The contact also stated while driving approximately 45 mph, there was a smell of fuel from the gas tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the wire that was attached to the fuel pump had a short and the caused the fuel pump to melt. The fuel pump, and the wiring harness was replaced.
