Spontaneous windshield crack while driving.
My 2020 Subaru is 9 months old and this will be the 2nd windshield I will be replacing in the car. The first time the car was in motion but not struck by debris. The second time there was debris that hit the windshield and the crack moved quickly across the windshield without stopping. There was a class action suit about the faulty windshields with many Subaru owners involved and recently the suit was dismissed by the court. I understand Outbacks and foresters have defective windshields going back as far as 2016 and Subaru has not addressed the problem. I have been told the windshield is thinner than most to accommodate the sensors. The cost to replace a windshield is $900+ each time due to the need for only a Subaru windshield and the calibration of the sensors needed.
Windshield chips/cracks with no known cause.
While driving a rock. . Not a large one, cracked my windshield which ultimately progressed through out the windshield. One other time a similar situation occurred when a small rock hit the windshield causing damage to it. I also had a rock hit the passenger side on the second row window which completely shattered it. The car was in motion for the windshield on a divided highway occurence but stationary on a city street with passenger window damage.

We bought our 2019 Subaru Outback in may, 2019. Before we had 1000 miles, a rock hit the windshield and cracked it. First replacement/recalibration. The vehicle was sitting in the garage in February 2020 when I noticed a crack across the windshield. A second replacement/recalibration. This morning (8/24/2020) when I got in my car in the parking lot to return home from MD va I noticed my third cracked windshield. I will be replacing it soon. I have comprehensive coverage through geico, so I have no out-of-pocket expenses, but I believe that something must be lacking in the design or quality of the windshield to have it crack three times in 15 months.
Windshield cracked on its own (clearly no point of impact). Started at the base of the windshield, about 3 inches to the right (passanger) side of the midline. Propagated throuhgout the whole windshield and needed to be replaced.
Windshield cracked while driving in a highway with little to no reason of physical impact from outside. It started as a 2 inch line crack that grow to almost a foot while driving. Evidence available upon request such as dashcam videos and photos.
Front windshield is cracked in same location, two separate events, over a period of 4 weeks. Each time the crack appears to originate in the top center of the windshield and then the crack migrates to the center of the windshield.
While driving along route 81 south of carlisle PA. An audible pop was heard. I noted nothing at the time. Later in the day, this 2 foot crack appeared in the windshield. I don't believe the crack is the result of an object as there is no apparent point of impact and only the the very small area adjoining the frame is at all disturbed aside from the obvious clean crack.
July 2, 2020: the front windshield cracked seemingly without cause while driving on the interstate. After stopping, it appeared to have a tiny chip near the rear-view mirror and a crack about 3 feet long extending from it. This windshield was replaced on July 8, 2020. July 19, 2020: the new windshield received a tiny rock chip while driving. The rock chip was less than 1 inch in size so a repair was to be attempted. The repair was unsuccessful as the rock chip immediately spread when suction was applied to the surface.
I purchased my Outback in April of 2019. While I was driving on a highway, my Outback's windshield cracked in June of 2019 and my local Subaru dealership replaced the windshield during the summer of 2019. Then while I was driving on a highway in July of 2019 the windshield of my 2019 Outback cracked again. Subaru Outback's replacement windshields are no better than the original windshields. They are defect as well. My 2019 Subaru Outback's windshield has cracked twice in an 14-month period.
Driving on highway and windshield spontaneously cracked 3 inches. No impact from rock. Haven't driven since and it's now cracked halfway across the windshield. Definitely a defect.
Had a rock hit the windshield when a light turned green. Chip turned into a crack by the next morning and within a few days crack spread across the entire windshield horizontally.
Windshield cracking while driving down interstate 80.
The car windshield suddenly cracked on its own without any external or internal impact while parked. The crack started from the top on passenger side and extended vertically to the middle of the windshield. This crack impaired the ability of the eyesight driver assistance system to function properly causing the vehicle to lose safety critical features like forward collision avoidance and lane keep assist.
