1 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 2003 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Broke tailgate window. Glass shop indicated dealer-only item. Dealer indicated no replacement windows existed in the united states. Dealer also indicated they already had another similar vehicle in their shop that had already been waiting 3 weeks for a window, and they had no idea when one would come in. Vehicle was less than 5 years old at time of incident. Forced to get used tailgate/window from junkyard. No new replacement windows existed in the united states, even though the window was the same on both Legacy wagons (like mine) and outback wagons, and was the same for at least several model years. In addition, the vehicle was even built in the u. S. Window itself was not defective - problem was no available replacement parts.

2 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 1997 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/15/2000

1) all 4 rims have a tendency to collect road silt and water inside. This imbalances the car and may explain some of the brake problems. Perhaps airflow under the vehicle should be studied. 2) pads and springs located on frame where the rear gate closes against the body are rusted tight. 3) dash lights for hvac have failed at about 30,000 miles. 4) gas gauge does not descend accuratly.
