it was. He denied it could be related to the wvu31 reprogram of the ecm but I advised that my vehicle was fine not due for any service and had no issues prior to bringing to the dealership for the reprogram. I now have to return the car to the dealership and they said only "if the check engine light is related to the recall" would they fix it. I believe this is definetely caused by the reprogram of the ecm and there are a multitude of complaints on a website regarding many people complaining that within miles of driving after the wvu31 reprogram fix that the same thing happened and they were all told that they had to fix something or repair something at a cost. This is unconcienable as I now have to return to a dealership that is out of my way, miss work and return the vehicle and only hope that they do not claim it is another problem. If they do then I am stuck with another repair. I believe that this wvu 31 reprogram is defective and is causing issues that are leading to additional and unnecessary repairs. My car was just fine and believe had I done nothing as I am planning to buy a new car this year it would have been fine. But I tried to do the right thing and take it in for service due to the recall notice. I believe this is totally error prone.

This problem has been getting progressively worst. The car has been having troubles turning over on cold starts, and has experienced a loss of propulsion and stall going up hill including a loss of brakes since I bought it a year ago. On 9/6/2014 the car was started and was idling high (approximately 4000rpm), check engine light was on, speed control light was on, incline alert light on, sport mode light was on and check emissions system light was on. Had to move the car out of the garage and it barely made it up the incline in the underground garage as it was not responding to the accelerator, called for a tow which never arrived and tried to restart out of frustration all lights were off and car I made it to the dealer which was not far away. Have already had the dealer inspect the car once to get to the bottom of the problem and they reported their diagnostics showed nothing was wrong and that car electrical\computer problems cannot be fixed until they break completely (or someone is hurt or injured perhaps). There was one more report similar to this on carcomplaints. Com that occurred at high speed. Seems to me that car is not safe at this point.

Their was a clunk and driver car pulled over and off highway . Had it towed to our independent garage. The engine failed. The check engine light never went on nor did the low oil pressure light go on.
The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that whenever the check engine warning light illuminated, the cruise control would independently disable without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was working according to standards. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 8,650 and the current mileage was 11,626.
I had a check engine light come on. Pulled the code and ran it by a friend who is a Subaru mechanic. After realizing this is a smog issue contacted dealer who said its not covered under emissions warranty. I know this is false as parts are to be covered by law up to 100k miles. Now it's going to cost $1600+ to repair this issue in order to pass smog. On a 5 year old car. Below is a posting from mechanic notifying forums, facebook, and anyone else who will listen of the issue (there are good mechanics out there). One of the issues we have been hearing a lot about, getting calls on, and personally seeing for ourselves is these air injection solenoids having issues on the 06+ model vehicles. Remember the air pump is suppose to only run for a short moment under start up (it injects oxygen into the exhaust to burn off the excess fueling at the catalytic converters so they will lite off). Here you can see both of these bad solenoids and how gummed up they're getting from exhaust gases and moisture. The check valve gets damaged forcing it to be stuck open, which causes constant hot exhaust gases to run through these parts, you can see the seal on the plunger is literally destroyed from the heat. I really hope soa realizes this is not an issue that's going to go away. In the last week we have taken 5 phone calls in regards to this and today we are fixing a customers. . . Which in time will have the same fate as his last ones unfortunately. Hopefully soa steps up and has a revision and/or compensation (warranty) in place for this issue in near future. Subaru current warranty rebuttal is they claim these parts are not an "emissions" related component but it clearly is and they need to admit to it and fix this issue. Subaru owners need help and should get refunds for the costs of repairs thus far!.

