Subaru Impreza owners have reported 7 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Subaru Impreza based on all problems reported for the Impreza.
2019 Subaru Impreza has experienced intermittent and now persistent failures involving the factory eyesight driver assistance system. Prior to complete failure, the eyesight system would randomly disable and re-enable while driving. Adaptive cruise control and related safety features became unreliable and would intermittently stop functioning. The issue worsened over time and eventually resulted in repeated “eyesight off” warnings and multiple system fault messages. Vehicle diagnostic scans showed repeated u1235 “lost communication with eyesight” faults across multiple modules, including abs, steering, transmission, and instrument cluster systems. Additional communication and airbag indicator-related faults were also present. The windshield was recently replaced due to a crack located near the eyesight camera area. Subaru service personnel stated that eyesight systems are extremely sensitive to windshield specifications and calibration requirements, and that aftermarket windshields may prevent proper operation or calibration of the system. Subaru also indicated that eyesight calibration equipment is highly specialized and expensive, and that repair costs may not be practical relative to the vehicle value. Despite attempts to reset the vehicle systems and inspect the issue, the eyesight system continues to malfunction and remains disabled. Because eyesight controls important driver assistance and collision-avoidance features including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, this issue creates significant safety concerns. The intermittent nature of the failure, repeated communication faults, and inability to reliably restore system operation raise concerns regarding the long-term reliability and serviceability of Subaru eyesight systems.

Unnecessary braking in two instances. One happened when Subarus eyesight system mis identified a road reflector. At least that is what I saw. It happened on a 40 mile an hour highway in a curve with moderate traffic. No one directly behind me. The car had a sudden deceleration and warning. The second time came when approaching freeway speeds on an on ramp. At heavy acceleration approaching 50 miles per hour the car violently slammed on the brakes. A shadow from a tall fir tree crossed the on ramp. Again no one was behind me. It can't be good for my new car.

So far I went to herb gordon auto world in silver spring at least three times for the eyesight system that keeps malfunctioning and they said each time there's no codes and no sensor or system error light codes on. I called and talked to Subaru customer service three times and on the fourth time I was told to go to another Subaru dealer and have it looked at as a second opinion on the 16th of Aug I went to fitzgerald auto mall after I talked to the service advisor matt and found out that it had a code in it in the history po1894 which herb gordon auto world either didn't figure out how to find or was too incompetent to find it. According to matt at fitzgerald the code is a communication error from the transmission which is not a good thing to have on a brand new car. I guess mark was the specialist and kelly is his assistant. I also talked to erica on the 21st of August. Erica said the floater dawn was going to call me after she talks to fitzgerald Subaru about the code. I talked to kelly on the 21st. And than mark the same day. When I talk to matt who is supposed to be the head of this case #[xxx] he told me this places you win said they can't advise a fix so we're just going to wait until you have any more problems with it and then we could fix it then maybe so I said can you not find the source of the transmission communication problem he said well we would have to find a fix to it and we can't right now certificate can't fix it or find out the source where it's coming from we have nothing to do now with it unless you have more problems and I said if I'm on the beltway and the communication fails again will everything go off and then the car will stop now having an accident and possibly be killed so to that he stated well that's what insurance is for. This is all safety equipment because the lights come on at first that shows the eyesight error and all the red lights come on that say all the collision avoiding systems are not working information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),.

Car braked suddenly and violently while driving slowly (5-10 mph) in traffic. Foot was on the gas pressing lightly - not on the brake. Braking occurred independently with such force that I thought I had been hit by another vehicle going 30-40 mph. Hyman bros. Subaru has not yet returned my calls regarding this incident.
Who: daughter 16yo (driver), father (front passenger seat), daughter 14yo (driver side rear seat). Vehicle: 2020 Subaru Impreza what: Subaru anti-collision engaged unnecessarily when: 0704 est 14 may 2021 where: 41°43'07. 4"n 81°14'08. 3" my 16yo daughter was driving and I was in the passenger seat. We were heading east on e walnut street at approximately 35 mph about to cross the s state street intersection. There were no vehicles or obstructions in front of the vehicle. The Subaru anti-collision began to alert and abruptly stopped the vehicle. The vehicle behind us had to brake abruptly but did not hit us. I believe this was due to the sun being low on the horizon and directly in the camera's view. This is the fourth time the anti-collision has engaged unnecessarily. The events prior to this, I was driving less than 35 mph in moderate to heavy traffic and the vehicle in front of me was exiting the road causing the anti-collision braking to engage.

They were towing my car, and this vehicle only has one place to grab it, when the towing service was going to release my car this place to grab it broke and released, and ejected the car, if not for the handbrake it had happened a fatal accident, a car from 2018 that has these faults, I don't think so, now they must pay for the damages to the 2 vehicles, which is not what it should be because this is a factory damage I'm sure, I have videos, photos, everything, this was in colorado and it happened when I was going to leave my car at the dealer, it could happen in another place and it could attempt with someone's life.

While driving a multi lane road with traffic going same direction in front of me, if one or more cars begin to slow for a left or right turn, the auto braking feature begins to slow and will try to stop my car. Problem is that the car in front of me turning isn't in my lane. I have a clear lane ahead and suddenly the system brakes. Still locked onto the car in front, but doesn't recognize the clear road ahead and I can easily pass it on by. I've nearly been re ended because the guy behind me wasn't thinking I would suddenly brake for nothing. It happened with adaptive cruise control, and with that off, the auto braking system, or "accident avoidance" system. I have have more near misses driving this car than with any other car I've had without the system. This system is dangerous, it doesn't work like it was intended.
