I lease a 2018 Subaru Impreza, which currently has about 14,000 miles. Since January 2021, it's battery has failed multiple times. I have taken the car to the dealer (dunning Subaru in ann arbor, mi) and the service department has installed 4 new batteries. Their diagnosis has been that as long as I don't drive more often and farther (in these vague terms) my car's battery will continue to fail. The last time I took my car to get it fixed after it stranded me, on April 16, the dealership and Subaru of America's consumer advocate office both suggested that I purchase an off-market battery tender to recharge the battery. This means that they anticipate their car battery will fail with my current driving needs. In other words, the vehicle is unreliable. But from their perspective, I am at fault for not driving more.

Oem battery failed and left driver stranded in Nov 2020. Dealer replaced battery at that time. Dealer had to replace battery again today, 04/02/2021 because it was also failing. Dealer would not acknowledge that issue was with car. Simply stated that they would continue to replace failed batteries if within warranty period. Extremely dangerous. When battery fails, car is unresponsive to any/all commands.
After having the car 10 months battery kept dying. Subaru replaced the first battery with a new one exactly one year ago. That battery just died on Feb 8 after not being driven for 3 days. I needed to get it jump started. Subaru will not acknowledge this and told me to get a "second opinion. " this is a safety issue not a medical condition.

Vehicle has known defect where the oil control valves on front of engine fail and leak oil onto main wiring harness. The defect manifests itself in electrical shorts, lighting failure, engine not being able to be started, engine function failing while in use, battery failure due to short circuit created among other issues impacting starting, running, safe useage and potential dangerous failure while operating vehicle. Previous complaint logged, no evidence that problem is being investigated - although manufacturer has acknowleged knowledge of issue by issuing a service bulletin.

There are two separate issues with this vehicle which has not been resolved through dealers help and no recalls have been issued yet for these problems. First: the engine stalls around 16 to 11 mph. The acceleration slows down rapidly after 16-15mph then it ramps up at 13mph and then slows down around 11 mph speeds. This issue has been persistent since the ownership of the vehicle. Nhtsa needs to look into this problem since it can be a potential safety risk and can cause accidents. Second: the battery on this vehicle was dead suddenly over night without any visible clues. No map or dome lights were kept on. The vehicle was switched off properly and next morning the battery was dead. Somewhere in the vehicle (the suspect is infotainment system) the battery is draining. This has happened twice and had to change the batteries. These issues are huge safety hazards that needs to be address immediately.

Front overhead interior light would not turn off. It was at night, I was visiting, I called Subaru for help. Response ; call back tomorrow. I pried the plastic cover off and took out the bulb. Dealership response was leave it on, the next morning when the battery is dead, call our road side service and we will charge your battery.