For some odd reason on Monday, April 23 my check engine light came on, my awd indicator, and the cruise control light started flashing all at once. I came into work and googled the above items along with my make and model of the car. . . Much to my surprise multiple links, items, and threads appeared. So I read most of them and this appears to be a systemic problem with Subaru's throughout the united states and canada. I became concerned because no recall was issued and it seems more than coincidence that many people are having the same issue. Please advise since I called the Subaru dealer and they could have cared less.
I bought the car in may of 2008. On Feb. 29, the check engine light and the traction control light came on, as well as the cruise control light started flashing. I thought, why? I've only had it for almost 4 years and less than 50k miles. I checked my owner's manual, and the covered warranty is 5 yrs/ 50k miles, whichever comes first. I brought it to the dealership where I had bought the car from and an employee said that it is more than likely covered by warranty. On March 7th, 2012, I left my car at the dealership for diagnosis. They called me back, and informed me that it is not covered under warranty, because CA emission warranty is 3 yrs/50k miles whichever comes first. I told them that the owner's manual suggests that the warranty is 5 yrs/50k miles. The diagnosis codes were p2441 and that not only I spent $138 on diagnosis, the total cost to repair it is $1305. I declined the repair, because I, for one cannot afford it at this time, because I am on disability. I thought that they should honor Subaru's warranty. I checked various Subaru message boards, and I am not the only one with the same problem. A known Subaru specialist in our area also posted on a message board that they've gotten numerous calls about the same problem. They took pictures and sent it to Subaru. As of right now, we haven't heard anything from Subaru about any recalls. I think it should be recalled. Thank you for your time.
The check engine light illuminated and the cruise control light was flashing upon starting the engine. No other engine symptoms presented themselves. Took vehicle to independent repair shop and was informed the front converter is damaged in addition to the front sensor being bad. Ended up having them all replaced at substantial cost of approx. $2,000. 00. Additional research done in a Subaru Foresters owners forum shows that many owners are experiencing costly and unnecessary repairs due to faulty O2 sensors, not bad catalytic converters. Any expenses current owners have had to incur should be reimbursed by Subaru to those owners, and a recall should be issued to other owners to prevent unnecessary and costly repairs.
The contact owns a 2007 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated upon starting. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter was damaged. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Check engine light came on after driving the car about 472 miles. Called dealer repair, which instated that it was just the gas cap loose, which he had us remove and retighten. We were advised to keep driving it and that the check engine light would eventually go out. We drove it for a few more days and then had two different local mechanics shops check the code on the check engine light. Both said that the engine was misfiring, either random misfire, or misfire on cylinders 3 and 4. We called the dealer again, who said that the mechanics didn't know what they were doing and were wrong, but that we should bring the car in next week. We brought the car in on 8/30/11, with about 872 miles now on it and the check engine light still on. The dealer checked the car and said the some cam shaft adjusters were not set properly at the factory and that they would have to add a shim kit to correct this! (on a new car!) the next day, car still didn't work, they had to called Subaru manufacturer and tried at least 5 other procedures and car still doesn't work. The car is defective and should not have been sold as a new car. They have had the cover over 10 days now and still not fixed. We just want a new car, and get out of that one. Please help.

At about 25,000 miles my 2001 Forester stalled 3 times in my driveway and shook a bit. I had the idiot-new-owner-package with the dealer where they did all the maintenance, etc. And was scheduled for an oil change/whatever maintenance anyway so I asked them to check it out. They could not reproduce the problem and it did not happen again to me until several months later. Now at 38,000 miles (3000 miles after warranty and after the end of the idiot-package) it happened again. This time it stalled on several occasions both in parking lots and at stop lights. It shook at an idle and the check engine light came on. A local shop diagnosed the problem as a failed coil pack. He also noted that the apparent cause was that it appeared no maintenance had ever been done. The spark plug change and a 30k mile tune up that were on my service tickets as having been performed were probably not actually done. There was no way to prove that without towing the car to Subaru at my expense and then probably having them still claim the service had been done. I drive very conservatively, don't speed, don't take off quickly and live in a moderate temperature/weather area (northern va). There is no reason that with proper maintenance this should have happened. Subaru of America says it is a dealer problem. The dealer claims no wrong doing. I can dispute the point and have it towed to another dealer for verification of the lack of proper maintenance, which we all know will not be their finding or pay the $530 repair straightaway. I chose the latter. Is there anything I can do now to get Subaru to refund the cost of repair?.