Had new 2020 ouback less than 3 weeks and noted hairline stress crack (no chips) on outside laminate of windshield, near passenger side camera, 3. 25 inches long. I was washing the windshield in my driveway when I noticed the crack. There are previous reports of defective windshield glass with this model. Photo attached.
The windshield is cracked. I went out to my car on may 16 and on the front windshield there was a "y" shaped crack going up from the bottom middle of the windshield. When I went back outside on may 18, the crack had spread about 4 inches toward each side of the windshield. On may 21, the crack had spread more and is curving around. The car was parked in my driveway when all of this happened.
While parked indoors a front windshield crack first appeared on lower drivers side of windshield. No sign of being struck by projectile.
Windshield has cracked for no apparent significant reason. This was noticed in the morning upon getting in the vehicle and starting to drive.
We purchased a 2020 Outback limited 4/28/2020. The salesman, al stevens, delivered the car to our home on 5/1/2020. The second time we drove the vehicle, 5/6/2020, a crack suddenly appeared on the lower passenger side of the front windshield as we were driving on an interstate highway. (my husband is an atk amputee and wanted to practice driving the car with his prosthetic leg before driving 30+ miles to a doctor appointment. ) there was no apparent reason for the crack as there were no automobiles around us. We already had an appt to return the car to the dealer that week to install options we had purchased at sale. At that time we learned the windshield was not part of the warranty agreement we had signed and the finance agent in no way encouraged us to sign that portion of the agreement. Nor did he inform us of the high cost of windshield replacement and electronics re-calibration. We paid $1143. 34 to replace the front windshield and re-calibrate the electronics. Our insurance was a $1000 deductible would would not allow filings from dealerships as they are not approved repair sites. At that time we also paid an additional $500 to purchase the windshield warranty.
Windshield crack under wipers on passenger side. Car was parked in driveway for 2 days. Under stay in place orders. 2 cracks about 1 inch apart, no sign of impact. Crack became a long line into the driver view. While driving for 1/2 mile. Called Subaru and mentioned that nothing hit car. They said no problems with windshields have been recorded.
Windshield cracked in the lower drivers side corner. The windshield cracked due to unknown reasons and blind spot warning stopped working for no reason.

Purchased vehicle Dec 2019. Had first windshield replaced at our cost on April 29, 2020. Had chip in this windshield fixed at our cost on July 9. 2020. In October 2020, replaced windshield cracked starting on driver's side for no reason while on a main highway.
The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. The windshield the spider web cracked across windshield.
Windshield spontaneously cracked. Subaru replaced under warranty and about 5 months later the replacement also spontaneously cracked. Subaru has claimed "outside influence" caused the replacement to crack and has decline to replace again under warranty. Both times the cracking happened during a snowfall while parked in the driveway.
Windshield spontaneously cracked while parked overnight on the driveway.
18" long windshield crack appeared on the passenger side about 6" from the bottom. I was driving on the highway and it may have cracked when or if pebble hit it. A lot of bugs died on my windshield that morning too so I had to use my windshield wipers and washer fluid. I did not notice a crack because it was way too dark in the morning to see anything. I noticed the crack at 1pm in the parking lot at work getting ready to go home.
Sunroof exploded with a fair size hole in it! also, the windshield glass has cracked lines in it. Stated with a small stone ding and now has expended to a crack line hald way across the windshield. To me, Subaru has a glass issue with my 2017 Subaru Outback. The auto has all of the safety features, so replacing the windshield is not cheap, due to the sensor cameras. The roof blow out happened while driving it. Also, the small stone ding occurred while driving it as well. All occurred while driving the Subaru on city streets. Subaru did replace the sunroof at no cost; the Outback was still under warranty. The windshield started to crack shortly after having safe lite repair the ding. That occurred about 6 months ago.
I bought a certified Subaru Outback 2019 in February 2020 with 4500 odometers reading. While I was driving my car on the highway on March 15, 2020, a tiny stone hit on my windshield and cracked my windshield. I replaced it on June 17, 2020 which cost me $960.
Wind shield is cracked after sitting in garage for 2 days.
