1 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/05/2014

While driving in normal circumstances, engine power cut out, and complete loss of throttle control occurred. The car could only accelerate extremely slowly, and not past 20-25 mph. Thankfully not on a high-speed road. Managed to get home (barely), car worked fine the next day. Dealer found obd code p0128, reprogrammed ecm to remove the code. The same problem had occurred ~1 year previously due to a faulty accelerator position sensor (NHTSA complaint recently filed). Dealer claims causes are unrelated. This can be a serious safety concern if it occurs on a highway, we no longer feel safe driving this car.

2 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated as the traction control independently disengaged while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer found certain spider species had crawled into the fuel system, creating a web that caused the engine light to illuminate and the traction control to fail. The fuel system was cleaned. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 3,200. . Updated 03/12/lj.

3 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

While driving in normal circumstances, engine power was lost, and complete loss of throttle control occurred. Car would accelerate extremely slowly, and not past 20-25 mph (presumably 'engine fail-safe mode'?). Thankfully not on a high-speed road. Obd code was p2138, indicating a faulty accelerator position sensor, which was replaced by dealer under warranty.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/14/2012

Exact to the Subaru recall issued in '09 (2002-2003 Impreza only), my 2005 Subaru Impreza wrx smells terribly of gas on cold morning when I start the vehicle. The smell is so bad that I cannot sit in the car without feeling faint if I do not roll the windows down, and cannot have any passengers in the car at startup until the car is warm and driven around the block for five minutes, which is the worst considering the cold winters I face in connecticut. This smell occurs upon starting the vehicle and letting it idle for about after a minute, but about after five-ten minutes of driving the smell finally goes away. I am aware of the issue with earlier year models, but am surprised at the fact that there is a grand amount of people with the same exact issue with 2004 and up Imprezas as well, and a recall hasn't been issued yet (and my local Subaru told me that I would have to pay full price for this repair which might take two days and cost around 500$ and up. . Wow!). This only occurs when it it below zero, but for me that is quite common during winter. I have seen numerous reports online that people with my year have called Subaru of America, and that they had paid for the car to get repaired as if it was a recall type of procedure, but personally called them today and was told by the rep that there were no such reported cases with Subaru of America. . . Sure! quite disappointing, but most of all dangerous, and I dread driving the car and putting myself and others in danger. I was told by a tech at Subaru that if there was any sort of ignition or spark around this area for any malfunctioning reason, or an accident, that there would be a good chance that the car might ignite. Help me out here, I know I am not the only one with this issue with this year and model Subaru.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Code p1410 secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open. This is a common error many 2006 and up Subaru Impreza wrx owners are having. The emissions system is prone to fail due to carbon buildup or moisture and rust contaminating valves, leading to repairs costing $700 to $1500. This failure is common even with low mileage. Note these codes are also associated with this failure: 06/07 wrx: p0410 p0411 p0413 p0414 p0416 p0417 p0418 p2431 p2432 p2433 p2440 p2441 p2442 p2443 p2444 07 sti: p0410 p0411 p0413 p0414 p0418 p2431 p2432 p2433 p2441 p2444.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

Odor of fuel in the interior of my 2002 Subaru wrx Impreza I contact Subaru and advised them of this via their 800 complaint number and referred to campaign 09v-468 and NHTSA action #ea09011. I was told I could take the vehicle into my local Subaru dealer at my own costs and get the vehicle repaired! I advised them that the campaign states my vehicle is covered for additional 12 years the problem and it fell on deaf ears. What can I do?.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/24/2009

When the weather is mildly cold, and it is approximately 50 degrees or less, and the vehicle sits parked for at least 4-5 hours, typically overnight and/or in a garage, there is a very strong smell of fuel when the vehicle is started. The smell dissipates after a few minutes and will not return unless the car sits parked for at least 4-5 hours overnight and/or in a garage.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/20/2009

Subaru recently issued a recall, (recall no. Wvk-21), for leaking fuel in '02-'03 wrx's. As stated, only some vehicles are covered. I called the Subaru phone # to check eligibility, and was told that my car is not covered under this recall, but that I should have a dealer fix it, at my own cost, ASAP, because leaking fuel is dangerous. Well at least the Subaru rep admitted it, if so won't as a company. I would like to file a formal complaint to extend this recall to all 02-03 wrx's. The leak is bad enough that I see raw fuel dripping onto the pavement below my car, that alone is a horrendous safety risk, as well as a major source of pollution. There is no possible way this vehicle would pass any emissions test with the amount of unburned hydrocarbon escaping. As it is now, the vehicle is undriveable if the ambient temperature is below zero, it simply leaks too much fuel to even be in the passenger compartment without an instant headache.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/11/2009

I recently bought an 02 Subaru and it seems that every time I cold start the car when it gets below freezing outside there is a horrid gas smell in the cabin of the car. On further investigation it is visible that there is a pool of gas accumulating on the motor from underneath the intake manifold. I have just noticed this and called the dealer and they said they had never heard of this. Looking online it seems to be a regular issue and there is no recall or information on how dangerous it is to have raw fuel on a hot engine. I am at a loss and a little concerned for my safety.

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/16/2009

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

2003 Subaru Impreza sport wagon. In cold weather, strong smell of raw gasoline fills the passenger compartment. It sickens my children.

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/21/2008

My Subaru 2202 wrx has a strong smell of gas in the passenger compartment everytime it is cold out. They have a TSB to fix the issue but will not cover the repairs in all cases. The TSB is 09-36-03. I would think they would care about a manufacturer defect that involves fuel. This should have been recalled.

