1 Warnings problem of the 2025 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 06/18/2026

While backing up into a parking space, my wifes car made contact with a dumpster, which started on the drivers side corner of the rear bumper. The backup sensor did not sound until it was too late. This was a low-speed maneuver that normally would allow for enough reaction time. I (husband) tried a similar maneuver when she got home and encountered a delayed backup sensor notification from both the drivers side and passenger side rear corners of the car. We have small children in our neighborhood, and fear this could have been a child.

2 Warnings problem of the 2021 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 05/14/2026

My Subaru Forester has a significant safety defect. If my web searches are representative this software problem affects multiple models and years of Subaru. I have addressed this problem with the local dealer, Subaru America, and Subaru japan and have been told "that is the way it was designed and it is supposed to do that. " as you may imagine that is not a satisfactory answer to a significant safety issue; I can only imagine Ford saying the pinto was designed with a gas tank that explodes in a collision or a more recent takata claiming that their seatbelts were designed that way. So here is the problem in a nutshell (and I have a host of emails from various levels of Subaru if you want the details of how I have attempted to get them to address the issue. ) there is a sensor on the gas cap that detects if it is not fully closed since that is a pollution control issue. (more on that later) when that sensor is activated, it disables the Subaru eyesight system and when the eyesight system is disabled it disables every safety feature except the seatbelt and it lights up the dash with a dozen alarms none of which have anything to do with the gas cap. That takes down collision avoidance, lane changing, and autodim headlights among others. It also wants you to check the engine and consult the users manual. None of that has anything to do with the actual situation. Now I have taken the car to the dealer who assures me it is operating as designed and there is no fault in the sensor. When you close the gas cap there are audible clicks and as a 190 pound man I can assure you that the cap is fully closed when I close it. But on a random basis the dashboard lights up despite the fact that the gas cap is fully engaged and the safety systems become disabled. Usually it stays lit up until I refill the tank, but its behavior is not predictable - occasionally it just resets as I drive. Besides the obvious hazard of having safety systems which do not work, havi.

3 Warnings problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 10/05/2025

While I was driving on a major road, the car appeared to sense an issue and automatically started to brake. While I was a road with 55mph drivers, my car was forcing me to stop. May warning light appeared; eyesight issue, check engine, brake and many others. I was able to disengage the crash prevention manually and continue to drive. When I took it to my mechanic, he told me all the codes went to a technical service bulletin for the thermo control valve. He reset the codes and told me to take it to Subaru for an under warranty repair. Once I left the mechanic, I was travelling home and the car had the same issues, again while driving on a very busy road. This time I could not disengage the system, and I struggled to get the car over to the left shoulder. It was very narrow, and not safe. I ended up having to have the car towed to the dealer. The dealer did fix the car, under warranty. However, twice I was caught on busy roads in a very dangerous situation. I am very glad that I was not injured, nor those that came to rescue me. But this should not have happened. The technical service bulletin was issued on April of 2024 and I had no idea.

4 Warnings problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 03/31/2025

1) the seat is cracking on the drivers seat. The vehicle only has 64,000 miles on it. No word from Subaru. 2) parking collision warning system works part of the time. Dangerous when the system does not detect a person or vehicle in the blind spot.

5 Warnings problem of the 2019 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

I recently bought this vehicle (used) with ~1900 miles. After 1. 5 months of owning the vehicle, I suddenly had several warning lights as well as systems disabled within the vehicle. The first time this occurred I was about 2 hours into a drive, and suddenly my eyesight disabled, check engine light came on, cruise control disabled, lane departure disabled, collision warning and automatic braking disabled. After pulling over to inspect, I also realized my trunk would no longer open. I took it to a dealership who said it was due to low battery voltage—despite there being no spectacular incidents to drain the battery since I purchased the vehicle. They recharged the battery and the problem was temporarily fixed. However, once I retrieved my vehicle from the dealership the check engine light and disabled features were still prevalent. I once again had them recharge the battery—despite there again being no events causing the battery to drain—to which the problem was solved. Again, about an hour into my drive back home, the check engine light and features suddenly disabled. This is detrimental to my safety as a driver—as every safety feature suddenly disables without warning during my drive.

8 Warnings problem of the 2017 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 12/17/2020

Pulling into a parking spot at a low rate of speed (since I'd not driven quickly through the parking lot - too many backing up too quickly!). Sudden acceleration and rammed into brick wall of the building. My foot must of slipped, but it was fast. No collision deterrents activated at all, which was strange since this car will stop for an obstacle 1/2 a block ahead in low light. No buzzing, beeping, warning, or stopping. Was able to slam my foot on the brake, but still hit the wall. No air bags activated.
