Subaru Forester owners have reported 10 problems related to vehicle shudder (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Subaru Forester based on all problems reported for the Forester.
First, driving on the highway the air conditioner stopped working. Second, the very next day, the vehicle began to make noises (squealing) when driving it anywhere. Streets, turns, hills etc. Then it began race and it felt as if the back tires were racing to catch up to the front tires. There was lurching forward. Shuddering. No dashboard warning lights came on. I called the dealership, then took it to the dealership. It was scary to drive it there. I felt like the transmission was going up. Third, the tailgate, ( in or out) release buttons were not working consistently (repeat complaint). I left the vehicle at the dealership and telephoned Subaru of America. This 2018; I had owned for exactly two months. I had only driven the car approx 1200 miles total. Mileage 47,000. The dealer has repaired the ac and cvt transmission. The ac is a known problem and it was the condenser that was leaking and needed replaced. The cvt is also a known problem. The service tech test drove the vehicle and able to duplicate concern. He found the rpm increased and the squealing could be heard. Vehicle would shudder. When he removed the pan he found metal in the oil. Confirming the cvt (transmission) needed replaced. Repairs were made under the extended warranty. Given the information found on the web regarding these problems it was important to report that these problems continue. Safety is concern.

Around 75k miles, the "at temp" light began to appear when driving the car for more than 35-40 minutes on the highway at continuous speeds. No code was stored when it was brought to the dealership. I have pictures of this light being on numerous times. This happened between may 2019-August 2019 then the vehicle began to shudder when coming to a complete stop, with occasional stalls/shutdowns. No lights would come out during shudder or stall. This happened between may 2019-February 2020 at 98k, vehicle began to jerk and shudder during shifting, around 2500rpm upon acceleration. I had a transmission service/ cvt fluid change done at 90k at johnston's Subaru in middletown, NY. Transmission service was done 2/3/2020.

Since I have bought the car I've been having electrical issues with it it's always saying that a key is not detected even though the keys right next to it or underneath that they already has been a transmission leakage also the balance of the car has been off-balance so I had to take it back to them when the air conditioner was on when it was summer is there making a weird noise I recorded the noise I showed it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with that even though I have proof that there was something wrong with it but I just didn't know where was coming from alsoalso a little crack on the windshield randomly came out like about three weeks ago and never had an issue with that until now and when I start out my car and I had to do it at the first break at a stop sign my car started shaking and then it stopped shaking and then that's the only time does the shakiness I've had so many issues with this forrester 2017 they try to fix it issues but when they fix it something new always comes up.

I bought the car a month ago around March 10,2018 from glanzmann Subaru. After 2 weeks of driving, the car was shaking and had trouble accelerating intermittently when at stop signs or at low speeds. After words I noticed when the car is around 80 mph, sometimes the rpms go up but there is no torque. I was told to drop the car off at the service station which I did and after 4 days got the car back but they said they "could not replicate" the issue that I was having. I also get 18mpg while the advertised mpg is around 25. I should atleast get 22mpg. I have a very good feeling I was sold a car with a clutch that was on its way out. The dealer is not acknowledging the issue but I was able to replicate the issue on my way from the service center. I was told I would be able to drive the car with a tech but on the day of the pickup , the tech was unavailable. It has become a safety issue because sometimes when merging into a highway or turning into streets from a center lane the car does not have good pick uplike it is suppose. I know my car is an issue because the loaner that I got from glanzsmann was also a Forester and I could tell the difference right away. Thank you.

Car was shaking during accleration, street n highway, esp low gears, less after getting up to ~50 mph. Cv boot leaking. Replaced axle. Car still shaking with acceleration. Mgt have to try replacing other frt axle. Only 82000. Just had to replace transmission also! I don't know what system that calls under . . . Transmission went about 81000, June ~8th . I had couple incidences of car not accelerating when pressing pedal. Just thought I was mb imagining it. Next morning. No forward. . Only reverse. . =transmission! idk, if transmission being rebuilt and removal of axles could have a relationship. Shorty thereafter. . Can't really say if I'm sure when shaking began but I know I said something when I picked it up and again a week later. . Idk, as a girl,. Every where I go, guys keep saying,. . . "that's normal". I can scan docs if needed later for repairs. Mo ile site doesn't allow me to add speed or mileage but listed above. .

Vehicle is unstable due to stalling and lurching forward under all throttle ranges. Vehicle may "chug" at variable driving speeds. The failure is intermittent and varies from subtle to heavy effects. Severe effects causes vehicle to shudder and/or stall then abruptly accelerate. Issue does not appear to be related to "turbo lag" as it occurs under low boost conditions. Transmission also produces "clicking" sound when engaging from neutral or under changes in speed. Condition occurs throughout all driving modes (I, s, s#). Condition occurs mostly under acceleration from dead stop, but may also occur under "pick up" acceleration, ie off throttle to decelerate (55mph-45mph) then light throttle to resume driving speed. Vehicle may also backfire under acceleration. Vehicle may hesitate for several seconds before acceleration from stop or at highway speed than upon resuming acceleration vehicle may have a flat/slow acceleration in spite of heavy throttle. Factory authorized repairs attempted to remedy condition by cleaning throttle body and "upper engine" cleanse and states unable to replicate failure. Condition has been on-going from purchase with approximately 30k mile to current with 74k miles.

In October of 2013, I purchased by way of lease, a brand new 2014 Subaru Forester. Right after purchasing a 2014 Subaru Forester I began to have issues with the oil consumption in my vehicle. In example, before my first oil change of 3,000 miles, I had to have my car assessed by the oil technicians as the oil light kept coming on. The oil technicians would “top” off my fluids and along I went. Sadly, after having my 3,000 mile oil change, I continued to have issues with oil consumption. I think I paid a visit to the oil technicians at least once every 6 weeks or so; so much so that the oil technicians were tired of seeing my vehicle. I practically developed a personal relationship with the oil technicians. If they did not know me by name, they were at least familiar with my vehicle. To make a long story longer, this month (September) or better stated less than a year of having a 2014 in my possession, while still being in the year 2014 with 3 months left to go in this year, I had some major work done to my vehicle. Up to and including a replacement of the engine. Please see the attached invoice to see all the items that were replaced. Now you are problem asking well how many miles are on the car? there are only 7,600 miles on the vehicle. In other words I put maybe 760 miles on my vehicle per month in less than a year. Opportunity: clearly, I was sold a high priced lemon; a dud. In order to improve on customer satisfaction, it is in my opinion that Subaru should provide me with a 2014 Subaru Forester that is not defective or one that does not have design flaws. No vehicle with less than 8,000 miles and less than a year old should require an engine replacement. Please be advised that after the work was done now the car has a vibration and feels as if it is going to shut off.
Around 100k miles my 2001 Subaru Forester (manual transmission) experienced severe hesitation and missing (bucking) in all gears, resulting in a loss of power. The timing belt was replaced and mechanic assured me everything with the timing belt and clutch was ok. Within a few days the car experienced the same severe jolting as before. In lower gears car accelerates extremely slowly, and often stalls after the severe shaking. This is a potentially very dangerous problem; while taking a left out of my neighborhood, my car began to shake violently and stalled, and I was almost struck by oncoming traffic.