15 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

I noticed a fuel odor in the cabin and traced it to the engine compartment. Upon inspection I noted fuel pooling on the engine heads. I removed it with a paper towel for further inspection and verified it was still flammable. I spoke to the dealer about the issue and they said that happens when it gets below zero outside. The problem has caused me to have to pull over while driving because of feeling light headed multiple times, and my wife has passed out due to the odor while riding in the car and sustained a minor head injury as a result. It occurs on a daily basis when the temp. Is below 20 degrees f or so. I have to open the windows while driving to vent the fumes which causes a hazardous condition while driving in inclement weather.

16 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

Today's date is December 06, 2008. I started to smell a foul gas smell inside my cabin a few days ago. The smell has occurred since then. What seems to trigger the smell of gas is the cold start ups in temperature degrees of low 20's and below. The smell is extreme. It's enough to make sitting driving almost unbearable, my passengers, along with me get headaches. I am forced to open the windows in freezing weather to allow the gas smell to exit. The smell goes away after opening windows and/or 10 or more minutes of vehicle operation. I have only searched for help from the nasioc online community. It is a community of thousands of Subaru owners who as well have reported hundred of cases of the same gas smell.

17 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/29/2008

18 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

During the past several years my 2002 Subaru Impreza wrx has had the strong smell of fuel. Its not consistent nor does it happen all the time but often enough that it concerns me. I have called Subaru's headquarters about this problem and they just keep telling me there is no re-call for this problem, so they won't fix it. I'm concerned this is a real safety problem that Subaru refuses to address nor fix.

19 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

I was driving down a main road in boston when my engine caught on fire. As a result I ended up crashing into a snow bank. When I reported this to the dealership they said that they would look at the problem and fix it. When the car was inspected it was found to have aftermarket parts that are not d. O. T. Legal and no c. A. R. B. Id's. All of these modifications were installed prior of me buying this vehicle and it was sold to me with a warrenty. I had complained about a smell of gas and a huge loss of oil before this happened but was told that is how a Subaru Impreza wrx sti runs. Also the dealership got a emmisions sticker for this car when it will not pass emissions with all of the afterarket parts. Nothing has been done to fix this problem and the dealership refuses to take any responsibility for this event.

20 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/09/2007

My 2002 Subaru has gas fumes in the cabin whenever the weather is cold. The colder the weather the stronger the fumes. Subaru is aware of the issue, the have a bulletin on this very issue, however the dealer refuses to cover this issue. Over the phone the service manager was confident that Subaru would not cover this issue. He informed me that it was just fumes leaking. Knowing a little about how gasoline is ignited, I know that the fumes are what combustion, and that is what I am concerned about. If Subaru is so concerned about safety, one would thing that explosive fumes would be on their list. However both Subaru of America, and Subaru of annapolis did nothing to reassure me that this would be covered. When I called Subaru of America again, they told me to contact another dealer and see what they would do. This is the last Subaru I will every buy!.

26 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/10/2006

The contact owns a 2003 Subaru Impreza. In freezing weather conditions, the contact could smell a strong odor of gasoline. The odor was so strong as if someone doused the vehicle in gasoline. She was unable to determine the origin of the odor, but the vehicle could not be driven because of the intense smell. The dealer stated that there were no recalls; therefore, they could not assist with the repairs. The failure mileage was 37,654 and current mileage was 55,000. 4/01/09 the consumer husband found gas leaking onto the engine. 27 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/05/2005

This is a complaint towards Subaru of America (soa). This is the third year that I have experienced fuel fumes in the cabin of my vehicle. Please review the forums on this online. This cannot go on , we have to leave our garage door open to dispell the fumes, its a fire hazard. Soa will not accept any responsibility for this vehicle fuel system defect. It needs to be on a safety recall. This has happened every year when the temperature reaches below freezing. I took the vehicle too the local dealership and they wanted $$$ to correct the defect (approx $500).

28 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

My 2004 Subaru wrx sti has a fuel odor in the cabin when the car is started in moderately cool temperatures. The problem is described in odi resume pe 04-002. The manufacturer says the problem occurs in very cold temperatures and stops quickly. I have found that it occurs in moderate temps. Below 50f and lasts for 20 to thirty minutes. I take this to mean that the problem is worsening and could result in ignition of the leaking fuel. This problem occurs in several models of Subaru according to my internet research. The manufacturer has a service bulletin #09-36-03 that describes how to fix the problem but the cost would have to be paid by me. I believe this to be a serious design flaw and that the manufacturer should be required to fix it under a recall.

29 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/25/2005

Upon start up and driving in cold weather a strong fuel smell emitted from the vehicle. The owner has contacted the dealer and the manufacturer and was told that this is common. Provide further details.

Failure Date: 01/19/2005

I drive a 2002 Subaru Impreza wrx manufactured in Feb 2001. I have owned the vehicle for 3 months. I noticed the failure during the first day the temperature dropped below freezing. The failure is described as a very strong scent of noxious fuel into the passenger cabin of the vehicle. The scent is present when the vehicle is started with a cold engine and the outside temperature is below freezing. The scent dissipates after 5 minutes of running the engine. This occurs every time these conditions are present which can be multiple times daily. The consequences to date have simply been discomfort but I am concerned that long term exposure may have lasting damage to my and my passengers lungs and eyes. . Read more...

31 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

34 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/01/2004

In the first winter after purchasing my 2002 Subaru Impreza wrx, there was a strong smell of gasoline in the passenger cabin as well as around the car. The problem persisted in the following years particularly during cold winter days, however dealerships were not able to replicate the problem. One dealership attempted to replace the fuel filter and spray "deodorant" into the vents to help, but the strong smell of gasoline persisted on cold days, particularly when we wanted to turn the heat on. The smell of gasoline is not only nauseating, but most likely very harmful to myself and my family. On occasion, it is impossible to drive the car with the heat on and consequently we need to drive with the windows down, in the cold, with the heat off. Nm.

35 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Subaru Impreza
