1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

2008 wrx started to make a sqeeking noise when engaging the clutch. The spot welds came apart from firewall and my clutch has gone out twice. The pedal when shifting sticks and while driving I have to put the pedal under my foot and pull upwards for it to work. Very dangerous and the welds are faulty, it should be a recall items. Subaru can request for a inspection anytime as it is very much needed to be addressed.

Having same issue as most with 08 wrx . Firewall brackets have come loose and clutch will not actuate properly.

The failure mileage was 148,000. Cs.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2015

Head gasket prematurely leaking oil. Leak finds itself near exhaust. A little bit of research finds that this problem is very common up until 2010 and the introduction of the newest engine. An improved gasket is available, but replacement is very expensive. This is clearly a defective part and the affected cars should be recalled.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

As many others have noted regarding the Subaru Impreza wrx, the welds that connect the clutch to the firewall have been broken. Took it into a local dealer and he said that this was a common problem and that I would need to take it to an auto body shop.

7 Power Train problem

The contact owns a 2008 Subaru Impreza. While driving at various speeds, the clutch was difficult to engage. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the clutch well assembly that was attached to the firewall needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,800.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2013

Since I have purchased this vehicle brand new with only 85 miles on it. I have been having issues with the clutch being extra tight, and after a month or 2 the clutch kept making a squeaking noise. I have sent it to Subaru many times and they have always stated that the clutch is fine and they did not hear anything. I would like something to be done. . . It has cost me over 5,000. 00 to try and fix the problem over the course of 5 years and I still have the same issue as when I first purchased the car.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

This 2008 Subaru Impreza has been plagued as have many others by a manufacturer chassis defect. The firewall/bulkhead between the driver and engine has 5 spot welds broken which initially are meant to secure the clutch and brake assembly. These weld breaks are a serious safety issue as they are causing difficulty in engaging clutch and brakes, as well as a squeak noise every time the clutch is depressed. As this is not an insignificant wear item but part of the chassis/frame which is a dangerous defect as complete failure during operation of the vehicle can cause catastrophic accidents, further investigation and action on this matter should be taken by the NHTSA. This is certainly a recall issue.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

For several months now on my wife 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx when the clutch is depressed I have heard a cracking/squeaking noise. I brought it to a mechanic and he told me that he sees the firewall flexing when the clutch is beginning to engage. It looks as if the welds on the firewall are cracked and no matter what parts he changes it will not fix the problem that is why it is hard to get the car in gear and will eventually break completely. We looked online and this is a common problem with this car, dealerships are changing several parts and nothing will fix this safety issue. This is most definitely a manufacturer issue and should be recalled since it is a major safety concern.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

2008 wrx firewall welds are bad. Dealership wrote up "dangerous. Should not drive vehicle" and gave me an approximate price to fix it telling me they've never seen or heard about this before. Forums state this is an ongoing problem since 2008 and many people have attempted to spot weld it in place or have done non-ome fixes. Dealership told me basically corporate won't help because the car has 137,000 miles on it so its my problem. Car is too dangerous to drive or sell in this shape. I have called the dealership and complained about this problem starting 6 months after I purchased the car new and they always said the same thing "we have no known issues related to what your explaining". 6 years later and now its turned into a dangerous situation where clutch will go while driving.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

The weld that holds the bracket for the clutch and brake to the fire wall is cracked. This crack represents a possible safety issue if it should completely fail. Without the bracket being properly attached to the firewall, the brakes and clutch become inoperable. This is a known issue by Subaru and their lack of action shows a carelessness that is putting american consumers at risk. Thank you for your immediate assistance.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2013

I noticed about 3 months ago my clutch assembly starting to squeak and started to stick when fully depressed. The past month driving is almost impossible with having trouble starting the car and almost having to jam gears just to shift. Took it to transmission shop 2 days ago and they told me that my clutch is completely gone. After going to them they found out what the issue was. The firewall where the master cylinder sits is completely cracked 2 ways. With ignition off you can pressing the clutch is see the firewall completely flexing without the car even being on. They told me there is nothing that they can do and told me to get in contact with the manufacturer.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

The car began making a loud squealing noise when the clutch was depressed, it stalled out 5 times in 11 blocks, and it started to smell. I stopped at the nearest mechanic to my work and they were nice enough to let me leave it there for the day even though they do not do clutch work. After numerous discussions with Subaru service, they finally seemed to agree to work with me and investigate why this happened. At first, they seemed to want to disregard the problem because I am a woman and they really made it sound like I was to blame (ie, bad driving). I explained to them over and over that my other car is a 15 year old manual jetta with the original clutch, so the problem is not bad driving. After much back and forth, Subaru paid for the entire replacement of the clutch and throwout bearing, as well as some hydraulic hoses and even the tow to the dealer. In the end, I was happy with the end result, but I really think that Subaru needs to own up and admit that something is wrong with the 2008 Impreza clutch.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

I bought my car used, 38 months old and 33,000 miles, and noticed the clutch was very hard to press down. I thought since its a performance driven car, that's just the way it was. After driving for about 3000 miles I was shifting from 1st to 2nd and when I pressed in the clutch there was a loud pop. The throwout bearing seized and completely disabled the clutch assembly. I was told that the throwout bearing wasn't sliding all the way out so the clutch was always somewhat engaged and this is what caused the failure. They said everything needed to be replaced; throwout bearing, clutch plate, pressure plate, and flywheel.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

This car is a lemon. I previously owned 2 Subarus (both used), that I had virtually zero problems with, then bought this new from apple Subaru in york, PA. It has experienced problems before it even hit 50,000 miles. The tranny they replaced under warranty; but it took them 3 weeks to do so, and only completed job when they needed the loaner car back within 24 hours. Less than 6,000 miles later, on christmas eve, the clutch throw out bearing failed, I had to pay for towing to and from the dealership. They called on12/26, and informed me that it would not be covered under warranty ( even though they easily could have rushed the tranny job and caused this), that it was a "wear point. " when I heard $1700, asked to speak with the service mgr. , who inferred that I was ignorant, and hung up on me! I have never replaced a clutch in nearly 40 years of driving manual transmission autos. Motor now taps at 69,000 mi. ; needs replacement because one of the connecting rods is bent, and I am beginning to lose oil. Because of this, I am going to take a 50-75% reduction on the sale/trade value of this haunted vehicle. I am the third family member that Subaru has screwed, sure hope they treat their other loyal , decades-long customers better than they have treated us.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that after engaging and releasing the clutch, he heard a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the throw out bearing and clutch were defective and needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 49,000.
