I own a 2019 Subaru Legacy. I am very shocked that I have experienced three major windshield cracks within only 18 months of purchasing the vehicle. The first one was only 5 months after I bought the car (02/07/20), the 2nd time was 7 months later (9/17/20), and the 3rd time was on may 1st, 2021. The cracks came out of nowhere; once while driving on a light traffic street, once while on the highway, and once while the car was parked. Replacing the windshield for the Subaru is very expensive! the company refuses to cover the cost. I had to pay $500 deductible, while my insurance paid over $300+. I have driven different types of cars for more than 40 years, such as hondas, chevys, volvos, and fords, and not one of those vehicles ever had a windshield crack. This is the first time I have ever owned a Subaru and cannot believe the nightmare/expense in dealing with this problem within such a short period of time. I am convinced there is a defect either within the area of the frame of the car that holds the windshield or the glass is very poor quality, or both. It is not fair that Subaru is misleading customers into believing that their vehicles are some of the safest in the car industry. I hope enough Subaru owners who are dealing with the same problem are coming forward. Above all, I hope something is done to resolve this terrible problem soon.

On January 7, 2020 at approximately 8am, I was driving my car which had been warmed up and driving for approximately 15-20 minutes when my windshield spontaneously cracked on the drivers side about 8 inches off center. There was no vehicle in front of me at the time and no visible or audible debris that could have struck the windshield. The crack was about 8 inches long and ran vertically up the windshield. Further inspection showed that the crack appears to have started below the windshield wiper where the glass meets the plastic, a location which would make it nearly impossible for any debris to make contact with the windshield. The crack has now spread to about 14 inches long and now running diagonally towards the passenger side. Weather was about 30 and sunny.

Spontaneous breaking of front windshield. I parked the car in the garage and the next morning there was a crack in the shape of an uppercase t approximately 7"x7". No extreme heat or cold involved. There appears to be a pinhead size dent possibly from a rock. The car has only 14k miles.
A horizontal crack developed after having this vehicle for less than six months. Just noticed it when getting into the car one morning. The crack was completely horizontal and parallel to the windshield frame (see photo). It has since developed a vertical crooked line. I could not see any impact chips but the dealer blamed it on that.

The windshield spontaneously cracked. The vehicle was not in operation. It was parked with no passenger.
While traveling on the interstate, the passenger side of the front windshield became damaged from unknown reasons after experiencing a slight dip in the road. A crack formed and expanded to over 12 inches in length quickly. Attached photo 20200829_164645 included as evidence. This is the second time this vehicle has experienced front windshield damage. It was replaced a little over a year ago with oem parts (carlex glass) through my insurance. Attached photo screenshot_202. . . As evidence. That incident occurred while driving on a highway and road debris struck the passenger edge of the front windshield. A crack formed and spread to the middle of the windshield. Due to having eyesight technology the front windshield is imperative to safety operations and needs to remain free from defects, since it can control a vehicle's acceleration, braking, and steering control system. I believe that the front windshield glass being used by Subaru (carlex glass) is substandard and creating a dangerous condition for drivers who utilize this technology. If a windshield replacement is needed, recalibration of eyesight technology is required to ensure safety compliance. This additional procedure can dissuade owners due to time and cost; thereby, creating an additional safety predicament by having drivers operate imperfect vehicles. Research has indicated similar complaints from various individuals and multiple Subaru models over a span of years. I implore you to investigate immediately!.

The windshield had a crack on the left bottom corner of the driver's side but no explained reason. There was no audible sound that led to the crack. I had to pay $500 to get the windshield replaced and the eyesight calibrated. Noticed the cracked windshield when the vehicle was parked at home.
2020 Subaru Legacy xt windshield cracking on it own went to dealership and they refused to warranty the defective windshield I heard a pop one evening and could not not find the reason why while returning home I woke up the following morning to find a huge crack below my eyesight technology! severe safety hazard to the eyesight technology.
Went into phone store and when I came out the windshield had cracked for no apparent reason. It was parked outside, no traffic or anything else.
My Legacy was 4 months old, when a spontaneous crack appeared in the windshield. The crack is thinner than a human hair. It's not round like, the common rock chip. Just a very, very fine crack.
Was driving car along interstate at 75 mph around 6 pm. Heard a pop on the windshield and soon after about a 6 inch crack appeared sideways just above the driver side wiper.

