1 Engine problem of the 2006 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

Vehicle was repaired several months ago pursuant to a safety recall involving the fuel filter. As a result, the catalytic converters were damaged and required replacement, conducted as part of the recall. Recently, the vehicle unexpectedly overheated and caused significant damage to the engine, without any check engine sensor or other indicator signifying such a problem.

2 Engine problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/14/2010

I purchased a 2004 Subaru forrester xt in February of '09 with 93,008 miles on it. The dealership had all service records relating to the vehicles history, and all guidelines were followed according to the manufacturer's specifications. The current mileage on the vehicle is 102,323 and I was just informed that the turbocharger is coming apart and needs replaced or the vehicle will be non-operational. I contacted Subaru of north America and they informed me that there was nothing that they could do, which I understand. My main problem is that the representative that I talked to informed me that the manufacturer changed its guidelines for later models of the vehicle to a shorter recommended interval between services. These models have the same engine and turbocharger as my vehicle and they changed the scheduled maintenance from 7,500 miles to 3,500 miles. I understand the power train coverage expired at 5 years or 60,000 miles but my main concern is that they had changed their service requirement for a reason. The mechanic shop that I have taken the vehicle to has had service bulletins on this problem concerning the turbochargers. It states vehicles that are turbocharged should have the oil changed every 3,750 miles to prevent failure/ damage to the turbo and that I was not to drive it or the engine could seize up and cause a crash.

3 Engine problem of the 2000 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

200 Subaru Forester blows head gasket for third time. Fixed twice under manufacturer's recall. Third time, Subaru reports they will assist with half of payment because recall was discontinued in 2008. "repair" completed under recall, but wasn't really repaired. This consumer feels that I should not be responsible for any of this. Repair needs to be completed and stay repair at manufacturer's cost.

Engine caught fire while the car was driven. Corresponds to NHTSA campaign number: 7v043000.

5 Engine problem of the 2006 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

I have a hesitation when accelerating from a stop caused by my vehicle's drive by wire throttle body. This hesitation is ongoing despite an ecm reprogramming done by the dealer on 12/16/08. It is bad enough that I'm afraid I'm going to get into a collision sometime.

6 Engine problem of the 2006 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/20/2006

There are two problems with the 2006 Subaru Forester that I have. It has less than 5000 miles on it and continually fails to start, whether from a cold start or a warm start. The engine will attempt to crank but will not catch and actually turn over. This issue has happened multiple times. I took the car into the dealership and they stated that I had to hold the ignition switch in the acc position to "prime the lines. " I've never head of having to prime a car in this day and age. However, I since have tried doing that and the issue still persists. Also, the care will surge in power at various speeds. When I let up on the gas when trying to slow down ,the car will actually rev up. This happened in the snow the other day and I almost completely lost control of the car. If that car is going to surge like this it completely negates the purpose of having all wheel drive. This is a grave safety concern. I thought Subaru's were supposed to be good cars. I guess I thought wrong. I've taken the car in for the surge issue and the dealership said there was nothing they could do and that there were no recalls for the problem.

2002 Subaru Forester hesitates and lurches dangerously as if fuel is not getting to the engine. When pulling on to a street or highway, the vehicle won't pick up speed and creates a safely hazard and potential rear end accidents.

10 Engine problem of the 2005 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

My 2005 Subaru Forester, has been serviced regularly at dwyer and sons Subaru dealership in commerce, michigan. During all scheduled maintenance, I've always discussed with their service department that I have a potential problem with the engine. The engine would downshift very hard or seemed like something was "banging. " or running very rough. The rpm would also seem to run lower than normal. Every time I made them aware of the problem, while the vehicle was under warranty, the dealership was never able to diagnose the problem. So, every time I brought the car in thereafter, I told them to make note of the issue and that it hasn't gone away. Again, they would road test the car and always state that they found nothing wrong. Now, the vehicle is just out of warranty and the dealership stated they found the problem. This problem would require an entire engine rebuild on a engine that is meticulously taken care of and only has 75,000 miles on it. This repair they were just able to diagnose is going to cost $5,900. They indicated the dealership would only pay $1,500 toward the repair. I told them I am not responsible for this, especially since they've acknowledged the problem existed before and I made them aware multiple times. This engine problem had pre-existed right from the factory, and their are potentially other Subaru Foresters with the same problem. I should not be held financially responsible for this engine repair and feel Subaru should be held accountable for allowing this vehicle to be sold and be responsible for the repair or, a new engine all together.

12 Engine problem of the 2001 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/28/2004

My 2001 Subaru Forester has a blown head gasket. It appears, after searching the internet and other sources, that this is a major problem that affects all phase 2 2. 5 l engines made by Subaru between 1999 & 2002. There are numerous internet web pages with complaints from all over the country. Why hasn't Subaru been ordered to recall these engines, they're adanger to the driving public!.

13 Engine problem of the 2004 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/17/2004

Car producing noxious odor inside. When parking car in garage, accidentally stepped on accelerator rather than brake. Hit and destroyed back wall. Cosmetic damage to car. Dealer claims leaves were sucked into the engine compartment through turbocharge intake. But, odor was of burnt rubber or plastic, not leaves. And, the car is always parked in the garage. Finally, most leaves were down several weeks earlier this year, I. E. , by end of November.
