Key gets stuck on ignition switch when I turn car off and put it in park. Key will not release from the steering column. It takes several minutes, some times up to 20 minutes for the key to release from the column. Vehicle needs to be started and turned off several times before key releases. This has been happening for a few weeks now, very frustrating and dangerous as having to start and stop the vehicle has drained the battery twice now and I have had to get the vehicle jump started. Hopefully this does not happen in the middle of no where. . . . .

Driving down straight stretch of freeway on the inside lane at 65-70mph in wet but satisfactory condition, my vehicle suddenly veered violently to the left resulting in collision with central island. No prior warning. Vehicle is very good condition and mechanically sound. Although the left front tire was damaged and deflated, it didn't disintegrate as I would have expected if it had burst at high speed. I have experienced blowout tire punctures in the past and it didn't feel like that. There was a steering column recall for 2016/17 Outbacks which my vehicle was not a part of. Could this be an underlying steering issue?.

Ignition key becomes locked in the steering column when the car is turned off. Many times when I turn the car off the keys become stuck in the steering column. It is necessary to turn the car off and on and sometimes even move the car and park a 2nd or 3rd time before the keys can be removed from the column. Its helps to turn the car off quickly and then remove the keys�even then you can feel the keys wanting to stick.

Our 2013 Subaru Outback was two years old when the tilt steering feature would not stay locked into place. The steering column for the tilt steering would not stay locked and the steering wheel would drop while the car was in motion. The car was taken to the dealership for repair where we were told that internal locking mechanism had broken and the entire steering column needed to be replaced. Which it was replaced and had held in place. In March of 2018 the tilt steering would once again not stay locked into place causing the steering wheel to drop while in motion. It was taken back to the same dealership, where we were told the same exact thing had happened again and would require the entire steering column to be replaced. The biggest concern here is safety. The steering column dropping while the car is moving puts the driver and anyone else on the road at risk. We were never provided a plausible explanation as to why this happened to the car not once but twice. The explanation given for the reoccurring problem was �normal wear and tear from using the tilt feature too much. � we have had other Subaru Outbacks with the tilt steering feature and have not experienced any problem with the steering wheel not locking into place.

Battery dies if car is not driven weekly. Steering column replaced twice and steering rack once.
In motion. On country road. There is a gap in the steering wheel column where I got my finger caught while turning right. Very sharp pain while returning the wheel to straight. Had to more the wheel right again to remove my finger. Could have caused serious problem. I was now on a straight section of road and ended up on right shoulder as I turned the wheel to extricate my finger. I suppose one could lose part of finger or cause an accident.
Subaru Outback vibrates in steering wheel and seats at speeds from 60 to above. There is a service bulletin which states the steering column and steering wheel gets replaced. Have not found any information that this rectifies the issue or that it makes the car any more safe or pleasant to drive. Postings suggest that this repair does not improve the issue.

I have owned over 20+ cars ranging from 4runners, s2000, to lancer evo. My 2013 Outback is by far the hardest car to steer on the highway. It wanders to both directions at highway speeds and its difficult to correct it back to center. Some owners have been accused of driving drunk in a outack, Subaru needs to fix this before loosing your most loyal owners! many 2012 2013 Outback owners have been calling this issue stiff, heavy, hard, not return to center steering. Followup to NHTSA id number: 10525592 the effected lot number is 0423sd (year 2010, April 23, location sd) this is different from the original effected location of 9x13a or earlier (oct 13, 2009, location a and earlier). Exhibits the same symptoms. Original complaint: vehicle paddle shifter function, cruise control, horn control are intermittent and vol up and mute radio functions do not work on the steering column. This is very similar to NHTSA campaign number 10v283000. I will have the dealer provide the steering roll connector lot number to determine if my VIN has an older steering column on tues. My VIN is outside of the effected range of a*310001 to a*377827.

My VIN is outside of the effected range of a*310001 to a*377827.
The contact owns a 2011 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph the steering wheel would shake and vibrate. The vehicle would also respond late to turns in the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the steering column and various suspension components were replaced. The failures continued. The failure mileage was 3,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the steering column, brakes, tires, lower control arms and a tire alignment was performed. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 8,022 and current mileage was 23,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Subaru Outback. While driving various speeds, the steering abnormally reverts to the right as if the steering column is locked. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure and provide a remedy. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 99,500.