I have had 3 broken windshields on my 2017 Subaru Legacy in the 20 months that I have owned the vehicle. When it happened this past time I realized this is not just "bad luck" on my part. I started researching the issue online and found that Subaru has a class action lawsuit against them for 2015 and 2016. I believe the 2017 model is also an issue but that model year has yet to be included in the lawsuit. What I have also found online from various automotive websites is that Subaru Legacy and outback owners are experiencing broken windshields from the smallest debris hitting the windshield. If the smallest piece of debris is causing a crack in the windshield what can a consumer expect to happen if there was a full collision? I'm not sure if this is a design flaw in the automobile or faulty glass, or maybe both. I spoke with my state farm representative and he indicated he never heard of a new passenger vehicle having 3 broken windshields in a span of less than two years. If you need any other information from me, please let me know. I would be more than happy to help. Thank you.
I have had issues with my Subaru windshield where I have had to get the windshield replaced multiple times in a short time span. Within the last year, I've had to replaced the windshield twice already(21jul2017 and 11may2018). After getting the car back last Friday (may 11th, 2018) after getting the second replacement, I got another crack/chip while driving home from work under normal driving conditions. I fear that this latest crack may spread and will force me to replace the windshield for a third time. I don't feel that the windshields are strong enough to protect against slight impacts and my children no longer feel safe in the vehicle after seeing the windshield crack so many times in the last year.
In the less than two years I have owned my vehicle, I have had to replace the windshield once (when it was less than a year old) and repaired cracks 3 times, the latest being today. All damages were done by gravel picked off the road, and not in construction zones. Not only have I never had any problems with my previous vehicle driving down the same roads, in the same state of repair, but neither have my parents in 20+ years of driving 5 different makes/models on the same roads. Not only is the windshield ridiculously fragile, since I have the 'eyesight' safety feature, I was told that I could not replace the windshield with an oem/generic windshield. I would have to replace the flimsy windshield with another flimsy Subaru windshield. If I did not, not only would they not guarantee that the safety feature I paid over $1500 additional for would work, but they wouldn't even attempt to calibrate it should it be needed. I have seen other complaints about Subaru windshields, so this is obviously a known issue. Subaru should work on reinforcing their windshields at the very least, especially if they are forcing people to buy them. This should also be information given to prospective buyers.
Windsheild- the materials used for the windshield in this vehicle are substandard. I leased the vehicle on 4/18/2017 and it is now 10/24/2017 and my windsheild has cracked twice. The first time it cracked I had it replaced right away. This time I decided to wait a week or so to see if it would continue to have issues the windshield has now cracked in three different places. I have not changed my driving habits and my previous vehicles have never had this issue. I did some online research and spoke to some other Subaru owners and this is a known issue with newer outbacks and Legacy models. It is unacceptable for Subaru to sell these obviously faulty windshields to the public I have made complaints to the Subaru dealer and I just get the response that there is nothing they can do except replace the windshield at full retail cost.
Replacing the windshield 3 times already in a 2 year period. No chips are created from small interactions with object like little stones but immediate cracks. The vehicle was in stationary and moving positions on a street and higway. Makes me wonder what is going to happen if there would be more serious collision than just a small rock.

Windshield cracks from edges. No noticeable chips. Crack started with rock hits. Possible defective glass.
Within a month of buying a brand new Subaru Legacy 2015, my windshield spontaneous cracked while driving on an open-air interstate away from other cars. At first I thought maybe a pebble hit the windshield, but upon later inspection I could not find a distinct starting point for the crack in the windshield crack (no dents or places where something might have hit my car). The crack initiated from the very bottom of the middle of the windshield and extended about 6-8 inches from the bottom of the windshield.
The 2005 suburu suddenly stops no matter weather going 35 mph or 70mph without warning! later the engine warning flashes, then the cruise control flashes, after abt. 20 seconds it starts, but stops intermittendly w/o warning. Life/death risk. Just bought it 5 mos. Ago. The turbo malfunctions--cracks.
