1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2022

The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle started smoking from the engine without warning. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as a oil consumption and cam carriers failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was also confirmed the failure was an oil consumption. The contact independently repaired the front timing seal gasket; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where the gas cap was replaced; however, the warning light returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a diagnostic and was informed that the timing cover, cam carrier, and O2 sensors needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they agreed to cover $1,000 for the repair of the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

Took 2012 Subaru Impreza to dealer on 2/07/22 for oil change and PA state inspections (60,130 mi). Maintenance and inspections performed without issues. Started car and noticed slight change in sound and vibration from engine that I attributed to cold winter day start up. A block from leaving dealership, the check engine, oil warning and vehicle dynamic control lights all illuminated at once. In the 2-3 minutes to turn around to go back to the dealership, the engine noise/vibration/roughness increased until the engine stalled with a sound like an air compressor shutting down. I brought the service rep out for him to try restarting the car but it barely turned/wouldn't start (despite new battery and having started fine previously that day). A service tech was brought out with an odbii scanner and found timing skip error codes and pushed the car in to a service stall to diagnose. I was then told that I need a new engine. The engine was replaced at no cost using Subaru part # soa402f500r1 remanufactured short block and associated internal component parts and returned to me on 2/19/22.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2020

Bought the car used 90k miles in 2017. It is now at 125,000 and the transmission has completely failed. The car is accelerating and reving even when decelerating. I took it to the mechanic and was told I need a total replacement. I drive less than 20 mi/wk with the occasional roadtrip. This car should have lasted for many years but, this problem is known given that Subaru has offered extended warranties in regards to this transmission failure.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2019

Cvt transmission failure, while vehicle was moving on highway.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

The Impreza consumes a lot of oil. Between 800-1200 miles im having to top it off. I have been having issues with it shutting off immediately after starting it in my driveway. I have had it in the shop several times with no ideas. No lights turn on to figure out what's going on. It's throwing no code either.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Subaru recall. I received safety recall about issue with engine valve springs on my car. I called the Subaru dealer and also walk in to the dealer. They refused to schedule the repair for me. Their reason was they didn't have the parts yet. They will put my car in the waiting list. That was almost 2 months ago and they never contacted me back. Whatever they reason they gave me, they failed to address their obligation. The Subaru dealer I contacted was michael's Subaru of bellevue. 888-418-0142.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

Earliest that Subaru santa fe retailer can address recall wty-84 "engine valve springs" is September 2019.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I sideswiped a parked car and the momentum caused my car to flip over and land on its roof. Have not heard from the adjuster but it is obvious the car is "totaled". Writing to you to let you know that I also wrote to Subaru to advise them that I think that the airbags should have deployed but none of them did. The accident occurred in union, n. J.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Gas pedal is ultrasensitive leading to surging at low speed. Hard to control vehicle at low speed maneuvering in parking lot. Dealer says this is normal. You will find many discussions on the web if you search for "Subaru sensitive gas pedal, a generally known issue. Find many discussions about "remapping" and jack-rabbit starts.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2014

While driving in normal circumstances, engine power cut out, and complete loss of throttle control occurred. The car could only accelerate extremely slowly, and not past 20-25 mph. Thankfully not on a high-speed road. Managed to get home (barely), car worked fine the next day. Dealer found obd code p0128, reprogrammed ecm to remove the code. The same problem had occurred ~1 year previously due to a faulty accelerator position sensor (NHTSA complaint recently filed). Dealer claims causes are unrelated. This can be a serious safety concern if it occurs on a highway, we no longer feel safe driving this car.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

11/30/2013 while I was driving I received a phone call on my iphone 4 at 9:35pm. The engine stopped but blower for heater, lights and radio remained functional. I pulled over coasted to a stop and restarted the vehicle. My phone was not connected via bluetooth to the vehicle. 1/24/2014 while I was waiting at a stop light (0 mph) at 7:45 am I unplugged a headphone cable from my iphone 4. The engine stopped but blower for heater, lights and radio remained functional. I restarted the vehicle. My phone was not connected via bluetooth to the vehicle.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

Oil light came on. Subaru manual says to change oil every 7,500 miles. They use synthetic oil which is more expensive. Had to find a dealer who added a quart of oil. Had the 15,000 mile service and light came on again at 18,000 and at 19,800. Both times oil was added. Subaru says this is normal. However, I don't feel I can make a trip of any extensive mileage safely. Especially when Subaru is putting in a synthetic oil that might be difficult to find.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

Followed too closely through a double intersection with a non-functioning light. Police officer directed traffic through the intersection but apparently we had to stop before the second intersection. Apparently I slowed down enough that the airbag did not deploy. I indicated 20 but surely my airbag would have deployed at that speed. Was able to drive the car under its own power off the road into a subway parking lot. As I was maneuvering into a parking spot the engine caught on fire. It seems strange to me that if I was going slow enough for the airbag not to deploy but for some components to catch on fire that the car is road worthy. Worth looking into?.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

Oil keeps running dry before next oil change. It has been requiring about 1 quart every 3,000 miles. This has the ability for the engine to run without oil and seize. This can cause drastic damage and injury along with greater wear. I have been mitigating it with keeping oil in the trunk but no guarantees that you will always have it. The oil also ruined my trunk.
